I remember using Chrome for the very first time after ditching IE. It was an amazing and glorious experience compared to how shitty IE was. Then I learned about how invasive it was. Like millions of other people, I just ignored it for years. I hoped that readjusting my ‘privacy’ settings would be enough. The writing on the wall for me was MV3 and FLoC.

A few years ago I switched to Firefox and never looked back. In the back of my mind, I had hoped chrome would tame it’s insatiable hunger for user data, but this news has proved to me that it will only continue to get worse…

The most depressing thing this article says is the last line “and people will probably still not switch to Firefox”. I am just sad now, not angry.

Modern society is all about convenience. Linux can increase marketshare by being more convenient and digestible. Actually, I am in the process of moving to Debian w/ KDE Plasma as my daily driving computer, but it required extensive research on what my options were. Quite simply, there are WAY too many options all touting features that slightly differ from each other than normal end users struggle to interpret.

Formula is simple. More easy = more better. Make adoption as painless as possible, people MIGHT trickle in.

I tried. Even if the direct play is 1080p, they still transcode and they don’t know the difference. They just ask “why is it buffering so much”. The luxury about netflix is that it handled all the quality control with zero fiddling. I screech every time I see the little HW symbol.
