SomeRandomWords,

I thought all FSD updates were beta updates? Did I miss the announcement of FSD going GA and being stable?

If that’s the case, then yeah I probably wouldn’t test run a new update on the highway first. But I also have no idea if this issue happens at lower speeds as well.

SomeRandomWords,

I live in a city where taking an Uber or Lyft a few miles is like $25, maybe $50 at the last call surge. Unfortunately ride-sharing is a lot more expensive in cities that don’t also have good transit, so I keep getting reminded that $25 is cheap for a ride share across any distance.

Back when I used to go out drinking, catching the last train home or taking an Uber was my go-to choice. I don’t drink much nowadays, but the rush home in an area without good transit infrastructure is still something I think about a lot.

SomeRandomWords,

Like the island that’s a part of Hawaii? /s

SomeRandomWords,

As someone who has been drawing a ton of sidewalks and crossings lately, this is probably the most annoying thing I have to encounter. You can get around the warnings for marked crossings that are automatically created by just setting the markings, but you don’t have that option for unmarked crossings so you either have to set the tag in bulk at the end or hit the upgrade tags button on every node.

This has to be an easy fix to send in a pull request… 🤔

SomeRandomWords,

You can select multiple entities at once by holding SHIFT while clicking them (in iD and JOSM at least). From there you can set the missing tag (I think it’s marked=no) at the bottom of the combined tags table in the left pane.

Pushbullet alternative?

I see several that can push notifications from self hosted services like Gotify, Pushbit, Uptime Kuma, etc. But is there anything that can handle SMS portion that PB does so dang well? I tried KDE Connect and it was not a great experience. But I’ll give it another try once my new PC is built, but between my Macbook and my...

SomeRandomWords,

My understanding is that you’re not going to find a self hosted solution that makes use of SMS (not counting email to SMS gateways) because sending SMS programmatically requires a SMS gateway those aren’t cheap (think of Twilio). You can find many options for app-based notifications (push notifications usually) and email-based notifications as a workaround.

SomeRandomWords,

Accidentally checked the bot flag in your account?

SomeRandomWords,

In the US they’re a lot cheaper now than they used to be. You can pick up 3M Aurora N95 masks for about $1/ea in store in many areas. Still not nearly as cheap as surgical masks, but also clearly better than surgical masks.

Once you have to start importing them, the price seems to rapidly increase.

SomeRandomWords,

It’s even worse when you go to the manufacturer’s website, order it directly there, and then have it delivered using Amazon fulfillment still despite trying to avoid it.

SomeRandomWords,

That’s where I’m at. Discord isn’t the issue for me, it’s them not using their own platform to communicate major announcements. At that point it’s like you’ve given up on your own platform.

SomeRandomWords,

I personally just started using Owntracks, which is a standalone location tracker. There is also Traccar which I looked into but opted not to make use of.

Some people use it as a Find My replacement, I personally make use of it as a Google Maps Timeline replacement (and have imported my previous data as a result) as well as for Tile tracker location history (which I’ve got custom scripted currently).

SomeRandomWords,

Good point, it doesn’t appear to be. Might be good to drop a note on GitHub (or their contact method of choice) so they can set that flag.

Edit: I just went and sent them a mention on Mastodon. I noticed it’s an admin account so I wonder if Lemmy lets both flags be set at once.

SomeRandomWords,

Wait since when does a tilde mean high availability?

SomeRandomWords,

Yup, there was a very well known case covered on an early episode of Mayday / Air Crash Investigation (like season 1) about this. A lot of people got to watch the same terrifying view as the pilots as their plane plummeted from the sky.

SomeRandomWords,

After a while you just get used to the fact that your license plate is going to be bent at the very bottom if it doesn’t have a plastic holder behind it.

SomeRandomWords,

That’s a popular enough opinion that it’s being worked on and should be coming soon.

SomeRandomWords,

Can we consider this an open and obvious secret? They’re DDoSing that instance not because they think it’ll take everyone down, but because it’ll take down the most number of people with the least amount of effort.

Services resume after over 1,000 trapped in train near Tokyo (mainichi.jp)

YOKOHAMA (Kyodo) -- Services resumed Sunday after over 1,000 passengers were trapped for nearly two hours in a train Saturday night near Tokyo, with some complaining of heatstroke and hyperventilation after it crashed into a power pole that had fallen onto the tracks, local authorities said.

SomeRandomWords,

They don’t call it the Orange Line because of the color of the trains, instead it’s because when they’re actually running you see can see the orange flames! /s

In fairness the new ones don’t catch fire nearly as often as the old ones did.

What non-FOSS software are you using that you wish you could replace?

For me its honestly a ton of my work software (digital forensics), shit is too niche to be replaced by good FOSS options. Cellebrite, Magnet Axiom, etc. Autopsy is great and free and has a linux version but it simply cannot get the same level of data without a pretty nutty level of custom code....

SomeRandomWords,

Definitely agree with this one, though I will say you can replace one proprietary bit of software (Microsoft Office) with another (Google Drive/Docs) and get a large portion of the way in some industries. Really depends on what you need to do.

But alas, still no widely accepted FOSS alternatives.

SomeRandomWords,

I personally used Connect for a long time (currently trialing Sync) and honestly it’s a fine client for Lemmy. The really nice thing is that there are so many apps, you can start a Hunger Games out of them and narrow down to the one you like the most. That’s how I got to Connect after starting with all of the maintained Android apps a month ago.

SomeRandomWords,

Upvoted not because you’re right, but because you realized you were wrong and will hopefully inspire others to look up the meanings behind phrases they read on the internet.

I also needed a refresher.

SomeRandomWords,

It’s incredible how low of a bar that is, yet tons of people still don’t know how to clean their ass after they shit.

SomeRandomWords,

As someone who has very little experience with ActivityPub but is always interested in learning more, what’s the risk of "burn"ing a domain? Does it come from certs or signatures changing on the same domain, causing it to no longer be accepted or something?

SomeRandomWords,

Also a fellow ex-Bacon Reader user, same deal. So far I’m using Connect for Lemmy to try to get a similar feel, what app are you using?

SomeRandomWords,

Yeah I haven’t figured out the story yet for deleted comments, I can see your deleted comment (with a note saying it was deleted) from programming.dev and lemmy.blahaj.zone.

SomeRandomWords,

I’ve never heard of StreetComplete before but I’m always up for another crowdsourcing app. It looks like it’s this one on GitHub and I think this is their website?

Really dumb question, but do they have an anonymous/unregistered mode or do you also need an OSM account?

SomeRandomWords,

I want to use wefwef but I just can’t get past the fact that it looks like a single page app designed exclusively for iOS. I think it’s the permanent back button which you basically never see on Android because it has a dedicated back button/action.

SomeRandomWords,

I’m “out” in that I’m married and will tell people I have a husband, but I’m also not “out out” in that I don’t straight up tell people I’m gay unless they ask. My policy has always been that if people really want to know, they can ask. I don’t see a need to go around shouting from the rooftops, I mean straight people don’t do that, do they (usually)?
