nova,

What? You’re saying that because we needed leather in the past, we can’t wear cotton now to keep warm? At one point we didn’t have easy access to plant-based proteins so we should continue eating animal products? By that logic, we didn’t have vaccines in the past, so does that mean we can’t use them now? Our ancestors also didn’t have the internet, so why are you here?

The past was a completely different world. Don’t let it hold you back from doing better now.

nova,

I agree. The one caveat being that there are thousands of animals in shelters who are going to live in cages for years until they’re killed. If the alternative is someone can adopt them and give them a happy life in a loving home, that’s the obviously better option.

Breeders can go fuck right off, though. Every cat or dog bred into existence condemns an animal in a shelter to die.

nova,

Sure, but that’s like saying “I don’t shoot dogs, I just kick them.” Like, sure, I guess that’s better, but when you say you do it because you “care about dogs,” that doesn’t make sense.

nova,

I think this is where the disconnect is. It’s not just milking an animal. It’s getting her pregnant, taking her child away from her shortly after birth and killing it. It’s keeping her trapped in a tiny pen for her whole life, barely able to move. Then, when she can no longer produce milk, kill her, 6 years into her 20-year lifespan.

Dairy is cruel. Arguably more cruel than meat.

nova,

You can stop eating meat at any point. No need to wait for lab grown.

nova,

“Thing thing thing remember to bring the thing” “I always forget things, but not this time because I’m thinking about thing” “I must have ADHD for always forgetting to bring things” “How do other people just remember things?” “There’s a bunch about me that’s different from other people, probably from my undiagnosed ADHD” “Like how I can’t focus during conversations because my mind drifts” “And how I…”

2 minutes later

“I forgot the thing”

nova,

Wouldn’t it be easy to lie though? Instance B could report 1000 upvotes to Instance C and Instance C would have no way of verifying that. An instance could boost its own numbers pretty easily, pushing agendas to the front page.

The transparency allows for accountability. It would be pretty easy to detect an instance making up user upvotes versus a “just trust this number” system.

I saw this in another thread on /c/Showerthoughts. I think it's important for this to be circulated widely so that the broader Fediverse community is aligned. We don't want admins second-guessing their decisions when users start infighting. We should be united in our thinking and ready to protect our platform.

A digital speedpainting. A giant reaper with a golden chain around their neck with the logo of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp and a headband with the meta logo. The giant silhouette surprise a tiny group in comparison; a warm scene of small cute characters gathered around a Fediverse glowing logo. This is the mascott of Mastodon, Pleroma, Misskey, Funkwhale, Lemmy, Peertube.

This is my feelings in reference to the discussions about Meta joining the Fediverse...

nova,

It’s not that they’re the enemy - it’s just that the platform is controlled by its users. If an admin goes bad, users have the ability to change instances or stand up instances of their own. We are not tied to a single entity’s will.

nova,

My go-to meal is Cajun pasta:

Boil whatever pasta you like (I use farfalle/bowtie). While that’s going, slice and pan fry some onion and bell pepper plus a sausage meat substitute (if you want, optional). When the pasta’s done and drained, add some crushed tomato, a few dollops of vegan cream cheese (I use Kite Hill), and a large amount of Cajun Spice Mix and mix to get a creamy red sauce. Then just throw everything together.

Pretty easy to cook. Sorry I can’t list the proportions because it’s all by feel. Really though, it’s hard to go wrong (I suppose you could over season with the spice mix, but that has yet to happen to me).
