To be clear, the “Red Scare” was just a cudgel wielded by Joe McCarthy (no relation to Kevin “uWu please notice me, GOP sempai” McCarthy) against people he considered to be his political opponents. It wasn’t really about finding actual Soviet/Communist covert elements and influences, and it never was.
