18+ How can I deal with strays?

::: spoiler Violence My home is in a very rural area in the US with no spay/neuter laws or animal control. It is also down a road that is the local traditional dumping ground for unwanted animals. We have our dogs, cats, and poultry here in a fenced area. Generally, strays can be chased off by shooting roman candles in their...

bouh,

The solution I heard the most of was poisoned food. I don’t know which poison is good though. For babies, I’ve heard about putting in bag and then in the water.

Rural life can be very cruel. It’s a privilege of sheltered city dwellers to think that animals should always be protected and taken care of. There’s no such thing as the harmony of nature, it’s just brutal and cruel.

Or enslaved sunrays maybe?

"Horrifying even the most radical critics of Western capitalism:" In Putin’s Russia, mass media has gone from being a function of society to a form of power over it, researcher says (russiapost.info)

“In alliance with the authoritarian regime, the [Russian] mass media has made the country a real ‘society of the spectacle,’”, says Ilya Budraitskis, a political and social theorist previously based in Moscow. Currently he is a Visiting Scholar with the Program in Critical Theory, UC Berkeley in the US.

bouh,

I’m pretty sure capitalism is perfectly compatible with a genocidal feudalistic dictatorship.

In many cases you don’t need an obscure language to do magic. Latin is merely the language in which the sorcery books were written. And they were written because it was the language of the scholars, which magic practitioners pretended to be.

bouh,

It depends on the place. In France for example it was always considered the language was gallo-roman, because they never completely spoke Latin. Latin was the written language, but the spoken language was a mix of celtic and Latin. And by the XIIth century it was old French. Southern France, occitan is even worse: it started to be latinised in the IInd century, and mixed again with celtic in the VIth century.

Those languages are roman languages, so they indeed are majorly Latin in their origin, but they never were actual Latin. It’s not even sure most people actually ever spoke Latin. It was very common in the past to use translators to communicate.

bouh,

Most probably not. And if you’re refugees? You’ll have better chance with the BBC.

More seriously, we have serious problems with our police. There should be someone speaking English when you call, but probably not well, and 50% chance is he’s very racist. You also need to convince him that it’s a true emergency, or they won’t do anything.

bouh,

That is true, but I wouldn’t want to bet my life on that! :D

bouh,

It’s not hate. It’s just that when you know things, windows is simply insufferable and not working. And they make the system worse with each update.

bouh,

Before it was merely people using money.

I’ve seen an interesting video about it a few months ago: 400 years ago is actually mercantilism. It means people build their fortune out of selling goods. Before that, it was about possessing lands and taxing the people who lived there.

Capitalism is different than both. It’s not born 400 years ago with the trading with the America. It’s born with the industrial revolution when the bourgeoisie seized the power with democracy.

bouh,

I guess capitalism can be seen as an extension of mercantilism, but now they don’t only trade goods but everything they can. They’re the same people so the ruthless cutthroat part would merely be their original philosophy.

bouh,

Huh! How many hours have you in the game? I finished the story once but I feel like there’s so much more to do!

bouh,

Not sure there’ll still be ice in the north by then.

bouh,

It’s not green enough for the ecofascists who’d rather have coal than nuclear, but we still have nuclear.

bouh,

I doubt you understand what the job is about, considering your comment.

bouh,

bouh,

bouh,

Wow! Something smart in this thread! Bravo !

bouh,

It’s funny how it’s “the game’s are not expensive enough” and not “we don’t know how to manage our or money” or “our profit are too high”. Fuck those capitalists.

Oh the stupid shit head “games are 100 times more expensive to make now” but you sell thousands times more and there no physical media anymore is irrelevant I guess… Assholes…

bouh,

They sell vastly more games than before. And there isn’t a media anymore. And they should have increased their productivity in all these years.

Video games are not a good. They’re a digital product, a service. The cost is completely decorrelated from the amount you sell. Which is why it is so profitable.

bouh,

My parents dog. There were two of them. The older was almost blind at this point, but the young one was smart. She was taking care of the old dog most of the time (like barking so he knew to come back in the night for example). Once the old dog had a bone to chew. She barked at the horizon as if a cat was there, so the old dog run to it barking. She immediately stop barking and take the bone for her.

Now she’s older and the old one is no more. She manipulates my parents now. To get carried instead of walking for example.

bouh,

I can show many democracies in Africa like that! :D

bouh,

The vanguard state is a mean to reach communism, it is not communism itself. That’s a pretty big difference.

The difference is the same with the gouvernement révolutionnaire in France during the revolution, and you can make parallels with US revolution too. I’m pretty sure the US government is very different from what it was during its war against UK.

bouh,

This certainly never happens with liberalism. Africa has never seen war since democracy and liberalism freed it obviously. And putin is the prime example of a communist I guess.

bouh,

bouh,

Not that far! Only no coal in electricity is planned…

bouh,

It’s already planning to do almost nothing. Most of the plan will rely on people replacing their cars with electric ones, and their fuel heaters with heat pumps.

bouh,

bouh,

In my country we have antifa for antifascists. Are you here some kind of anti-tankies? Because I see far, far more posts about antitankies fighting supposed tankies than I see people fighting fascists.

bouh,

I guess you’re half a fascist.

bouh,

Thing is, I’ve never seen a tankie. I’ve already talked to many fascists here on lemmy though.

bouh,

The only posts I see about tankies are from anti-tankies.

bouh,

Again, that’s anti-tankie memes I see every week. Not tankie ones. It’s the anti-tankies who are very active, not the tankies.

bouh,

Yet, but specifying this, you focus the discussion on the flaws of the left, rather than the actual fascists who are training, arming, and preparing coops in the western world, like they did in the US not so long ago.

Yet here we are talking about how communists are also fascists…

bouh,

The why is there so much anti-tankie propaganda? Like so much more than antifascist propaganda?

bouh,

I’m not suggesting anything. I’m pointing out a bias: eventhough fascism is rampant in the west, to the point there was a coop attempt in the US a few years ago. Yet people on lemmy are very hard fighting tankies where ever they can find them, even baiting with anti-tankie memes on a very regular basis.

Tankies are not treated like fascists. There is a war waged against them on lemmy eventhough tankies don’t exist in the west.

Tankies don’t exist in the west because, as it was said, tankies and fascists are the same kind of extremists, but in the west we have fascists already. You don’t have both tankies and fascists in the same place.

So here we are, with western people on the hunt against tankies. To me they are fascists waging a cultural war on social media.

bouh,

Just no. It’s something libs seemingly can’t understand : you need surplus to face problems and adapt to a changing situation or a crisis without people dying. Problem is that libs care more about money than people, so they seek an equilibrium where supply is right below demand so the capitalists can exploit the people.

bouh,

That’s wrong. In many countries boomers possess a truckload of the estate, but they don’t expect to sell it because it’s their life insurance.

It’s not cartel or collusion, it’s how society was planned by the libs over the last 50 years.

bouh,

That’s what I call the libs: it’s not an entity, it’s the politicians with this ideology. Feel free to turn that into a conspiracy.

bouh,

I’m not on low end hardware.

bouh,

“you use it wrong”… Of course… It cannot possibly be the fault of a shitty software and it must be me…

bouh,

Steam has been working on the steam deck for how long now? 5? 10 years? Gog has that much time to catch up.

And as I said, I don’t deny the role steam played and is still playing for Linux gaming. But it’s still a drm. And that’s something I simply cannot ignore.

I do use steam mind you. But I’ll use and support gog everytime I can. If steam did the most for Linux, gog did and still do the most for players.

bouh,

Hahaha like people will fill a bug report everytime a software crash… I wonder whether you’re delusional or blinded by your faith into this piece if shit of a software.
