Any chance it could also redirect based on current user load as well? This is the sort of load balance that fedi needs to implement at the base project pages to combat the initial 'where do I sign up?' question.
I started Hyperion by Dan Simmons last week and it has been a bit of a slog to get into it. The world building is fantastic, the scifi concepts are next level, but the way the writing style changes during each characters recounting of their time on Hyperion is disorienting and takes a while to get back up to reading it at a normal speed if that makes sense. I'd recommend it to any true scifi fan at this point, but my opinion is still in limbo on whether I like it... I'll let y'all know later.
I had to take a break from it and read the second Murderbot novella Artificial Condition, which was an excellent distraction. :)
That's kind of sad. I read Chindi by Jack McDevitt years ago, only to find out later that it was smack in the middle of a series. I remember enjoying it though.
According to StoryGraph that one is #7 in the "Culture" series. How tightly are the books integrated, do you need to read them in order? Would you recommend starting at #1?
How 'serious' of a campaign? My friends and I always have the most ridiculous events in our campaigns and that is what makes them fun. I dunno if I could do it with serious roles. :D
Personally, I don’t get it. Foot rub sounds nice, but like not THAT nice. But I posted on a dermatology sub once and my DM’s blew up asking my gender. Just from dudes though. Are there some women who are perhaps more quietly excited by feet though? Random thought as I sit here grinding off my cracked heels…
I'm confused, I didn't think foot fetish was common among men either? There is definitely a niche for everyone on the internet, but I was not aware that it was a common place interest.
Most of the communities I'm interested in are on lemmy.world, programming.dev, etc where they have a large activity there, but the UI/UX of kbin is what's holding me here....
I've noticed that some communities will be in sync and up to date with the /kbin magazine, but some are hours, even weeks, behind and I don't know what the difference is. This discrepancy is present even on the same instance like lemmynsfw, where one community is up to date, but another community hasn't synced in weeks.
My only problem with picking up Apple TV for scifi is that all these shows are in their infancy. Most are only 1 season, and that hardly feels like enough motivation to start the show knowing there could just never be a second season. Netflix burned me with good shows getting cancelled and I can't motivate myself to start something with less than 2 seasons.
Ehhhh, they left several loose threads dangling in the wind...
There is a whole book about the planet with the fauna that brings organic tissue back to life. They just shut the door and called it a day.
Also, they barely touched the storyline of mass being lost with gate use.
They would have to pick up the pace a lot.
It might be a few seasons before they get there at this pace. The entire first season happens in the first few chapters of book 1...
I'm working on an activism campaign kicking off next week opposing some bad internet bills in the US -- here's the magazine I just set up. Once things get going, we'll be sharing links there including information and actions people can take....
The same will happen with Relay for Reddit soon too. DBrady is still holding open the app, paying the costs for it, so that he can release a subscription model. I love Relay, but I (and I imagine others) won't pay a subscription for a stripped down version where majority of the $$$ goes to Reddit and not the developer... If he had an option to pay him directly I would consider it though.
I was looking at the Emmy nominations, specifically for Barry and got to thinking about Stephen Root. I think he might be my favorite character actor. He shows up in everything and absolutely steals the scenes every time. He can play the most normal people and the most outlandish characters and he knocks it out of the park every...
India has launched its Chandrayaan-3 mission, which aims to explore the south pole of the moon by rover, completing a scientific mission that was first attempted in 2019 but ended in catastrophic failure due to a software glitch...
Dope. The more stellar exploration, the better. I don't care who is doing it as long as it's happening. I wish someone would find a huge vein of some valuable resource on the moon or mars so it would hurry up the exploitation crowd that typically drives expansion...
I wonder what happened to the U.S. initiative to mine helium-3 from the moon? There was a plan to create a moon base a few years ago specifically for that.
hmm, I guess I'm wrong. I read about helium-3 a long time ago and I must have mistaken the purpose. I guess helium-3 is a byproduct of fission and can be used for fusion, but the energy cost to produce it in this manner is massive and isn't sustainable.
Helium-3 is filtered out by the atmosphere so very little of it occurs naturally on earth, the lunar surface was the best/easiest place to mine for it.
They better start figuring out how to merge old accounts into the new ones then. There is about to be a shitton of email undelivered that was forwarded from old addresses to new addresses...
More importantly, there is a lot of paid content on older playstore accounts that will require merging with new accounts. There is a lot of us that have been around since gmail was invite-only and made some questionable account names that were later required to be more professional. There was no option to change existing addresses - so new ones were created. Now we have to log into all accounts on our phones to access that content.
I was just getting ready to post something like this as well. We need a way to put a 'slow-mode' on certain communities. I don't want to block them entirely because I enjoy them too, but at this point /all is literally all shitposts and memes. Even scrolling way down (infinite scroll) it's all memes all the way down.
I want to be able to discover other communities and engage and grow them, but we just can't see any of them with all the memes.
Does the option to add an image via URL not work? I have tried in both Brave and Firefox desktop browsers and the Brave mobile app - clicking the "From URL" or "Upload File" doesn't appear to do anything....
Yep. Got a ton of errors... It happens a lot here. I deleted all but 1.
"We are working on resolving the issues
Over the next few days, there will be a change in server infrastructure. Temporary problems with the website's functionality may occur during this time."
I dunno, but it seems like this ought to be a pretty high priority, as hosting all the images locally is going to get exponentially more expensive as more people come to kbin... Being able to use a web image host is a much easier option.
Applying gold and awards will hold posts on the frontpage even if they're downvoted to oblivion. They're likely getting rid of them as a way of manipulating the narrative.

Perfect! I wasn't aware you were hoping to make these projects core code, but that makes sense! I would love for them to become part of the core software.
I started reading again last month after several years completing another degree, so I only set a goal for myself of 10 books. According to my StoryGraph goal, I'm at 7 so far... I should probably increase my goal.
