wax,

Dude, steam ships with a bunch of libraries enabling cross distro support. It ain’t that complicated gitlab.steamos.cloud/…/container-runtime.md

wax,

The air cooler market is very competitive right now. Noctua has great customer support and quality, as always, but there are better value options.

I would pick Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE, or alternatively the Peerless Assassin 120 SE

wax,

Both. One downside seems to be the required pressure necessary when mounting. Noise normalized performance and overall value is great though. The phantom spirit is a slightly upgraded version with one more heat pipe compared to PA120SE

wax,

I’ve personally used webp for when I need lossy compression with alpha channel. What good alternatives are there? Png is not lossy and jpeg does not support alpha. Is JXL better than WebP? AVIF? JPEG2000?

wax,

I’ve been meaning to get one to use as a fixed email, even if I change the underlying email provider. Not able to select a domain name though ¯_(ツ)_/¯ naming is always the hardest part

wax,

What about Nokia 8010 or RockTek G2? Been looking at one of these as a jellyfin client, but also retain the possibility of using streaming apps. Otherwise I’d probably throw kodi on a intel N100 based box (some of these can be had fairly cheap)

wax,

Are you streaming cabled or wireless from your desktop? How is the latency?

wax,

Ok, cheers, got the impression from some other posters that the latency was unbearable :-)

wax,

It’s a fairly simple application, no?

wax,
  • Fallout 2
  • Baldurs Gate 2
  • World of Warcraft (perhaps a bit of sunk cost fallacy)
wax,

Hold the phone, better than streaming from a local beefy desktop?

wax, (edited )

Ah, shit. I guess streaming might work a bit better cabled though. Good thing it manages locally

wax,

Hmm pretty heavy compared to my 4a, 143g vs 187g.

wax, (edited )

I dont get it to be honest. The plastic back on the 4a is perfectly fine. I have a cover anyway, who cares how it looks. I don’t think it’s more durable either? Why are plastic ones getting heavier though?

wax,

I think it was a mistake to remove hardware video encoding. Even the hw encoder for H264 1080p 30fps was better than no encoder. Apparently they think sw encoding can replace it…yeah… the cpu is more powerful, but not that much more. I think intels N100 processors will be more competitive for applications involving video/webcam

wax,

Any mod packs or whatever to recommend? Played it once when it came out using a sneak + bow build (didn’t know it was OP when I started though). Haven’t checked out rhe DLC or anything, so I want to revisit it once I upgrade my potato rig later this year

wax,

Looks like Benicio Del Toro with a fake beard

wax,

Eh, not my impression at all

wax,

Let’s boycott it until October 1st, that’ll show them! /s

Do you pirate? And do you justify pirating? i.e., what is your piracy philosophy?

Well, my friend, he’s kinda poor he can’t afford some books and some streaming services, so he pirates. He pirate books, audiobook and videos and other stuff. Sometimes he buys books he likes a lot out of loyalty to the author (yeah, I don’t understand it either), he likes to read physical books, but yeah, if he hates the...

wax,

Trying to find something to watch on Netflix was exhausting. Basically looking up every show on the mobile for imdb rating / rotten score etc to see if its worthwhile. I don’t watch that much TV, so I’m not going to binge any crappy show or movie

wax,

Man, what an echo chamber of anti-corporation and anti-copyright sentiments. I pirate myself, because the services for tv/movies are not convenient, but I don’t delude myself into thinking it’s somehow justified. If I could get any movie or series on demand like spotify I wouldn’t pirate (if I could afford it). I fail to see how anything else would be ethical to the creators of the content.

wax,

Good point on not pirating and promoting the alternatives. Didn’t occur to me that a user pirating is one less user for competing products or free software

wax,

My thoughts exactly, thanks for writing this comment. The discourse in here is a bit one-sided

wax,

Yeah, good point. It’s not a clear-cut black and white issue after all, and currently absolutely tilted towards the lobbyists/big media

Apple A17 Pro SoC Within Reach of Intel i9-13900K in Single-Core Performance (www.techpowerup.com)

An Apple "iPhone16,1" was put through the Geekbench 6.2 gauntlet earlier this week—according to database info this pre-release sample was running a build of iOS 17.0 (currently in preview) and its logic board goes under the "D83AP" moniker. It is interesting to see a 16-series unit hitting the test phase only a day after the...

wax,

They have more direct control over their software ecosystem though

wax,

Yup, smart move for sure

wax,

Use godot then, or write your own engine. If the licensing permits retroactive changes to old games, I’d migrate away from unity asap. Sooner or later they want a bigger piece of the pie

wax,

If their licencing agreement permits retroactive changes like this, that is reason enough to gtfo

wax,

Same. Tried openboard again two weeks ago, but had to switch back. The predictions were just too bad

wax,

I was curious and looked up the origins of ‘ham’. Apparently it originates from “ham-fisted” describing second-rate morse-code skills of telegraphists before radio was a thing

wax,

I use arch for services that does not have debian packages or docker images. AUR usually has a convenient PKGBUILD that keeps them up to date without me having to download a blob package manually

wax,

I believe I read somewhere that they have abandoned the desktop app on Linux. Yep:

!In September 2022, Microsoft announced that they’d be retiring their Linux Teams client in December 2022 in favour of a new “Progressive Web Application” (PWA) version of Teams.!<

wax,

Ah, the classic “make a minority responsible for our problems” technique.

Splitting up completely functional families. Barbarians. Could this be appealed in the EU courts? Is political asylum in another country possible?

wax,

Gah, this is the reason I havent set up nextcloud. Cant tweak the all in one docker thing to my needs, and a manual install cant easily be updated. Too much hassle when I just want to use nextcloud memories

wax,

Torguard has worked well for me

wax,

Handy in a car i guess 🤔
