Every day we’re here just to learn billionaires & families should be crushed and their wealth redistributed amongst third world countries.

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

Yup, the problem is firmly the system, but suggesting a worldwide change to socialism/communism is less “palatable” and believable by the average person.

So “eat the rich” is a decent compromise for a comment not intended to approach any sort of complex answer, while still being a move in a better direction than suggesting things to continue as they are.

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

Redistributing the wealth of billionaires is already part of a good structural change, it’ll remove from them power they’d use to continue the exploitation of the people. You can substitute “crush” by destitute and incarcerate them if you’d prefer, as long as the wealth isn’t on the hands of the few anymore.

That’s not from bad apps… If anything this new policy will make me use the mobile website instead of the app.

I’d also consider switching banks if it isn’t too much of a hassle. They clearly can’t invest well in terms of security for their users.

If we account to impacts on wildlife as well, there’s displacement of species, stressors to local fauna, and the innumerable roadkills as well

While I agree, corporations shouldn’t make bucks on knowledge(sorta) they basically eavesdropped and violated the privacy of millions of people for.

AI solutions are made from people’s ideas, and should be freely accessible by the people by definition. It not being sustainable as a business model is also a feature in this case, since there’d be no intrinsic incentive to steal data and violate privacy.

I’ll be amazed if he doesn’t fuck it up by eventually blowing up and deflect accusations on his podcast in the next 3 months or so. I’d (almost) give him a prize if he coils hold it up for this long.

So damn based. Makes me NOT wanna pirate their games. Hell, I’d even purchase even if I wouldn’t play it (if I could rn, but currently I’ve got hefty cat veterinary bills to pay).

Edit: OH MATE! THEY’RE THE POSTAL STUDIO! Goddamn I played it so damn much in my early teens. Goddamn I gotta pay my bills faster!

What did you type? I only see *******

I did it the moment they decided not to defederate from Meta. I don’t like admins who can’t take decisive actions to protect their users (and apparently seem to bend their knees to any big corpo out there)

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

Lemmy is advancing so much and so fast even Spez has competition rising up to the challenge.

I don’t have any issues about lemmy.world existing though, it keeps some users I wouldn’t like very much farther away from me. I consider it as a “buffer zone” of sorts.

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

Almost like an “intentional and kinda aggressive lib takeover”. I wouldn’t put it past the admins to try monetizing their users at some point.

In 2014, Brazil, the coup on Dilma Roussef from the Worker’s Party received backing from the USA. In 2018, the unlawful conviction of Lula from the same party, was not only backed but also had strategical support from the USA through instructions on how then judge Sergio Moro should conduct the trial and how he should work with and favour the prosecution, even by the use of fake witnesses and evidence.

They also had the heaviest of hands against Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela a few years later.

So the USA never stopped meddling and forcing their way on South America, really.

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s not necessary to have a military base or troops in order to threaten the sovereignty of a country. This is not only a bad faith argument, but it’s incredibly braindead as well.

And if you’re insistent on semantics, yes, the USA deployed troops for a “joint training” with Brazilian troops during (far-right USA backed) Bolsonaro’s government.

By far it’s Kate, even though I’m now a neovim user. It’s just a great IDE.

Just started Strattera. I feel superhuman, but have some questions about the side effects.

I’m only on day 2, but I feel so able to concentrate, it’s ridiculous. I know it’s expected to take weeks to start working, but I’m feeling it already. I spent the morning reading wikipedia, catching up with work, and doing laundry that I hadn’t done for weeks. Now, I’m gonna go out to eat at a restaurant with a...

Maybe the dosage you’re taking is a bit too high for your case, either that, or you already have an anxiety condition that is worsened by ADHD medication.

Being able to follow a manual is a high bar nowadays

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

I mean, at least FF allows that. Hardened FF is a blessing.

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

Librewolf is based on FF, you know right? Mozilla does receive Google funding (that’s why their default search engine is Google), but adopting FF and derivatives is also about Chromium not being the single dominant engine: that would only strengthen Google’s monopoly.

As long as we don’t use Chromium-based browsers (and Google services) we’re doing good against Google’s monopoly already.

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

I agree with what’s gonna happen. At the same time, I guess Mozilla won’t make it hard for “Google’s web DRM” to be either toggled off via user config, or sandboxed from user data. They have interest in catering to people fed up with Google’s constant privacy invasions, so I’m currently waiting to see their next actions with moderate confidence and a healthy dose of skepticism as well.

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m okay with it, as long as it doesn’t turn into the cesspool the same community “on the other site” was.

I guess harsh criticism of particular games are better served on their own communities instead of badmouthing them gratuitously for non-players.

As disclaimer for personal bias, I play Genshin and PGR (and I’m satisfied with both), and I’m not fond of games like Nikke and Blue Archive. Even then, I’d rather never shit on Nikke and BA, and have more nuanced discussions.

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

Both for gameplay and character designs. I don’t know much about the plot or pull rates, so I’m not judging on that. BA’s community also doesn’t have the best image from the outside in regards to "character appeal preferences ", but I try to limit myself to what I can judge based on my own personal experience only.

My main tips are: get the live ISOs of a few of the most used Linux distributions, I’d recommend in particular: Debian (my current one), Mint, Fedora and OpenSUSE.

For Debian and Fedora, get both the KDE and GNOME editions. OpenSUSE is mainly only KDE, and Mint uses Cinnamon. Those are the “desktop types”.

Try each live system on a virtual machine and see which one you like best. Your main choice tbh is the desktop environment you like the best (mine is KDE, also called Plasma), each distribution has it’s own way of doing a few things as well.

Then pick the one you enjoy the most. All of those are long-lived, stable and well-supported and documented.

Source: me, I’ve used Linux since 2003 and introduced all my family it and they have been using it for years with no issue.

Technical differences:

Fedora uses RPM for package format, and is made to work with the latest versions of software, so it’s almost a rolling release, and receives VERY constant updates (but it’s still solid). The only other release model is the SilverBlue/Kinoite which is all about having an immutable base system and managing your applications through Flatpak.

Debian OTOH uses the DEB package format, and comes in 3 update models:

  • unstable (bleeding edge software, breaks may occur) with constant updates
  • testing, or Sid (with actively tested software, more akin to Fedora’s main model. Stuff rarely goes wrong)
  • stable (receives mostly security updates, focus on using battle-tested software versions. Ideal for servers and people who want their system to absolutely not go wrong. It’s my current pick)

Project differences:

Fedora is on paper “community driven” but it’s actually backed and steered on by RedHat. There’s also a current proposal about implementing telemetry (turned on by default).

Debian is entirely community-made and driven, with no big corporation being its owner and/or main sponsor, and it has a stronger focus on FOSS. It’s about as old as RedHat (both have their origins in the early 90s), so you can bet they’ll both be around basically forever.

Edit: both are great distros, mature, stable and easy to use. Fedora was previously my most beloved, but my relationship with it soured over RedHat’s leadership decisions. Don’t let my current salt take away from the review :')

You’re welcome, hope you enjoy your new Linux, whichever you choose ✨

Have fun, I believe one of those will fit your needs just fine ✨

Lemmy.ml also has Marxist roots, but it’s more general-use.

Lemmy.world is absolutely lib, though.

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

I agree, but it’s kind of a low bar… I’m mostly glad with clearly leftist instances, regardless of their main orientation, since there’s at least some common ground.

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

Especially since if you question it you’ll die by the “invisible hand of the market” and be labelled an example on why any system other than capitalism can’t actually work.

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

Thanks again for the release, Jerboa is getting better really quickly!

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

I was able to control my focus with ease instead of having it yanked away by almost anything, and also got able to control the hyperfocus periods (as in, being able to stop whatever I’m doing to take care of other important needs).

As a side benefit, my mood also got better, during medication effects I feel less anxiety and am less prone to anger.

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

In my case I often get stressed with my step-son, because he’s not only got the worst case of ADD I’ve ever seen (without the Hyperactive part) and is always absent-minded, but he also puts zero effort into attempting to overcome his challenges. Teenagers are so damn hard to deal with 🤦‍♀️

And at my work I have some “difficult” co-workers who just can’t seem to understand the concept of “asynchronous communications” and demand instant attention all the time. Wonderful for someone with a tough time focusing 😅

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

I use it sometimes and works fine. Not great, but it’s fine for not super specific stuff

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

Gonna give SearXNG a spin then, since even though “I don’t have anything to hide talk”, privacy is a right we’re better off upholding and I want to use services that respect it.

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

To be fair, more often than not I find stuff by going into “siloed sites” (yt, forums, etc) and searching from there than using a search engine, but it’s still good for stuff that are more common but also more of a hassle trying to remember than just searching it quickly (e.g. “how do I add my user to sudoers again?” kind of stuff)

Based Konqi! Best FOSS mascot alongside Krita 's Kiki!

Edit: Fixed autocorrect’s mischief on Krita’s name

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

It was dumb autocorrector moment, I did mean Krita’s Kiki indeed, thanks for the heads up :')

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

Almost, it was autocorrector changing stuff on its own and me being too sleepy to have noticed. For some reason Oriya is a word for it, but Krita isn’t.

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

Yes, but only on Chromium-based browsers unfortunately.

Marxine,
@Marxine@lemmy.ml avatar

Completely understandable. It’s a shame Linux is still a non-priority for most large communication apps. If Windows suddenly changed their display protocols, all of them would try to implement it fully in a matter of a few days, but for Wayland support they’ve dragged their feet for years.
