I need a little help here. I run into an unexpected occurrence, one that leaves me still wondering how it came about. I logged into my Lemmy account to disable 2FA because from my engagements, it’s not functional (if it is, kindly help me). I was required to provide a token when I couldn’t even obtain the codes then I run...
I was 11 when I took this screenshot - Ubuntu 14.04 running on my very first (incredibly bad) PC. As I recall, I couldn’t install Windows 7 without a DVD drive, and that was out of my budget :p...
I joined Lemmy a few weeks before the API change. I loved the conversations. I loved how the content was slower but more engaging, and less politically charged. There was nobody shitting on Elon Musk, or Twitter, or Reddit....
I need something like that in my life. A lot of them can be somewhat reactionary and sometimes a little right wing. Not always completely but I think sometimes it can get weird.
So I’ve got my own instance running, and I’m stumped as how to go about finding new communities if it only shows communities I’m already subscribed too....
Heheh on Linux when you think you found the answer you copy paste, log out and back in. Sometimes reboot if it don’t with try the next copy and paste… so many memories
Most mature social networks do remove this information to prevent users accidentally sharing their locations. Can someone positively say whether Lemmy is aware enough to strip extra information from photos?
I see it as a win if all instances defederate with Threads but several “read-only” instances federates with it. At least it can be viewed in privacy friendly way.
Threads should have an instance where there own users get there data plowed through by people who want it and sign up for it. But of course once they federate our instances will be free from advertisers. That’s what it’s all about each instance got it’s own rules!
I left Reddit during the blackout and haven’t looked back. I check in my sub once in a while to see what the new mod has done to it. Seems like he re-opened it. He is the first one that told me about the blackout lol, Trader!
Hi everybody, I’m a UI/UX designer and I wanna contribute to the community here with my expertise. Here is a quick prototype for a Android Lemmy app with Material You Design, it’s a simple and customizable app. With this app, I also want to improve the experience when exploring different servers....
I closed my subs on the 12th - Re-opened on the 14th. polled redditors if i should stay shut or open, They said close until reddit backs off. shut it down again. then deleted my account after the first verge article came out about u/spez saying this blackout will pass and everything will be back to normal and some other stuff. i knew then he wouldn’t change!
Does anyone have any advice on whether to use #threads or #microblogs when you're looking to say, start a discussion about a topic on #kbin? Is there an etiquette for what option is best? Or do people just pick depending on their mood (having a Twitter vs a Reddit sort of a day)?
If you want a twitter like experience where everything is just talking and people responding use post on kbin just like twitter. If you want threads where people upvote and downvote like Reddit use threads. Some people like Some people like both that’s why they have a kbin account. I’m only using lemmy more often cause of the wider selection of third party apps, my home is kbin thought!
With all the current discussion about the threat that Instagram Threads has on the Fediverse and that article about how Google Embrace Extend Extinguished XMPP, I was left very confused, since that was the first time I’ve heard that Gchat supported XMPP or what XMPP actually is, and I’ve had my personal Gmail since beta (no,...
Came over from the first reddit migration during the blackout. Remember using this App and was like something is up. Now it works like a charm. Everything about this app is smooth...
I tried one called Lemmur that I downloaded off F-Droid, however, it can not find this instance (lemmy.world). I want one that’s open-source, and preferably from F-Droid (because screw Google). Which one do you guys use?
I actually started on lemmy.ml but it was always having issues so I went to lemmy.world and had better luck. Not saying lemmy.ml is bad I’m just saying it wasn’t working when I tried!
Got it. Yea i think the migration is really for the people that use third-party apps and the people that support them. reddit is fine its just how they act toward people who are litterally moderating and giving to the community by using third-party apps. i modded my sub from rif and apollo early on. We realized that u/spez was in total control and realized we couldn’t do anything about it. we tried to protest but of course we are little fish. now we got lemmy and kbin. witch is actually better cause you arne’t jus stuck to one platoform. yes people are mimicking reddit cause thats all we know. but give it time and we will stop talking about it. i say about 1 month or so. you will still see the people talk about reddit burning in hell lol and stuff but that’s about it. the blackout brought out I think the real techies and then after the api yesterday and today closed the reset that used third-party apps and everyone that dosen’t like where reddit is going are coming over now. #fediverse is huge and we didn’t know about!
The app has an amazing experience so far, because it feels like I'm just using Apollo, heaps of baked in features that no other app has so far. It's a web app so installation is pretty forward. Much love to the Devs!...
This is a great app I opened it up and I'm blown away. Can I make a suggestion. Add classic view. Some of us don't like the images/thumbnails right in our face.
I hope Reddit learns from there mistakes but probably not they are for the bottom dollar and will listen to investors before they listen to the community that made them who they are today . All it costed us was our time and volunteering. RIP Reddit
You gotta remember, The blackout brought us refugees I don’t think lemmy planned for this. I think the updates that are coming will address all of this. Reddit is decades old. Lemmy is new to all of us. We just gotta wait and eventually it will become second nature and we will be as good as Reddit
Never new about this community. Is this place on reddit? I have to see it once the blackout is over. That looks like a lot of work to assemble and paint
Aaron is no longer considered as cofounder by reddit. He fought for free speech. (lemmy.world)
Why hasn’t r/circlejerk made there presence known on lemmy?
I liked going to there sub once in a while. Can someone with a Reddit account message the mods and see if they can get some content over here?

Is anyone else disappointed that Lemmy is becoming the new Reddit?
I joined Lemmy a few weeks before the API change. I loved the conversations. I loved how the content was slower but more engaging, and less politically charged. There was nobody shitting on Elon Musk, or Twitter, or Reddit....
Are there any communities or instances on this website for Asians or people of color to talk about racial politics?
I need something like that in my life. A lot of them can be somewhat reactionary and sometimes a little right wing. Not always completely but I think sometimes it can get weird.
How to find new communities to subscribe to?
So I’ve got my own instance running, and I’m stumped as how to go about finding new communities if it only shows communities I’m already subscribed too....

Does Lemmy strip photo GPS data?

If Threads wants to join the Fediverse, will it be possible to view Threads content using FOSS frontends?
I see it as a win if all instances defederate with Threads but several “read-only” instances federates with it. At least it can be viewed in privacy friendly way.
Are you replacing Reddit with Lenny?
This seems like a good place so far tbh

How many people here have actually used XMPP?

Why am I still able to load the front page of Reddit on RIF? (kbin.social)
I got the "shutting down" message and I was signed out of all of my accounts. But the front page, posts, and comments are all still loading just fine.
Why is my Infinity app (from F-Droid) still working?
I thought it would stop working 1st of July?
Such a great app!

The official reddit app is not even supported on my device. (lemmy.world)
Well i am certainly not using reddit on my tablet anymore.
What from reddit do you hope to never see on lemmy?
i can’t stand megathreads – no one reads these! no one wants their posts banished there!
How did Lemmy.world become more popular than Lemmy.ml?
I don’t understand how Lemmy.world developers managed to surpass both Lemmy.ml and Beehaw.org instances in user activity.
How to avoid the Reddit downfall

Reddit Migration
The real #redditmigration starts the 30th or the 1st, I hope lemmy and kbin are ready for the traffic!
The best Lemmy app so far is "Wefwef" hands down. If you loved Apollo you'd love this.
The app has an amazing experience so far, because it feels like I'm just using Apollo, heaps of baked in features that no other app has so far. It's a web app so installation is pretty forward. Much love to the Devs!...
