trachemys,

UTF-32 is completely fair.

trachemys,

I completely forgot about info.

trachemys,

The key word to be searching for is “ungrab” mouse. here is a stackexchange on this.. On some systems ctrl-alt-/(on keypad) might work, but that is often disabled for security.

Accent colors are now a standard preference for Linux (github.com)

Accent colors provide a way for users to personalize their desktop in a simple, developer-friendly, and effective way. Throughout the community there has been a general interest in the inclusion of accent colors within apps and desktop environments. This proposal aims to standardize an accent color key on the Settings portal....

trachemys,

Cue “what you are calling Linux is actually” copypasta

trachemys,

Back when it worked, you just needed to disable the e cores in the bios.

trachemys,

What are the arch forums?

trachemys,

It’s not like any place on the internet is all that friendly once it grows more than a couple dozen people.

trachemys,

The worst is that if the ‘wheel’ group is empty, it will give a root shell to absolutely anyone.

Need help with AMD mesa drivers (www.amd.com)

To begin: Ubuntu 23.04 64-bit system Gnome 44.2 Kernel Version 6.2.0-26-generic Wayland So I need help with getting blender to work with my Rx6700xt, I need HIP RT running, but as of rn it’s not, do any of u have a solution for this. Also 3 months new to Linux, very scared of installing things i may or my not need.

trachemys,

I have no experience with this, but did some googling. The AMD ROCm installer instructions for Ubuntu are here. You need ROCm for HIP. That installs the entire SDK not just the runtime.

The Arch Wiki says you just need the package hip-runtime-amd. But I can’t find that package for Ubuntu.

There are also HIP installation instructions for PopOS. That’s similar to Ubuntu.

trachemys,

echo $(($(rdmsr -c 0xc0011029) & (1<<9) ))

Should return 512. You might need a ‘sudo’ before the rdmsr (any permission errors in any of this means it didn’t work). Unfortunately, this needs to be done every time you reboot. The next security update for linux will do this automatically.

trachemys,

That’s irrelevant. This proposal only gets bad if enough browsers support it that site owners can tell everybody who doesn’t use it to leave. At that point the open web is dead.

trachemys,

Too bad we can’t short a private company.

trachemys,

He really did buy it just to delete it.

Lemmy is being filled with ragebait and doombait from new accounts. This is what drove me and others away from Reddit. (lemmy.world)

Take this screenshot for example. This is the front page of Lemmy right now. Virtually every post will make the reader feel bad and depressed. It’s all doombait, ragebait - and if it’s a meme, it is usually a meme that leaves an annoyed taste in your mouth at someone or something....

trachemys,

It might be cool to have a good news only instance. But they’d have to defederate everyone.

trachemys,

According to notebookcheck, rx7600s is already 20% faster than 4050 mobile. And this is rx7700s.

trachemys,

Grossly exceeding norms that themselves are really excessive…

trachemys,

Ditching am5 in 2026 would be disappointing. Especially with how expensive am5 boards are. I bet there won’t even be any technical reason for it like we had with a new ddr version.

trachemys,

Don’t update the firmware. In 2022 they released firmware that blocks non genuine toner.

trachemys,

If you ate nothing but Soylent, it would be much easier than with real food. Soylent is likely pretty uniform.

trachemys,

Borax tablets. Just hide them around on the floor. Don’t do this if you have loose pets that might eat them.

trachemys,

Defederating lemmy.world is a temporary measure as better mod tools are made. It isn’t worth handwringing over. Defederation should not be the norm for dealing with a few trolls, or objectionable communities.

trachemys,

Federation/Fediverse should mean a user of any instance should be able to use any community. Gated communities shouldn’t be the expected norm. So, I would agree with the lemmy.world people who are upset at being broadly blocked from a Fediverse community. But it doesn’t matter because beehaw says it is temporary.

trachemys,

Why do you think entire instances will be devoted to that? You will have to block every instance that has open registration, since any open instance cannot guarantee one of the people you mentioned will not come in. I guess the issue I have is that I see moderation as something between users and communities. Not that the overall instance should be doing the moderation.

trachemys,

I have that issue too. But, clicking on the community does show the posts and I seem to be able to post comments. So I don’t know what functionality is actually “pending”.
