ShunkW,

Tell me you didn’t even click the link without telling me you didn’t even click the fucking link.

ShunkW,

You… You shut your whore mouth. We don’t talk about xml here

ShunkW,

We went to a screening of The Room that Tommy Wiseau was supposed to do a Q&A after. He didn’t show either. Probably for the best cuz we were mocking it the whole time and throwing plastic spoons at the screen.

Can anyone else feel sensations in their brain?

Last time I checked there aren’t nerve endings in our brain, so it should be impossible to feel sensations in my brain. However, at random times during my life, like seeing the plot twist in Fight Club for example, I’ve felt feelings in my brain. I just felt it again now while doing some intense introspection, and I just...

ShunkW,

Brain zaps are the worst thing ever. I had to go off of effexor because I’m bipolar and had my first manic episode while on it. I looked like a crazy person for a while. I mean, I am a crazy person, but you can’t tell that up front lol.

ShunkW,

If my old coworkers find my account, oh well. I work in software engineering. At my old job I found an employee named “The Angel of Ephesus”. No joke. His legal last name was “Ephesus”, first name “The Angel Of”. Dude had lots of paranoid postings all over the Internet. Glad he didn’t live near me, and I had no reason to ever interact with him.

The only reason I found him was because we had an issue syncing employee names after a name change was completed in the HR system. We had to do a one time update after we fixed the bug.

ShunkW,

Imagine dragon deez nuts across your face. Gottem

ShunkW,

I was way too old when I learned that you should ask if someone wants advice or just wants to vent. “Are we fixing or bitching?” is what I ask my best friend nowadays and it’s made us less likely to butt heads when one of us just wants to talk shit to get it out.

ShunkW,

Yeah I guess it depends on the person you’re talking to. Most people I’ve asked the question will usually laugh and say, “we’re bitching right now.”

I respond with, “bitch away.”

ShunkW,

They literally called Trump a cartoonish villain lol.

ShunkW,

Suits. It’s insanely unrealistic, full of nonsense drama for no reason, and just has some of the most insane bullshit. But God damn was it a fun show to watch.

ShunkW,

I mean, box breathing like you described works because you’re depriving yourself of oxygen briefly lol. Causes blood pressure and anxiety and stuff to lower.

ShunkW,

Yes. I got 3 days in alternative school for getting punched because “I was in a fight”. The next time I made it worth it and fought back instead of just trying to avoid being hit.

ShunkW,

My parents and I don’t speak at all. They’re very Mormon, and I’m incredibly gay. I was excommunicated at 15 and kicked out of my home - living out of a car (illegally) or on friends’ couches. My mom still occasionally reaches out to me and tries to explain that if I just don’t act on my “urges” then I can be part of the family again. So uh, yeah.

It’s made it very difficult to rely on anyone or really trust people in general.

ShunkW,

Until you get into image/video/file hosting, it’s very cheap. So long as people are ok with off-site storage usage, then it shouldn’t cost much at all.

Merch is a pretty big risk, or at least was when I was doing it for bands. I know there are solutions for on demand creation now that might be more feasible

ShunkW,

I’m pretty convinced this was just a marketing ploy

ShunkW,

When you go in for a job interview, I think a good thing to ask is if they ever press charges.

ShunkW,

You can get trinkets made from the skins of older, real airplanes.

They could be a cool collection starter and they’re shiny

ShunkW,

You could talk to a doctor about prazosin. It’s a blood pressure drug that stops dreams for some unknown reason. I have PTSD nightmares and will take it for a week or so when they crop up again. Just something to consider

ShunkW,

Don’t go to a dealer. It will be more expensive. That being said, you don’t really need many tools to do an oil change except a ratchet - which most people already have if they’re handy at all, and an oil filter wrench - I got mine for like $5 at an auto parts store. Wait for a sale on a bulk amount of oil that fits your car and just keep it in the garage or elsewhere.

I’m not super handy, but I’ve generally been able to save $10-$20 on each change over the years when I still drove. Plus the time component once you get the hang of it. I could change mine in about 20 minutes in my driveway.

ShunkW,

That last point is interesting. I’ve never had an issue getting filters for my old accord. What year civic did you have the issue on? My cabin filters on that car were about 1/3 the cost to get it replaced unless it was bundled into other maintenance. Even then I still saved some money. Maybe it’s an issue of where we’re both located or something? I’m not sure.

ShunkW,

Gotcha. I had a '13 Accord that I bought on a lease return. Bummer you got a lemon. Pretty unusual for a Honda in my experience.

ShunkW,

I have seen this to be fair (although 30 is a bit hyperbolic), and if it’s not a community that interests me, I block it and move on. I don’t get big mad about it and go cry into the ether.

ShunkW,

Excessive sugar intake doesn’t cause diabetes though.

ShunkW,

It can, but excessive sugar intake cannot directly cause diabetes is all. It’s much more complex than that.

ShunkW,

I’ve not had this particular issue. What frustrates me is that autoplay seems to play videos from only one channel. I like the channel, but even if it’s not related to the last video that ended it’ll still auto play that channel.

The channel is No Rolls Barred which is a board game channel. I’ll be watching a science related video and boom, board games. It’s annoying.

ShunkW,

Stick to Columbus and Cleveland. Cincy is pretty wealthy right in my experience. Everywhere else just kinda sucks tbh.

ShunkW,

Don’t worry. Many lawmakers in Ohio have already said they’ll immediately overrule it via legislation. Dunno the legality of what they’ve said, but I wouldn’t put it past them.

ShunkW,

Insight global is an alright company if you go the contracting route. They were one of the few that would actually get involved when there were issues with the client.

Contracting is tough right now with the limited options and the very volatile market, at least in the US. I’m about to be unemployed at the end of November unless I can find something.

Financial institutions are very regulated and it is usually a pretty solid job to have - I did 5 years at JPMC and 2 at Huntington. But beware they’ll fuck you over if you ever refuse to toe the line or want an actual work life balance.

ShunkW,

In my limited understanding, deaths aren’t tracked the same way that births generally are. After birth, you receive a social security number in the United States. This is a federal identification. When you die, that notification may not extend past a local level, leaving the social security number valid.

This is all second hand info though, so take it with a grain of salt.

ShunkW,

My battery life on my 6 pro has been garbage for a while now. It’s fine if connected to WiFi, but any time I’m on Mobile data, I see a 10% drop in an hour with very, very limited screen time.

This is a bummer to hear because I was hoping an upgrade to an 8 would resolve the issue.

Which YouTuber's voice can lull you to sleep?

I’ve exhausted things I can sleep to on Netflix, and it’s literally impossible to sleep to things on Prime (so I barely watch anything there; it’s not worth falling asleep to something I like, since I might be punished for it), so I’ve started putting on YouTube in the evenings since it won’t wake me with silence at...

ShunkW,

I miss old NL before he was always interacting with twitch chat. I get why he made the move, and I like a lot of his newer content, but I feel like he was funnier when he was just bullshitting to himself

ShunkW,

StezStix Fix has a soothing channel where he fixes electronics.

ShunkW,

Only restaurants in my experience. Most stores here don’t have public bathrooms.

ShunkW,

Yeah that’s what I was saying. I think it’s any place that serves prepared food or drink is required here in Ohio. But I think they can restrict use to customers only.

ShunkW,

You can use the + trick without issue. Not that I would know.

ShunkW,

Because alcohol isn’t directly addictive

This is absolute nonsense. Alcohol is one of only two addictive substance types that can directly kill you in withdrawal. It is DIRECTLY and EXTREMELY addictive.

If your addiction is severe enough, going cold turkey from alcohol or benzodiazepines can directly kill you. You can have a stroke or seizures.

ShunkW,

Habit forming and addiction are two different things entirely. Addiction is dependency.

ShunkW,

Nope. Still not a reasonable statement. Alcohol is habit forming and addictive. I dunno why you keep trying to play semantics with nonsense arguments honestly.

ShunkW,

Did I say it was habit forming to the same degree? You claimed it wasn’t habit forming at all. You’re wrong.

ShunkW,

You have zero clue what you’re talking about.

15 years of Android memories – When did you get your first Android phone? (blog.google)

My first one was a Samsung Galaxy S1 that I got in 2013 and it was a great little device that was easy to open up and repair. It had only 512MB of RAM but that was plenty for basic phone needs, web browsing and running some Android apps like AnkiDroid at the time.

ShunkW,

Same. It wasn’t a great phone coming from a BlackBerry. The HTC G2 is what cemented me as an android user.

Tried the major brands and have been a pixel user since the 4.

ShunkW,

Showing up 14 minutes to close with a large order is evil.

ShunkW,

To me it doesn’t matter. Having worked in kitchens, we’re usually trying to get a head start on cleaning 15 minutes to close. I just think it’s rude to order that close to closing time.

ShunkW,

Yeah fortunately we didn’t need to do any port forwarding or anything complex for networking for developing locally. It was definitely much easier for us. I don’t like Apple, but I didn’t mind my other old job that gave us MacBooks honestly.
