kaotic,

EVs also greatly reduce brake dust, as most use regenerative braking under normal circumstances, leaving traditional braking for hard (emergency) braking.

kaotic,

I just hate Budweiser, not the company… the product.

kaotic,

I know a guy who’s a multimillionaire. He came up from nothing and always had the mindset that if you have to finance it, you can’t afford it. A few years ago, he wanted to purchase an apartment complex, but was short by something like $500,000. He tried to get a loan, but the bank wouldn’t give him one because he had no credit. Instead, he sold two of his supercars to cover the difference and bought the complex.

kaotic,

He’s just fine…

kaotic,

I’m running it at home won’t affect YouTube as they are serving it from their own domain, and pi-hole just blocks domains.

kaotic,

I’m pretty sure my father has only ever been in one state over, and that’s to visit Vegas. I’ve been to multiple countries on multiple continents, and I’ll continue traveling the world

Samsung joins Google in RCS shaming Apple (www.theverge.com)

Samsung has released a new video in support of Google’s #GetTheMessage campaign which calls for Apple to adopt RCS or “Rich Communication Services,” the cross-platform protocol pitched as a successor to SMS that adopts many of the features found in modern messaging apps… like Apple’s own iMessage.

kaotic,

As an iPhone user, I agree with this message. Group chat’s with Android users currently just ran in Telegram or Discord.

kaotic,

I’d rather use matrix, but Telegram is what everyone is using.

kaotic,

I’m not a part of any large channels, just private groups with 3-5 people.

What should I do with my old iPhone XR?

I just upgraded to a 13, but the trade-in was only $80 and I thought I might find something better to do with it than just get $80 back, so I’d love suggestions. Remember, it doesn’t have cellular access anymore, just wifi. Does anyone have any good ideas for what to do with it? A friend suggested a dedicated GPS for my car,...

kaotic, (edited )

Recycle it, if you can’t figure out what to do with it.

kaotic,

They’ll just put the mute function in the control center if you’re using the button for something else.

kaotic,

For some. To be completely honest I never use it, I have focus set up for various locations to control stuff like that, I just block most calls when I’m At work for example. I’m sure they’ll add mute as a focus setting.

I enjoy room temperature coffee more than piping hot or iced.

Most people I know drink their coffee piping hot and act all disgusted at the idea of letting it cool down first. They would pour it away and brew a new one rather than drink the lukewarm stuff. And if you ask a barrista around these parts to not steam the milk but pour it into the coffee cold, you’re often met with indignant...

kaotic,

I used to have an ember mug. I could set the temp. 115° was perfect. And the mug would keep it right there.

I've been blocking ads for so long that actually seeing them feels perverse

I use ad blockers and open source privacy focused software whenever I can but occasionally I have to use computers that don’t belong to me or an older phone where my usual applications aren’t installed and seeing all the advertisements just feels dirty and dystopian....

kaotic,

At this point I actively avoid brands that shove ads into my web browsing.

Like three months ago, Apollo. Now… probably agree with you on water tracker, but I use Waterminder.

kaotic,

I like how they stripped communities from their members during the protest but now they are all like “Oh yea… members should own their communities!”

kaotic,

Thats the case for most new platforms you get a surge of users and then some titer off and stop using the platform. But don’t look at the small dip look at the massive growth compared to a few months ago.

kaotic,

MOST cars have the fuel door on the left, Costco tends to have more cars queue in the lanes that match up with the left hand fuel door so regardless of what side your fuel door is on grab the lanes with the pump on the right of your car and you’ll get through a bit faster since you can pull it around.

We should stop saying "The customer is always right" because it's not true

In the grand scheme of things, the customer may have slightly more pull than the cashier ringing up their order, but it’s the CEO and the board of directors that control the narrative. That’s why we’re getting bigger and less fuel efficient vehicles, bigger and more fattening meal portions in restaurants, and bigger less...

kaotic,

The full quote is “The customer is always right in matters of taste.”

kaotic,

14 year account, I’m done with reddit.

kaotic,

Yea they should have wildcard blocks. ‘*@lemmynsfw.com’

kaotic,

I might actually submit a feature request for this. Maybe default to simple wildcard blocks with an “advanced” mode that enables regex matching.

kaotic,

Elon has no idea how to run a social media company. At this point he’s just trying random shit hoping it will work. Get the platform operating successfully again and then worry about branding…

I’ve had excellent luck with Kopia, backing up to Backblaze B2.

At work, I do the same to a local directory in my company provided OneDrive account to keep company data on company resources.

What are your favorite, durable shoes for office work?

Hey, looking into investing into a pair or two of shoes for work. I’m in IT now but worked warehouse and restaurant jobs before this and shoes were by far the biggest qol purchase I made. My current job is pretty relaxed on “business attire” but I want some sneakers and slip ones that look professional while being comfy...

kaotic,

I keep a pair of Vionic shoes in my drawer at work. I usually wear boots when I’m on my motorcycle but will change into my Vionics while at work.

[Need Advice] How do I setup remote ssh for my jellyfin server?

I currently have a jellyfin server on a rpi4 running raspbian (I think). I’m planning to migrate that to a Dell Wyse mini pc before I go on a month long trip. I would like to be able to ssh into it from outside my home and add movies and stuff. I have already setup ddns for the jellyfin server, so I only need for a way to add...

kaotic,

If your unsure how to set up public facing SSH… don’t. Your opening a possible attack vector. Use something like the free tier of Twingate.

kaotic,

Most of these would run just fine on a Raspberry Pi.

kaotic,

I can’t for the life of me get this running, the web server just throws errors about the Redis server being unavailable, using their script to generate a docker-compose file.

kaotic,

Thanks! I did update the .env file with the relevant variables, mapped the directories to local directories, Redis throws the following: pastebin.com/jgDVr4Jk and the web server throws Error: Error -5 connecting to broker:6379. No address associated with hostname… over and over.

kaotic,

I’ve been pretty happy with Memmy so far.

kaotic,

FYI. Do not plug random hardware you don’t know the source of into your computer.
