asexualchangeling,

Same, I don’t even touch google play anymore, to high a risk of downloading spyware or a virus

asexualchangeling,

I suppose him being stranded there doesn’t preclude humans colonizing it, just gotta wait for his air supply to run out…

asexualchangeling,

Between WINE and proton most games work these days though… Sure if the game’s not on steam it might take a couple extra steps, but more often than not those extra steps are just adding it as a non steam game and assigning a proton version in properties in the GUI and it works

asexualchangeling,

Who would fantasize about billionaires existing?

asexualchangeling,

At least hopefully in that future they’re all interoperable so choosing one over another wouldn’t really be that big an issue

asexualchangeling,

I mean yeah, mastodon doesn’t like Nazis

asexualchangeling,

I’m not a Microsoft fan, in fact I think of windows the same way I would an abusive Ex, but there NEEDS To be more competition in the mobile space

asexualchangeling,

Fair enough, what I really want is the ability to have a proper, functional, linux distro on my phone

asexualchangeling,

Depending on the distro you don’t actually need terminal, I certainly can’t remember the last time I used it, it’s a nice tool, but to many tutorials act as if it’s the only way of doing everything

Also, it’s been 30 years sense you started using windows, of course you don’t remember what it was like to use it at the start, everyone has to learn to use a new system, same goes for someone who switched to windows from Linux

asexualchangeling,

If that’s the case I’ve done the impossible, good to know

asexualchangeling,

Installed, used, and enjoyed linux without touching terminal

asexualchangeling,

Honestly I don’t know why anyone is still subscribed after they showed their true colors regarding “love is sharing a password”

And then proceeded to raise prices

asexualchangeling,

I’ve always been a fan of Munster

asexualchangeling, (edited )

Make that four

willing to try if you are…

asexualchangeling,

Congratulations, this comment caused me physical pain

asexualchangeling,

Has it? I thought that was only added in a recent update?

Not that I’d know, I stopped using windows almost 2 years ago

asexualchangeling,

Yeah I know that much, I was questioning the “for ages” part

"Linux Desktop: A Collective Delusion" - an unhinged rant (tadeubento.com)

Linux has made significant strides, and in 2023, it’s better than ever. However, there are still individuals perpetuating a delusion: that desktop Linux is as user-friendly and productive as its mainstream counterparts. After a few discussions on Lemmy, I believe it’s important to provide a clear review of where Linux falls...

asexualchangeling,

Ahem, normal computer would be windows, it functions better than a normal computer

/s

asexualchangeling,

I never got to try it, but ever sense getting the SteamDeck I’ve really wanted them to come out with a steam controller 2, that has all the inputs of the Deck

asexualchangeling,

If they block my google account, so be it, I’m done with them, they are a horrible company and keep getting worse

asexualchangeling,

Ready for a disturbing question?

Which one?

asexualchangeling,

Welcome to English, no it doesn’t make sense and it contradicts it’s own supposed “rules” constantly, but it’s made of a hodgepodge of other languages, as well as slang that evolved from both it and those other languages, so what do you expect?

asexualchangeling,

Honestly not sure we should be referring to windows as a PC OS anymore, Microsoft changing settings without your permission doesn’t sound like something that should happen on a Personal computer…

asexualchangeling,

Remove the word personal and that’s what I always used to hear about apple, and you know what? Microsoft is becoming more and more like apple every day

asexualchangeling,

These days it’s hard to argue with that, windows used to actually let you control the computer… But those days are long gone

Good thing I love using linux!

asexualchangeling,

One thing that you should understand first, most of the time linux tutorials involve the terminal, that’s becouse for a lot of linux users it’s faster and easier to do things that way, on the other hand usually there is a GUI based way to do those things as well (depending on what desktop environment you’re using it can be more or less likely)

asexualchangeling,

If everyone acted like you, the AAA game industry wouldn’t exist.

Good, we’d all be better off

asexualchangeling,

No wonder they haven’t made it publicly available beyond the SteamDeck yet!

I totally forgot how terrible a non-ad-free YouTube experience is

So I’ve been using youtube ad blockers since pretty much when ad blocker extensions were first available. Lately though I’ve been getting hit more and more with these messages that YT was sending out every 5 or so videos telling me that adblockers aren’t allowed. No problem, just gotta wait 5 seconds to x it out and then...

asexualchangeling,

The day YouTube successfullly made it so that it won’t work without playing ads is the day I delete every google account I have

I’m not putting up with it

asexualchangeling,

You underestimate the amount of data google collects from it’s users, and then sells to advertisers, whether or not they view ads

asexualchangeling,

Sure but it would still be a massively ad filled experience, not worth my time

asexualchangeling,

I’m reminded of Google’s financial support for Firefox, so as to dissuade the idea that they are a monopoly

asexualchangeling,

third preference: dual-boot.

Does that mean they’re gonna stop eating grub? Becouse I won’t dual boot let alone allow windows near my hardware till it stops eating grub

asexualchangeling,

Last time it happened to me was early in my linux journey (around 2 years ago) with win 10, honestly if I wasn’t already extremely pissed off at windows at the time I probably would have given up on linux when it happened, as it was though I instead gave up on Windows and haven’t looked back

asexualchangeling, (edited )

So I’d have to remove my already setup to how I like it OS, install windows, remove all the garbage it comes with, reinstall Linux, and then re set it up to how I like…

Just to “more easily” do VR? Yeah no thanks, seems like far more effort than windows is worth to me

asexualchangeling,

That truly is the highest honor, especially if it’s allowed to start up with the computer

Top 20 games played on Steam Deck in the past month, sorted by playtime.

@steamdeck

asexualchangeling,

Cyberpunk 2077 with the new DLC can also manage 40 pretty easily

asexualchangeling,

How far are you? I’ve played it on my laptop but I’m concerned how well it would run act 3

asexualchangeling,

My dad is unfortunately one of those who don’t believe he has faults, and as far as I can tell he doesn’t even spend much time in 𝕏itter, so yes, plenty still believe he’s infallible, and not just those who spend to much time on his fansite

Cyberpunk runs 30% faster on linux than on windows 11 (m.youtube.com)

The YouTube channel “Maximum Fury” conducted a technical test of the new Cyberpunk add-on called “Phantom Liberty” on an older AMD hardware system, testing it separately on Linux and Windows 11. The Linux system, specifically the Fedora distribution called Nobara, performed significantly better, delivering 31% more...

asexualchangeling,

What did you play it on before? If steam you just have to change a dropdown and it should just work

If gog or something else you should just add it to steam as a non steam game and change a drop down and it should just work

asexualchangeling,

In the games properties under compatibility first you click a check box that says “force the use of a specific steam play compatibility tool” and then in the drop down below that select proton experimental

asexualchangeling,

It occurs to me that if you aren’t installing it through steam it might be slightly more effort becouse you can’t use a windows installer without something to run the .exe, steam should work for that too, but so would something like bottles or Lutris

asexualchangeling,

I wasn’t sure how you were installing it, if you were using something like a gog installer lutris for example could handle the installation for you, but sense you have it installed that’s irrelevant

steam runs natively on linux though so no you wouldn’t have to emulate it or anything

Without knowing more I’m not sure about the prefomance though, and I’m not an expert, but if you are dual booting it might have something to do with the file system you are using, I’ve not messed with dual booting before so I can’t be sure, and I wouldn’t know how to fix it either

asexualchangeling,

Yes, you can use windows installers on linux, Lutris and bottles provide different UIs for that, some prefer one or the other

There’s also heroic launcher (even for windows iirc) for an alternate launcher for Epic games (amung others)

Personally what I tend to do is use one of those for installation, and run it through steam to play it, there are other ways, but I like the Steam UI and controller customization

Also if you are considering fedora and you want to try it for gaming, I just want to recommend nobara, it’s basically Fedora just with some modifications for gaming

asexualchangeling, (edited )

Oh no, that messes up my future plans to have an extra SSD on my computer for dual booting so I can more easily do VR

Oh well, I guess I don’t ever have to look at windows again, that works too

asexualchangeling,

I share a name with a fictional character (and some real famous people but no one ever commented about those)

When I was younger it used to be annoying becouse other kids would make jokes, but as I got older they stopped and I started introducing myself with some jokes of my own (that were a bit more creative than theirs if I do say so myself)
