autism101,

Some autistic people rely on rehearsed scripts they have memorized to use in certain social situations. They may have learned what to say from observing others, or perhaps from tv shows and film.

Not knowing what to say or do creates a lot of anxiety for us.

You remember that little flying robot from the movie Flubber? It was like a small screen attached to a helicopter. The robot communicated solely via playing clips of TV shows, movies, or commercials on its screen. Sometimes, I feel like thst robot; like I'm only capable of communicating by parroting and regurgitating what I've seen others say/do before.

@autism101 @actuallyautistic True. I actually have this ability myself.

@autism101 @actuallyautistic I think sometimes we don't even realize that's what we're doing. 🙋‍♂️
