tun,

This is just storage. The article describes that the battery will use nearby solar panel for electricity.

tun,

According to the article, QD-OLED can also improve the image burn-in by using firmware and algorithm.

Counting the hour uses, leveling with most burnt pixels, reduce the luminosity, giving pixels extra luminosity to use when there is burnt in.

tun,

True.

I still have my 1080p LCD monitor from 2010s working fine.

According to the article OLED has 5% chance to have burn in after 2 years. The article also mentioned Rtings test 10 years usage for OLED monitors.

Searching for a 'library manager' that looks awesome.

As the title says. I have been searching for something like Kodi but more focused on an offline library manager for all the media I have. I can just navigate with the file explorer through my folders but it just looks not that pretty. Is there anything like a library manager to display my videos/music in a similar way of big...

tun,

If you want offline, don’t chose Plex.

I have Plex premium. When there was an internet outage in my area, Plex struggled to play even offline media.

zsh or fish for an intermediate Linux user?

So I’ve been using Linux now for a while, and am looking to migrate my dev environment to vim and spend more time in the command line. I’m fairly comfortable with bash but by no means an expert. I’ve used zsh with some minor customization but just recently learned about fish. I’d love to hear people’s opinions.

tun,

On Mac, zsh is default.

I use zsh with zinit (with turbo mode) or zgenom.

Zsh quick start kit and z4human (created by powerlevel10k author) are great starts if you do not want to invest on configuring zsh.

tun,

I tried fish and liked it.

But compatibility to bash is not great.

So I changed to zsh with zsh quick start kit (zgen and later zgenom). Zsh has more more community, frameworks and plugins.

Now I roll my own zsh config using zinit with turbo.

What are some equivalent communities to reddit's popular communities on Lemmy?

Was just banned from Reddit because I dared to use Tor (which I am using rn) and comment something. Since my account was new the mod banned me, I have 1k other reddit accounts, so not knowing I was banned, I posted in the same community with other accounts, thus three accounts are permanently banned....

People who back into parking spots: Why?

To me, it seems objectively easier to pull into a parking space forward and then back out of the space when you are ready to leave. You don’t have to line up with the lines while driving backwards, and it’s easier to keep from hitting other cars as well. So why back in? To me, the only advantage I can think of is that you...

Now there is something I do in fancy way.

Most disc movies over there are counterfeits, not official.

I live in a neighbor country of china. We grow up watching movies on VCD, DVD from China. There is no shop or market for original movie VCD or DVD. The original would be too much expensive and no one will buy.

tun,

China (and local business men) usually have multiple times of profit from the same movie.

Early released movies are not good quality. But they would sell it and people would buy it. When the movie was officially released, they would sell the same movie again as better version of the movie. Sometimes they will even sell 4 in 1 (4 movies in a single disc), different movie with same name, prequels and BluRay version.

I think your choppy version is the product of the early profit model of Chinese business men.

RIP, Mr. Bram Moolenaar.

Thank you for the VIM.

Now the time has come for the VIM future.

tun,

I started with nano, learnt vim and now using neovim.

tun,

Neovim is stable even though it is still using minor version number.

The eco system booms after 0.5 (lua support, lsp and treesitter) and after lazy.nvim.

Why doesn't Ubuntu support encrypted hibernate out of the box?

I’ve never had an issue once its set up. Just a 16GB LUKS partition alongside my normal LUKS partition, a small edit to /etc/crontab so I only have to enter the password once, set the RESUME variable, add to fstab, and rebuild init. This method even works with suspend-then-hibernate on every laptop I’ve used it with....

tun,

The last time I successfully enable hibernation, it took more tike (to save and boot from hibernate) than booting fresh and restore session.

I had 32GB of RAM and XFCE as DE.

How is pirating software a thing?

I understand that sharing video, photos, documents etc. is relatively safe because the data is not executed in the processor as instructions. How come people are willing to download and install pirated software though? How can one be confident that it does not contain malicious addons? Are people just don’t know the risks? Or...

tun,

If you get the software from reliable source, it is almost certain it does not have malware.

The piracy is an organized activity and people at higher rank nuke the release if it has malware.

    Is it only for fiction?

I found storygraph advertising themselves as alternative to Goodreads.

If you are more into fediverse, there is bookwyrm also.

    tun,

Oh, my bad. I am new to bookwyrm and just started using it.

how to delete an account and posts from an instance?

Hi everyone. After lemmy.world admin pulled a #spez style power trip and defederated with hexbear without any input from the community I’ve decided I want to delete my account and all posts. Any tips? For reddit there was a great script for deletion but I’m not finding anything for Lemmy. Thanks in advance

    tun,

    Not the answer.

Didn’t he post the reason for the defederation?

Is there a way to hide porn from my All feed without hiding all NSFW content?

Just wondering if this is possible. Don’t get me wrong, I have no issue with porn being on the site, but the fact that posts like “watch my fuck hole being filled” with graphic videos of a femboy fucking themself with a dildo is showing up on the home feed of this site makes it hard for me to recommend it to anyone, let...

    tun,

celebs community at lemmynsfw.com is, IMO, not NSFW. But marked as NSFW.

    tun,

One option is to use end to end encrypted online synced note protected behind a pin code or password.

Standard notes and Apple Notes came to mind.

    tun,

    More like a demo.

You can see it but you can’t use it.

    tun,

    Try 12ft.io

With some USB disks lying around with unimportant data.

    tun,

There are dirt cheap access point (one wifi one ethernet port) that can be used to convert your ISP wifi to ethernet. Use that ethernet as WAN to a router you can manage.

    LastPass -> Enpass -> BitWarden

Tried KeePass (on Windows), 1Password and pass before settling with BitWarden.

    I use gitea.

Edit: remove bitbucket which is not open source.
