NathanielThomas,

It’s so absurd that some professions are so devalued, at least in certain timelines in history. Scribes are now considered practically worthless, though in ancient times they held high degrees of respect as scholars.

Now it’s middlemen who writers with projects who take the lion’s share of the money, despite accomplishing little else. They have no inherent skills beyond connecting person A with person B.

NathanielThomas,

Thank goodness the system works. Michael is an absolute scumbag.

NathanielThomas,

It is. They’re attributing the quote to Steve Barclay. But they’re aware that they’re also editorializing and endorsing the comment.

NathanielThomas,

I’ve become certain that passwords and captchas are only there to deter real people not robots

As a 14-year long user, the new Fisher Price UI makes me sad :( What have they done to you, Reddit? (i.imgur.com)

Notice there is only 1 full headline (from /r/NoStupidQuestions) visible, it doesn’t even show the full post. There are 3 of those “trending” boxes but only 2 of those even fit their headlines because they are like 3 words long, they cut off anything longer including the description...

NathanielThomas,

For some reason, every UI developer thinks we need round boxes to browse any lists. Look at browsing TV shows on Amazon Prime, Disney, Crave TV, Netflix… they’re all repeating boxes like we’re toddlers who are unable to skim more streamlined content.

NathanielThomas,

I failed a captcha repeatedly until I discovered you can listen to a description and then enter it. Visually I could not figure out what I was looking at

NathanielThomas,

Lotteries fund government programs and services.

They’re more a tax on greedy stupid people.

NathanielThomas,

yeah it’s called taxes lol

NathanielThomas,

Disney has very little worth paying for unless you’re a parent. I won’t be paying higher prices.

Why were we able to stamp out Nazism but not the Taliban?

It occurred to me that Nazi ideology was entrenched in the German people from as early as the 1920s and officially since 1933 to 1945. You’d think that such a systemic worldview would be difficult to eradicate but it would seem Nazism was quickly removed after the Allies and Russians conquered them....

NathanielThomas,

I mean, the question would be who qualifies as a Nazi? The Nuremburg trials did execute the leadership. Others who were in the SS or SA were imprisoned.

But you couldn’t kill the rank and file or that would be potentially killing soldiers just following orders.

NathanielThomas,

By the time they implement a 4-day work week it will feel like we need to do a 3-day work week. We’ve been stuck in a 5-day cycle for generations now and trying to break those chains is going to take a monumental push.

Honestly, none of it even matters. The whole thing is a gigantic social construct. We could work 1 day a week and it wouldn’t matter except to rich people.

NathanielThomas,

and we all see how that went

How did it go?

NathanielThomas,

I’d love to get an E-Bike. Unfortunately I just don’t have a place to store it. My car won’t get stolen from the parkade but an E-Bike might?

NathanielThomas,

Everyone thinking Canadians are bilingual but it’s just we were forced to take french in school and can now say “ou est le supermarche?” and that’s it.

NathanielThomas,

Undesirable? The system is working as designed. The world is $59 trillion in debt to ITSELF. Which makes no sense.

NathanielThomas,

What qualifies as reckless though? I mean, I needed to use my CC for a German vacation. I don’t have $3k idly sitting around.

Seeing the world and going on vacation is a necessity, otherwise what’s the purpose of life?

NathanielThomas,

I think you’ll find Bavarians are very much a unilingual people

NathanielThomas,

A bad rendition of Hochdeutsch, an incomprehensible dialect of bayrisch and hello and goodbye in English

NathanielThomas,

I remember using Napster and playing all these songs on Winamp on my computer in 1998. Amazing how all these years later music access is more restrictive, not easier.

NathanielThomas,

James Woods in Vampires (1998). The idea of harpooning and dragging vampires into the sun was hilarious. Like fishing.

NathanielThomas,

Armageddon needed the Don’t Look Up ending

NathanielThomas,

Yeah it’s just my forever go-to. It just is so disappointing that such an overwhelmingly successful series has been ignored by Bethesda for so long. 2016 should have been the next TES series, not just a resale. Same with AE.

NathanielThomas,

Nothing like making a 9 billion dollar tunnel

NathanielThomas,

Lemmy is awesome… when it’s up. Which feels like never? Server uptime of 85% is brutal.

NathanielThomas,

Reminds me of Google when it took over from Yahoo-Altavista. And then the money came and they’re Dr. Evil cookie cutter Corpo scum

NathanielThomas,

Go to Saidit then. They’re all Nazis with literal racial slurs and conspiracy theorists.

NathanielThomas,

and not just chucking my thoughts into space and hoping they land on a planet.

That’s Twitter/X

NathanielThomas,

And for now, I still have to use reddit for them

But you were banned from them right?

Right? That’s why we’re all here?

NathanielThomas,

One of Reddit’s biggest issues is mods controlling dozens of subreddits. So that means it feels a lot like corporate America where one company has their editorial say in everything.

NathanielThomas,

So it’s Lemmy.world, not all the servers

NathanielThomas,

Rent is inherently predatory and exploitative because it’s usually a commodity in a scarce housing market where the landowners can charge prices that generate a large profit margin over what it cost them. For example, a person who pays $1,500 a month to the bank for mortgage may be able to rent that out at twice the price, and usually to people who are economically insecure.

NathanielThomas,

I feel like this argument falls flat in the current bubble market where you can triple your housing investment in five years. I bought my condo in 2017 for $360,000 and today it’s worth $550,000. Even with property taxes, renovations, insurance, etc etc, I have made a killing on buying this property.

Your argument might make sense in a recessionary market like the 2008 subprime meltdown.

NathanielThomas,

Having social housing or low-cost rental housing owned by the government with an option to purchase does not sound at all bad. My partner lived in England and her nan was in council housing. When she died my partner had an option to buy but didn’t. That house is in one of the most coveted locations in the city now.

NathanielThomas,

But isn’t this because nobody cares? HIs voters are convinced he’s innocent and nothing’s going to happen to him.

NathanielThomas,

I feel like this tree symbolizes a lot about our species. It reminds me of the Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein.

NathanielThomas,

Das stimmt lol. Ich möchte mein Wasser Biologiefrei zu trinken.

NathanielThomas,

Weirdly, I feel like the best argument to free will comes from Dr. Malcolm (famously acted in a pervy way by Jeff Goldblum) who talked about chaos theory. Complex systems have an underlying order. But also, the reverse of that is true, in that simple systems can lead to complex behaviour. Or to borrow a subreddit term, “never tell me the odds.”

NathanielThomas,

It’s not Google but my partner works for a post secondary institution and they charge her for parking on campus. It’s not much ($10 a month) but over a year that’s $120 per employee which is a clawback on your compensation.

NathanielThomas,

It’s because they were all banned by the mods

NathanielThomas,

The idea or fantasy of it can be fun. The question is, once the semen is drying on your wife’s face and you go to kiss her again are you going to be able to handle it? Once the excitement has worn off and you’ve lived out your fantasy and had your “post-nut clarity” are you still cool with it?

If so, great! This is the best part of consenting adults having a good time.

But sometimes our fantasies don’t co-exist well with our reality. You may end up with trust issues or jealousy or feel that you made a mistake and all you’ve done is risk your entire relationship on it. I mean, there’s a joke in a Seinfeld episode where they’re enjoying discussing the fantasy of a threesome but when it comes right down to it, Jerry is like “I’m not an orgy guy!”

However, if you and your wife genuinely enjoy, are comfortable with, and continue to get off on cuck sex, I don’t see a problem.

NathanielThomas,

It’s a big porn trope, mainly because most cuck porn involves two white people where the man plays the “too small for his wife” role and the woman plays the “I really want a black man” role. In some instances the man is shocked, ashamed, and in other he’s turned on, and in the really submissive cuck porn fantasies he takes on a gay role.

NathanielThomas,

I don’t know but I watched a live stream on Twitch and it looks a hell of a lot like Divinity Original Sin 3, which makes sense because it’s Larian.

NathanielThomas,

At least Americans are consistent. I think Canadians are the most confused.
