Saw that meme a while back, yes. You’re correct and then some.

Not having kids, but maybe some links to help others out?

TBF = To Be Frank or To Be Fair??? BIG GRUMPY!

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

My girlfriend just stores me wearing handcuffs in the trunk alone. Regular Thursday.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

👏 this guy’s asking the real questions here.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

To be GRUMPY, you seem fair.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, very angrily discovered this the other day while filling up my bike. Ear plugs go right back in, in spite of needing the break.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Came across differently in your initial comment.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Fucking pissbabies, I swear. And these cop fucks think we’re gonna forget how much we laughed at them?? Those videos were funny and a lot more gentle than they had to be.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Don’t dump on 12yr olds, they’re smarter than this 2 watt incandescent.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

That’s fucking great, I love this movie

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Otoh… Kinda sad that somebody tried to do the thing they wanted and instead fell to earth as soon as that rolled up degree touched their hands.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, 3060 and Wayland/gnome act funny after resuming the machine from sleep while connected to a second display.

  • Some applications, e.g. Firefox will not update properly after a resume when screen config has been changed while asleep. That is, if I undock my laptop and then resume, Firefox won’t visibly scroll or change, but buttons invisibly move which I know because where the mouse cursor changes when hovering changes after playing with the scroll wheel. Only fix is killing Firefox and restarting. Maybe it’s a snap thing.
  • On resume, wallpaper for gdm is painted on secondary monitor while laptop display stays dark, even though that’s where the login prompt etc is. A quick close/open of the laptop lid forces the main display to come back online.

Fellow Moto guy, I agree with all this and am glad you made it ok.

RubberElectrons,

I miss NYC for this reason alone, among a few other reasons. I used to walk and bike everywhere, didn’t even need the MTA.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Life’s been nice here. It was uncomfortable losing all the stuff I’d subbed, the content was slim when I first switched… But I knew it would be.

You adjust, you find new things to enjoy around here even when you lose things that as yet have no replacement from Reddit.

But I’m serious about the need for privacy and escaping ads. I have no regrets.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Why? Scabs give a lot less of a shit about quality, and we’re taking about a 4000lb (1800kg) vehicle at highway speeds.

Think about that, aside from wanting regular folks to succeed while working for a wealthy, well-lawyered multinational car corporation.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Wow, that sounds like a pretty important discovery, especially from a now disabled nasa mission!

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

What do you mean, “what”. That only now we’ve found enough data from the defunct insight system to determine what’s happened with the core of Mars? That Mars’ core is still liquid? That’s what.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t think this is a good faith understanding of what’s happening, as ‘acab’ is pretty clear to the American pubic at large. We’ve all, all, experienced very negative, low quality officers in our life. Hit by a taxi on my bike, cop saw and slowly drove away while we locked eyes? Completely fake ticket for ‘running a red’ on my bicycle, which photographic evidence showed was impossible in court? Officer putting his hand on his pistol when my mom needed to get my dumb diabetic ass some emergency juice in a “no parking zone”? Yes, just from personal experience.

Enough of us, that we’ve all collectively agreed that it’s safe to assume “all cops are bastards” when forced to interact with them.

While I appreciate the bravery in opposing such a heartfelt sentiment by a large portion of the American general public, the reasoning behind said sentiment is pretty clear, and the seeming lack of understanding is suspect.

To anyone out there reading these comments: in spite of other people laying out clear evidence to the contrary, this person still insists on bigging up hydrogen.

When you buy or lease a Mirai from Toyota, they include 5 free rentals so that you can leave my state of California. Don’t forget: hydrogen gas escapes a lot more easily than gasoline fumes or electrons. Consider how expensive doing something like that safely and reliably actually must be, vs plugging your car right into a wall outlet (for admittedly slow charging).

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Could be that it’s just general death and mayhem in your lyrics vs targeted, destructive lyrics about how a certain particular outgroup is “demonic”.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Nah man, let’s hash it out: if your song is about attacking something other people don’t really have a choice in, say skin color, orientation, or health conditions, I’d say it falls under speech that should be shamed.

People just want to live without really having to fight to exist, and I support that idea.

Wondering the same thing. Slight loss of detail but still successfully gets the gist of the original data.

For that matter, how does the poisoning hold up against regular old jpg compression?

Eta: read the paper, they account for this in section 7. It seems pretty robust on paper, by the time you’ve smoothed out the perturbed pixels, youve also smoothed out the image to where the end result is a bit of a murky mess.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Just to start with, not very experienced with neural networks at all beyond messing with openCV for my graduation project.

Anyway, that these countermeasures expose “failure modes” in the training isn’t a great reason to stop doing this, e.g. scammers come up with a new technique, we collectively respond with our own countermeasures.

If the network feedbacks itself, then cool! It has developed its own style, which is fine. The goal is to stop people from outright copying existing artists style.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

There’s a lot of interesting detail to your side of the discussion I may not yet have the knowledge of. How does the eye see? We find edges, gradients, repeating patterns which become textures, etc etc… But our systems can be misdirected, see the blue/yellow dress for example. NNsbhave the luxury of being rapidly iterated I guess, compared to our lifespans.

I’m asking questions I don’t know answers to here: if the only source of input data for a network is subtly corrupted, won’t that guarantee corrupted output as well? I don’t see how one can “train out” the corruption which misdirects the network without access to some pristine data.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not naive enough to believe this is foolproof, but I do want to understand why this technique doesn’t actually work, and by extension better understand how training a nn actually works.

He’s got ‘flunk’ in the username, and speaks correspondingly. Keep up the good info fight.

There’s a lot to dislike about systemd, and some things to like. Most big Linux distributions are using it now; in regards to this comment though, systemd is a fast executable trying to handle many core system jobs at once. Instead of Cron, openRC startup scripts, networkmanager for networking… Systemd is trying to do it all.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

The point is being missed. We shouldn’t use pfas for convenience items like pans and such. If we keep them well contained in EV batteries, that’s probably ok.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

There’s that unfortunate modification to “those who don’t learn history are doomed to repeat it”:

Those who do learn history are doomed to watch others repeat it

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Oh I already do. Not a fan of Israel’s kind of shaky interpretation of the Torah for why holding Gaza is ‘approved’, and very very against Hamas as an entity even before all this stuff in October 2023.

It’s a tricky thing, having a possible enemy right at your gates for years and years. For the sake of example, what if Russia as we know it was where Canada currently is? How does one remain calm when there are those plotting right in front of you?

Those civilians on both sides don’t deserve any of this.

Phishing Mails (lemmy.world)

This will be a quick post. We have received a phishing mail to our [email protected] mail address telling that they are “lemmy.world Security Team”, telling that they will “disconnect” your account from our instance. This is ofc, not us. Do not fall for it! The attached image is how the mail looks like....

RubberElectrons,

That sounds so crazy, who was it? What happened?

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Calm down man, at least on the second point. Having a kid is essentially a one-way ticket, let’s encourage people being sure they can be a quality parent.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Yep, I agree with this. Ask what their training programs are like, do they offer opportunities to learn and grow? Certifications help, but actually being able to do stuff correctly and with understanding is far far more critical.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Yep, no reason to work otherwise. All I’m saying is, see what the company’s managerial philosophy is like by asking gentle but probing questions:

  • Do they want to empower their workers to improve, thus improving how the company functions long term?
  • Or, are they a churn and burn operation, focused on max output for minimum pay?

Most companies are somewhere in-between, and that’s the thing to figure out. Just my opinion though.

We call it east jersey in a mean spirited way, but even Newark was less crazy than some shit I’ve seen in SI

I’m trying to find a way out of cheese. No luck yet, and I can’t really afford the analogs either way.

Gave up meat though, so I’m happy so far. Let’s see what clever scientists come up with for the rest 😎

Yes, I’m using libreelec, I and friends control the display from our phones using the Kore app. Makes searching and typing easy, works great on my Pi. Fun game, which of you will select a movie first on your phones lol.

Note: pi3B can do 1080p but it struggles a little if the codec is anything other than h264, because Kodi decided to stop supporting closed source drivers. If you’re playing anything above 1080 and anything other than h264, go for a pi 4 or better.

Just give me some notice you’re passing me, that was always my fucking gripe with the food delivery guys in NYC. They just show up in your periphery and scare the fuck outta you. Ring a bell! Say hello! I’ll say hello back! Goodbye!

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

Oh I’d never even heard of that second site haha.

RubberElectrons,
@RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

I’d been a lurker for almost a decade, and had noticed the quiet variation in post/community “quality” over that time… I’d kinda wondered where everyone else went too.

RubberElectrons,

We’ve probably got about 10yrs of normalcy left. Economically, we’re already deviating. Greed is what destroyed us all.

RubberElectrons,

Car or candle wax worked for my glasses in blizzards. I tried those booties that slip over your shoes for wet/snow riding. They’re effective, but you put holes in them as they’re effectively thick plastic bags with zippers.

For real cold, wet rides: neoprene socks. Your feet stay warm and dry, but your shoes won’t.
