isVeryLoud,

Fuck yeah!

The fact that they had to pay $1 Billion to Figma is the cherry on the cake. I hope they get a change of management and stay independent.

isVeryLoud,

Shoulda put a picture of the Montreal airport

isVeryLoud,

Isolation from the rest of society leads people to echo chambers because of a lack of diversity in ideas.

Think of it as opinion inbreeding.

isVeryLoud,

Was the “fucking” manually censored lmao

isVeryLoud,

I’m an early gen Z, I’m 25 right now, and have been on the job market for 8 years so far.

I’m tired, I’m overworked, I’m stressed, I’m looking for upward mobility in my domain but every company is making cutbacks, withholding bonuses and holding pay increases.

I’m a software developer. I’m working a main job and freelancing on the side to make ends meet, and it’s still not enough.

I invest in my future with things like RRSP and FHSAs, I have some luxuries (small car, a dog because what is life if it’s completely miserable?), and it hurts every time I get a necessity because everything goes to rent, food, clothing, etc. and grocery bills are always close to $200 for 2 people, even at the cheaper grocery stores.

Everything’s down on quality, nothing lasts, so we either have to buy things over and over, or save up a ton of money to pay luxury prices for a decent product that won’t break the very fucking second the warranty expires.

We’re getting gouged as much as possible. My group is particular because we started our careers slightly before or during the 2020 pandemic, where companies learned that they could gouge the fuck out of everyone on necessities, and people starting out fresh are hit the hardest as they don’t have savings or mature investments.

isVeryLoud,

You can edit the post, y’know :P

isVeryLoud,

The only part of RCS that’s open is the protocol used for servers, like Google’s Jibe and Samsung’s messages server, to talk to each other.

There is currently no easy way to run such a server yourself, there are none available, and even if one did become available and you could run it, good luck making it talk to the big boys’ servers as they could just dismiss you as spam.

isVeryLoud,

Openwashing? I made it up, but it could work.

isVeryLoud,

You’re supposed to say “rule”, you blithering numpty!

Now you’ve doomed us all!!!1!

isVeryLoud,

He has a girlfriend that goes to a school there?

isVeryLoud,

That’s a stupid take because people don’t have the right to vote on the future of Windows, it’s a Microsoft dictatorship.

isVeryLoud,

I’m from Quebec, always called it a soft drink, or boisson gazeuse.

isVeryLoud,

It’s basically the tactic of adding noise to a discourse to derail the conversation, thus preventing conversation altogether and keeping factual information from being accessible.

isVeryLoud,

It’s not about being right or wrong, they know what they’re doing. Quit giving them the benefit of the doubt.

They want to derail discourse so they can apply their politically expedient talking points without competition or questioning.

isVeryLoud,

You know these are volunteers that work for free, right?

isVeryLoud, (edited )

Correct, but I’m seeing a lot of abusive criticism in this thread, where we bash the devs rather than the code. That’s where I draw the line.

Also, when criticizing work, it should be kept constructive rather than just hurling generic statements and insults. A well formulated thought is more likely to change things than a toxic, meaningless rage-induced rant.

isVeryLoud,

Yes, however most GNOME developers are not RedHat / Canonical employees.

Even those that do work for those companies should be treated with dignity. GNOME is free of charge, and no one is obligated to use GNOME.

isVeryLoud,

I will wash everything in cold water and tumble dry, then complain that all my clothing shrunk.

You can’t stop me!

isVeryLoud,

Good idea, stupid name.

Excellent for causing FUD.

No, this will not increase the amount of kernel panics you see. It just makes them more informational to the average person. Technical folks can disable it, non-technical folks won’t know how to enable it, so on by default it is.

isVeryLoud,

I’m in Montreal and in the same situation. No family doctor, whenever I have a health issue I have to call 811 to get sent to a clinic so I can have my problems dismissed by a random doctor.

I’m tempted to go to Ontario to pay for a private doctor, which defeats the purpose of our system.

isVeryLoud,

They’re all full and not taking any new patients, or nowhere near where I live unfortunately

isVeryLoud,

You might be onto something!

I was scratching my head on the purpose of this spam, but that’s a possibility.

Long live Blahaj!

isVeryLoud,

The “thingy” looks like anal beads.

You’re welcome.

isVeryLoud,

IMO people who are that petty aren’t worth having in your life.

isVeryLoud,

Mmmm, confit errors 😋🍽️

isVeryLoud,

I get excited when people post to my c/Montreal community! It’s kinda dead unfortunately, tempted to staple posters around the city.

isVeryLoud,

It’s the GNOME ToolKit now

isVeryLoud,

I want to stab you 20 times.

You don’t want to be stabbed at all.

Let’s compromise and stab you 10 times.

isVeryLoud,

By using whataboutism, which is used to dismiss problems by pointing out others problems.

You did not explicitly state it, but dragging focus away from this problem is clearly your goal here. Why else did you write that comment?

isVeryLoud, (edited )

Definitely the correct answer.

It’s a drag and drop appimage manager, like macOS DMGs. And it’s a flatpak!

isVeryLoud,

That’s very based of you, thank you for helping confuse Google

isVeryLoud,

Y’all voted 196 on 196 about 196’s report of a road closure

Vehicle thieves taking up arms, police chief warns (ottawacitizen.com)

More than 1,200 vehicles have been stolen in Ottawa this year, a 16 per cent jump from the year before, with new model SUVs and light trucks the most popular targets. New model Toyota Rav4 , Honda CRV, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ford F-Series trucks are especially popular, along with any vehicle with a push-button starter....

isVeryLoud,

The thefts most likely highlight an underlying problem, where people are willing to do unscrupulous things to put food on the table.

It’s a sign of an economy with weak wages where people can’t afford to put food on the table, likely due to the growing inequality.

They should definitely be punished as this directly harms other low income Canadians, but the underlying issue needs to be addressed or there will be more people willing to take risks to put food on the table.

tl;dr blame the rich. That’s my shit take anyway, I’m not an economist.

isVeryLoud,

That’s not even Nothing Chats’ biggest problem: it’s that it gets completely MITM’d by going onto some mac mini in some server farm somewhere.

isVeryLoud,

$150 million is like me getting a Starbucks coffee to them. Pathetic.
