So what’s the problem with that? We get contributions for free to make newer hardware working, they improve already existing stuff, they solve bugs and everyone take advantage from that.

Because Pop OS comes with nvidia driver preinstalled! On Linux mint you can install the nvidia driver pretty easly but not as easly with them being preinstalled for you.
The best way to switch imo is to first to switch some of your currently installed app on windows with others that have a linux version, so you will not be entirely lost when you switch os.
For example Microsoft Office is not available on linux so maybe try libreoffice or onlyoffice, another example Photoshop doesn’t have a linux version too.
Then maybe try to familiarize with the os on a vm or on a live usb, especially on a live usb so you know what works out of the box and with your hardware.
If you want to game look for you games on protondb if they work or not, for online games instead watch areweanticheatyeat to see if the anticheat work.
Last tip is to go with a know distro not something obscure like steamos or kali linux, they are not meant to be used as daily drivers especially kali and can give you problems that will not occurre in other distro!

If you get a good experience doesn’t mean it will be a good experience for everyone. It’s not as bad as it was some time ago but it’s not all cotton candy. (I use a 1060 on Linux btw)
For me its honestly a ton of my work software (digital forensics), shit is too niche to be replaced by good FOSS options. Cellebrite, Magnet Axiom, etc. Autopsy is great and free and has a linux version but it simply cannot get the same level of data without a pretty nutty level of custom code....
Yes but it does have it’s downsides, for example it can consume more battery and more computational power to do the same tasks of a native app or it’s not compatible with every Android app out there.
Hey guys, i just seen this thing. Summarising, it is a common database for all Meta, Amazon, Apple and TomTom data collected from places, routes and maps....
I personally don’t think it would replace osm, for what I just viewed on: bdon.github.io/overture-tiles/places.html overture poi are not really placed in the right spots and in my city there are some that are really ancient, so maybe that’s why they don’t want to contribute to osm directly, because they are not that good of a data, but they can become handy for a mapper that know the zone pretty well.
Yes Linux support is not worth the trouble until you see the Epic Games launche is a CEF, that is literally a web app running in a browser and hear me out CEF is designed to be cross-platform.
The only thing they should do is ship the app for linux and maybe add a proton menu in the settings and that’s it! Valve as done most of the work for them.
If the license is compatible with the one used by OSM contributors can use the data to make their life easier, contributors of the dataset are encouraged to contribute directly to osm if possible.
That API doesn’t let you do everything tho, only a number of operations like embed Google Maps on their websites or apps, perform geocoding operations, get directions, and more.
It doesn’t give you direct access to the database!
That’s not an issues here the data is open to everybody indeed there is the Linux Foundation behind this, it uses the CDLA Permissive v2.0 license and people are even talking about using it for mapping on osm!
