An autistic person who is unsure about their understanding and knowledge of something usually has more understanding and knowledge of that topic than non-autistic people who claim to be experts on it. We often under-sell and over-deliver. More often than not non-autistic people do the opposite.

One stereotype about us is we like and . I'm a “yes” and a “no”.

I do like Prime numbers and Odd numbers:

  • 17
  • 13
  • 7

17 is very special.

  • 17 is the 7th Prime
  • 1 is an odd number
  • 7 is an odd number
  • 17 is an odd number
  • 1 + 7 = 8, although an even number, it symbolises infinity and eternity, and us

13 is also special.

  • A Prime
  • An Odd
  • A Fibonacci number

And depending on whom you ask:

  • The 8th Fibonacci number
  • The 7th Fibonacci number

Ironically:

  • The anniversary of my first romantic relationship was on: 1997-07-17. It was my first love who picked that, and she had no idea what my favourite numbers are.
  • My height is 175 cm or 5'75" to 5'85" (depending on whom you ask).
  • Favourite time of the day: 07:00 and 19:00 (7pm). 19 is the 8th Prime. (There's 8 again.)

And I'm . ^_^

How about you? What two stereotypes is you and not you?

I like prime numbers too. 1973 is a prime number. I was born in 1973.

I don’t use this place for advertising and only talk about the behind the scenes stuff of running my business. However, it was suggested here that I share my store links, so here they are:

The Autistic Innovator - an online store for autistic people. :RainbowInfinity:
https://shop.autisticinnovator.com

I Love Plushies - 100% plushie store for plushie lovers.
https://iloveplushies.com

Both of my stores are a labor of love. :RedHearts:

@ashleyspencer @actuallyautistic I shared the link to your shop with my therapist (they're also autistic) because they love all sorts of fidget toys and autism parephernalia. 👍

Some autistic people rely on rehearsed scripts they have memorized to use in certain social situations. They may have learned what to say from observing others, or perhaps from tv shows and film.

Not knowing what to say or do creates a lot of anxiety for us.

@autism101 @actuallyautistic I think sometimes we don't even realize that's what we're doing. 🙋‍♂️

We are at a disadvantage in interviews. Interview success typically requires you to intuit what a (usually) NT interviewer wants and say it to them in a way they want to hear it (hard when you’re not NT), and any typical behaviours are seen as red flags.

Giving us time to process a suggested change is important. If we have to respond instantly, there is a chance we’ll say “no” to something positive, because we haven’t had a chance to fully assess it.

You going to stay angry/upset with me forever?”

Autistic, traumatised me: will call a truce and be polite, but will remain scarred and wary of them forever

@inkican Now, I'm trying to remember which one I had back in school. 🤔 🤣

I also had a thermal wax color printer in the 1980s, but I never waisted it on black and white.

JeremyMallin,
@JeremyMallin@autistics.life avatar

@inkican I mostly just used it for artwork I created with Deluxe Paint on my Amiga.

Autistic people try their best every day to adapt to non-autistic people, exhausting ourselves.

Do non-autistic people ever try to adapt for autistic people?

Some autistic people find making phone calls extremely stressful and unpleasant and will avoid them at all costs.

Please don’t try and force your communication preferences on others.

I also need a socially acceptable script for actually ending the call.

"I have to go."
"Talk to you later."
"Later."
"Bye."
"Bye."

It's like the plutonic version of "You hang up." "No, you hang up."
