What the article doesn’t mention is that the train driver/engineer was worried that the terrain under the tracks was weakened by the weather and rain. The driver got in touch with the command centre and they agreed to the suggestion of lowering the train’s speed, which meant that the derailment wasn’t as dangerous or critical as it could have been otherwise.
Also, the brook Susabäck (bäck = brook) is not a river. It is a brook. “The rustling brook river” sounds like “DVD disc”.
Yes, sarcasm. There are plenty of smaller news sites, but (at least in Sweden) many are struggling due to lack of paid subscribers or ad revenue, not due to explaining whether they have tracking or third party cookies.
In order to be accurate, most of the news communities want the headline of the post to be the same as the one in the article. And as the news sites use “slam”, well…
Go by the study. And then if there are other studies, look at the combination of them. Ignore the articles speculations, they do not undermine a study that was supposed to look at “how much micro and nano particles of plastics are released and we’re subjected to when microwaving food in plastic containers”.
WHY YSK- Many people practice mindfulness and meditation as part of their lives, and some would like to but feel like they don’t have time to sit down and meditate properly. Once you’ve gotten used to doing it as a part of your daily activities, it becomes easy to simply take a few breaths and gain some peace from your...
I disagree regarding lying down for bed. Never teach your body to associate the relaxation of meditation with sleep. Unless you only need it for immediately before you sleep to calm your mind.
I can now have mindfulness while doing activities (not driving ofc). Your body will do what you teach it, and I’ve stopped falling asleep meditating when I removed it from bedtime.
Mindfulness for me, now, is to be aware of myself and my surroundings. It started with meditation during a one year chronic pain remedy program, and helped with learning to deal with all the noise that comes up (pain, stress, intrusive thoughts). To not ignore them, but to observe them. Detach myself somewhat and just “look” at it. This helped me to eventually do this during monotonous activities: brushing my teeth, doing dishes, combing cats, vacuuming, even emptying litter boxes. Then to external activities where I am observing the things outside and inside me: waiting in line, sitting on the bus, hiking, drinking tea at a café.
When I exit the state I feel a bit more refreshed. If I need more, and have the ability, I will go and sit in my favourite spot and meditate deeper.
Not in any way surprising, pretty much every square inch of viable land on the British isles has probably been lived on within the last 2000 - 3000 years.
We have similar discoveries in the south of Sweden, we joke that “you can’t throw a rock in a field or forest without hitting ancient ruins and relics”.
Edit: Apparently I didn’t RTFA, this is about farmWORKERS, not farmers. My point still stands about farms and agricultural practices further down. However, a scale of agriculture that requires extremely low paid, often illegal work force with no rights, is not a sustainable practice either.
The main issue is that you need a serious scale of operations to be able to earn money from agricultural practices, and that leads to a fairly monocultural crop, subsidies for certain crops and cog-in-the-wheel operations. So it is already heavily affected by industrial corporations. This is not just true for the US, it’s like this in the most part of the developed world. So the “family farms” tend to get outcompeted even when the farmers are pretty much working round the clock, and still with decreasing rewards and increasing loans while they have occasional crop failures. So it doesn’t surprise me if the next generation wants to experience life that isn’t a constant toil.
There are already “hobby farms” as well, not only run by rich people with horses and McMansions.
And then there is a homesteading movement, where families go the other way. They want to escape the rat race and settle down, have more time with their kids and be self-sufficient. Some even do it in an extremely frugal way, some in an eco way with permaculture instead of monoculture. Some are even ex-farmer progeny who want to get back to their roots in a smaller scale.

Sorry for the stupid question: I know that I could search it up on the internet, but how was it a roll? Looked like folded bread/banh mi/bao with a few sauced lobster bits up on top. Was it before the pre-roll?
Dead-easy, they aren’t locked to a permanent object, just move them behind the car, and then they’ll neither be stolen nor your fault if someone else parks their hoods into the bikes. Move the offending bikes past the car

There are two more spoons I lack in this collection. But no, I just like this series as it’s semi-retro, and I thrift it at second hand stores and at auction sites.
I was joking otherwise, just wanted to throw my punch in this discussion. :D
Omg, I just found out there are two more forks I don’t have! Going to waste a month tracking them down… (Ignore me, this reignited my sometimes-pastime of completing my cutlery, just wanted to share some of my joy.)
The long ass skinny one is great for pickle jars on the dining table. We love pickles.
The herring one, well, it’s called “sillgaffel” in Swedish. We do use it when we eat pickled herring, but also for olives and other small delicacies served in small bowls instead of using tooth picks to pick them out.
The “sandwich” one is accompanied by a “sandwich” knife, and are intended to be used for appetizers, and according to an older friend, single sandwiches with ham and (sometimes melted) cheese would be served as appetizers occasionally.
There are dessert forks as well, but they are rare. There are proper crustacean forks too that I would like, as they’d be useful.
There also are supposed to exist fish forks (and fish knives) in the series as well, but I kind of stop before that.

The sign that states times for free parking can look like this: Parking sign.
My parking disc is digital and once I set the current time and date it’s supposed to be a set-and-forget as it automatically sets the (rounded up) time to when I arrived: Automatic parking disc
In large parts of Europe, the onus is on the car driver/owner to follow the parking rules, either the common street ones or the privately owned ones.
I can’t remember the exact time I parked any more, but let’s say I parked at 10:25. If I had a manual parking disc/timer, I would have set the time manually to 10:30. Then I would have been able to park for two hours from the time on my parking disc/timer.
My automatic timer had crept forward for some weeks, so when I parked it rounded off to one hour later, 11:30, which I didn’t think of to check.
When the parking attendant went by my car, he/she looked at the current time, and the time my parking disc/timer showed was one hour later than the current time. And as they don’t show date of parking, I was in the wrong for
a) having parked there the previous day, or
b) having set the time wrong on purpose, which is also a finable offense.
The automatic ones have to be approved to be legal, there is a limited set of models that are approved in different countries, and they’re recognizable. Plus, parking attendants can take pictures and see if the car is in the same position with a new time when they pass by an hour later.
However, there exist battery driven parking discs that look like normal manual ones, that you set the time manually and then it adjusts every half hour. These are illegal though, and you’ll get fined and possibly even charged legally for using them if discovered.
It’s also illegal to go back to your car every X hours to move the manual disc time forward if the car isn’t moved.

There is one thing about it being voluntary to create. But they’re pushing YT Shorts down both content creators and viewers throats.
As a former teacher and mentor, I agree with the thought to make content more interesting and digestible for the younger generation. What I don’t agree with is packaging everything into mindless kick-rewarding (dopamine hitting) bits, like Candy Crush, One armed bandits or Tik Tok videos.
If you package too much study content into this kind of easily digestible and forgettable bits, you have to remember: it flows out from their minds almost as fast as they spent the effort to see it… maybe it lasted longer if they shared it with their friends/network, but the lesson you wanted them to absorb will mostly disappear faster than the time it took you to create it.
We work (and should work) to create (at least some) lasting impressions that educate. The most memorable moment that one of my study groups had with one of their “cool TikTok and Fortnite savvy” teachers was when they did candy flossing after it stopped being cool. What lessons he taught? They couldn’t remember if it was English or Math.
Yeah, the easiest option for Google/YT would be to keep Shorts to the Shorts category only/mainly, and keep the ability for users to opt out of Shorts in the platform’s players. That way, creators who want to push 5 to 30 second videos instead of 10 - 200 minutes would still get their 15 minutes seconds of fame.
But now, they aren’t just pushing Shorts on us viewers, they are forcing channels to do Shorts to get better visibility.
