IHawkMike,

The private financial company—which you don’t get to choose—gets its cut as well, in fees, some which are hidden.

Not disagreeing with anything, but people should know that even if you’re locked into a crappy HSA provider through your employer, like BenefitWallet, you can and should still open an HSA with a good provider, like Fidelity, and max out and invest contributions there.

Just don’t forget to save all the receipts for out-of-pocket health expenses.

IHawkMike,

I thing the technical term for this is an RGE.

(Resume Generating Event)

IHawkMike,

That’s why you should get two.

And if you only need FIDO2/passkeys, the Security Key series is half the cost ($25) of the Yubikey 5 ($50) and all you really lose is OpenPGP and PIV (smart card) functionality.

Now I like playing with all the features of the 5, but most people should just need FIDO2.

IHawkMike,

I use this extension for Firefox:

addons.mozilla.org/en-US/…/old-reddit-redirect/

Edit: just realized you don’t want the old interface. You’re probably SOL then.

IHawkMike,

Kagi has been amazing for me so far. I signed up as soon as they changed the pricing to allow unlimited searches at $10/mo.

I’m still working on my filters and promoting/demoting/pinning sites in my results, but it’s already night-and-day better than Google and even DuckDuckGo (which still deserves much respect).

IHawkMike,

As someone familiar with the OSI model, this thread is a bit confusing since the Internet to me is really the infrastructure on top of which all of your fancy sites and apps are built. When you say “the Internet”, I’m thinking about TCP/IP, BGP, DNS, etc.

That said, I’m pretty sure most people here are just taking about websites at L7, although there are arguments for change at the other layers.

IHawkMike,

And if a significant enough portion of the people are getting their information from those sources, we’re all in for a bad time.

IHawkMike,

It’s not hard to believe that MS would “give” out a free (read: ad-laden) version of Windows, with various features enabled depending on tier of subscription.

Except that already have that with the Enterprise/SA tier and have for a long time. Sure, Pro is still required but it’s typically an OEM license included in the cost of the hardware.

IHawkMike,

Agree 100%. I self-host a lot of services but access to my passwords needs at least 3-nines uptime and the cost of providing that via Azure/AWS isn’t really worth it to me.

That said, I trust Bitwarden way more than I ever trusted Lastpass and I still use option 1 for highly sensitive accounts along with redundant Yubikeys (FIDO2, PIV, and GPG in that order) for anything that supports it.

  • The End of Privacy is a Taylor Swift Fan TikTok Account Armed with Facial Recognition Tech (www.404media.co)

A viral TikTok account is doxing ordinary and otherwise anonymous people on the internet using off-the-shelf facial recognition technology, creating content and growing a following by taking advantage of a fundamental new truth: privacy is now essentially dead in public spaces....

    IHawkMike,

    Least-capable, maybe. I don’t know about worst.

    IHawkMike,

Hard agree. I now just resort to hibernate after an hour or so and even getting that setting to show up requires a reg hack most of the time. Modern standby sucks.

    IHawkMike,

My concern is that the people that already own everything today will capture all of the new value created by AI + automation and the rift of inequality will only deepen.

Guillotines aren’t as effective when they have AI-controlled assault drones.

    IHawkMike,

I want to watch this episode of The Great British Sewing Bee.

    IHawkMike,

My brothers and I would always throw each other into the bad guys or off a cliff.

    IHawkMike,

Putting anything onto or any effort into a .zip domain seems futile and short-sighted.

    IHawkMike,

I think you can just take it. 😄
