dependencyInjection,

He earns it quicker than he can spend or give it away. Money makes money ain’t a lie bruh.

dependencyInjection,

I like that you added all the zeroes so people can get an idea of how insane it is.

Any idea what Google are doing? Is this because I dont use Chrome (use Firefox)? I've no adblockers. (lemmy.world)

So this started coming up today. On every video. I can (so far) click the “x” and remove it to watch (still see 2 ads before the video, and one after 4 minutes - ruins music on YT), but did click the “Report issue” only for the dialogue box not to work....

dependencyInjection,

It’s really great when you put on some calming music for sleep that’s 8 hours long and has an ad break every 5 minutes.

dependencyInjection,

Then I’d have to buy a fucking cd player and also listen to the same damn thing every evening.

dependencyInjection,

I too miss the days of CDs.

There was even a time when Music Zone (store in the UK) would let you return cds. Well it was free reign to buy them, copy them and then return the original.

I recall having a printer that could print the album art on them.

Or even recording from the radio on to tape or mini disc. And even Smash Hits for lyrics.

You’re right, relationships with music were different than they are now.

I can’t lie though some things are better now. Take Apple Classical for instance. I can listen to the music entire collection of classical music by opening an app. It’s amazing.

Phishing Mails (lemmy.world)

This will be a quick post. We have received a phishing mail to our [email protected] mail address telling that they are “lemmy.world Security Team”, telling that they will “disconnect” your account from our instance. This is ofc, not us. Do not fall for it! The attached image is how the mail looks like....

dependencyInjection,

Isn’t it a waste of time trying these scams on lemmy.

I could be wrong here but I would argue the vast majority of users are somewhat tech proficient since it’s not reached mass adoption and the user base is well, just us nerds?

dependencyInjection,

I guess hubris can be a factor too.

dependencyInjection,

Do you leave the house? Or just take your desktop with you?

dependencyInjection,

It’s less about not liking ads and more that the ads are plagued with scams, spam and whatever else.

Don’t we think that they should be held accountable for the type of ads they run on there? Crypto scams, get rich quick, and mlms to name a few.

The same goes for the MSN homepage it’s fucking ridiculous.

Also, if they want to serve me ads, then stop selling my data too. If I sign up for premium they’ll still sell your data anyway.

I am not really in a place where I would want to defend billion dollar companies.

dependencyInjection,

I was thinking more about the fact you’ve not seen an advert for 10 years.

They’re on every site these days not just videos. Perhaps you just meant video ads.

dependencyInjection, (edited )

I believe I said if I paid for premium they would still be selling my data. Premium doesn’t come with ads ergo they don’t need to personalise ads they’re not going to serve me.

Edit: I just reread my OC and concede I worded it poorly.

dependencyInjection,

You say as you reply to a comment explicitly discussing the content of the ads.

dependencyInjection,

I hope that was a poorly received joke?

Nobody is above criticism.

dependencyInjection,

Just putting this out there that nobody really chooses an addiction.

They’re a victim just as much as their children become victims.

dependencyInjection,

I rage quit Google search the other day over that damn captcha

dependencyInjection, (edited )

Even with tools like Let’s Encrypt, people are still not implanting implementing HTTPS?

dependencyInjection,

This is by design. Helps to stop any competition as they will now struggle to get the same amount of training data.

dependencyInjection,

Gotta admire the misplaced condescension.

Magnetism only feels like magic, because we don't have biological sensors for it

Think about it. Isn’t light+eyes and ears+sound just the same in terms of their “influence at a distance”? We don’t feel that as abnormal or magic - simply because we’ve sensors for them and are used to it. But physically speaking light and magnetism are based on electromagnetic forces.

dependencyInjection,

I feel like this was a joke that nobody got.

dependencyInjection,

Removable batter means you can replace the battery. Which also means you can keep it longer which means it’s better for the plant… ugh you probably don’t care if all you can think is huh duh it’s not like all the other phones.

dependencyInjection,

I do. It’s the opposite of left.

What an odd accusation!

dependencyInjection,

Im sorry I won’t converse with someone that thinks the best way to get their point across is to include insults.

Have a great day and try to be better.

dependencyInjection,

dependencyInjection,

I got what wrong exactly?

dependencyInjection,

I do.

I use SimpleLogin and ProtonMail.

Some sites have I’ll actually know you’re using SimpleLogin though and just say no, but they’re few and far between.

You could also use your own domain if you have one or buy a cheap one.

Then you can create as many as you like and just kill them as and when you need.

SimpleLogin has plugins for all browsers and phones so it’s not too difficult to create new addresses.

dependencyInjection,

Not OP but mine is 00:00 - 06:00.

I can’t fall asleep at 22:00. But my ideal schedule if I work permitted it would be 02:00 - 10:00. When I’ve kept this schedule before it’s literally night and day how better I feel.

I could go to sleep however early you like but I’d still be wrecked at 06:00.

dependencyInjection,

That ain’t healthy bro. You can’t catch up on sleep.

dependencyInjection,

Excellent use of your empathy there.

If I have to do it so should everybody mentality.

If some humans can handle lactose and others can’t. Some suffer from migraines whilst others don’t etc. you don’t think it’s possible that we also have different circadian rhythms.

Perhaps you could exercise some critical thought. Maybe go read any of the various studies on sleep and make an informed decision rather than a knee jerk reaction.

Also, positive intent. Just assume people are being truthful for the most part. Life is easier if you’re not looking to shit on people.

dependencyInjection,

You can’t see that the more people cycle or the more bus lanes we have also means less cars.

Try framing it like this. Every time you see a cyclist remember that’s one less car. Or a bus could be 20-50 less cars on the road.

dependencyInjection,

No. Trust is lost.

If Apple can exercise positive intent as a core tenant of their business then so could yours.

Assuming everyone is out to get you is how you end up bitter.

dependencyInjection,

I mean I did work there for 3 years but sure you know better.

dependencyInjection,

I guess I can’t reason you out of a mindset that you didn’t arrive at through reason in the first place.

With that said have a nice day and try to be better!

Tu eres aburrida.

dependencyInjection,

Have you ever been to London? Because we have many many cycle lanes and it does help the flow of traffic.

Ever heard of Amsterdam?

I’m happy to be shown some examples to the contrary though.

dependencyInjection,

🥱

dependencyInjection,

here

here

You can’t guarantee anything of the sort, but fyi many of the routes are from road lanes, it’s London after all not much room for lateral space, but many places have put them at the side of the roads.

dependencyInjection,

Bro I’ve lived in London. Just go there and see with your own eyes.

dependencyInjection,

Firstly I think if they let him in then they have to pay. Otherwise they couple have banned his entry.

Also, why should regular Russians be punished for the actions of their government?

I don’t remember being excluded from things when my government illegally invaded Iraq (UK).

dependencyInjection,

I don’t really complain about seeing ads in apps i didn’t pay for, but I do complain about seeing ads on public transit and in the world in general. I don’t want the world plastered with ads.

Hell they’re on the motorways here which seems ludicrous.

dependencyInjection,

I think what people are missing here is that although a new phone comes out every year, not every consumer is on the same upgrade schedule.

If I keep my phone for five years then that’s four phones in not getting.

dependencyInjection,

Don’t bother with cases and just get AppleCare+.

A glass screen protector is £20-30, replacing the display under AC is £25.

A decent case like a Mous one is £50. Replacing the device under AC is £79.

Plus the phone looks nicer, temps are better, and it’s less cases being manufactured.

dependencyInjection,

I don’t think you understand. I am not paying for them.

I have AC+.

Either you buy high quality screen protectors for your £1000 device or you don’t bother. The same for cases. Mous for instance are extremely durable, but not as good value as AC.

I’m 12 months in and not had a claim but best believe before the two year mark my phone WILL have an incident and for £79 I get a replacement with a new battery and all.

Or I could buy a case that holds no value, my phone can still break and then it’ll cost me more money. Than just having insurance which is guaranteed to make me whole again.

dependencyInjection,

That’s fair.

Just to add the extra info, I pay £9.99 per month for apple care.

Say I buy a case for £5 and a screen protector for £5 and I break my screen. I’m now out of£10 and the price of a new display, last time I looked it was £189, likely more these day.

So that one break costs more than the whole year of AC plus the excess.

Are you saying that if you have a case then you’re never going to break your phone?

Sure I could have a year without breaking it, but as I said after two I will break it on purpose to get my monies work and have a brand new (refurbished to new standards) handset.

dependencyInjection, (edited )

If you want a corporation to stop performing a socially harmful business, you need to make that business unprofitable.

This is neigh on impossible. I don’t shop at Amazon, but I doubt they even noticed. I try to avoid brands like Nestle but they’re still going.

The last thing I ordered that wasn’t from Amazon was still delivered by Amazon. I was shocked.

dependencyInjection,

Im as cynical as they come and I want to see more posts like this.

I still have an urge to be cynical, but less so.

dependencyInjection,

I agree it’s still good to know these things.

I also think there should be reasonable limits on what data they can try to access. Like do Uber need to know my location? Obviously, whilst I’m using the app, but they absolutely don’t need to access my contacts.
