Grippler,

…LET’S GET READY TO RUUUUUUUMBLEEE!!!..

Grippler,

Yeah we have tax rebates for the rich, defunding of education, some laughably passive bordering nonexistent policies to protect local environment and combat climate change (heavily lobbied for by the agricultural lobby)…shit is going just A-OK here 👌

Grippler,

IDK…you have some pretty strong hydrochloric acid in your stomach that’s not dissolving you, but im pretty sure it would melt you if i dipped you in a vat of it.

Grippler,

Why would electrical grid power production include vehicles?

Grippler,

Because this is about grid power production…vehicles generally have nothing to do with the production of electricity for the grid.

Grippler,

The constant limiting yourself in what you eat and how much you eat, never really feeling full, always having to savour every tiny bite of what you love to eat because there’s only a small amount…Yeah that’s not really happiness either. I lost 75lbs five years ago, and this is still how i feel. Sure, my energy levels are higher and I’m less exhausted, but I’m 100% not any happier than i was back then. It’s just other stuff that’s sucking the joy out of life now.

Grippler,

I’m not sure I would bother with the massive effort it is to change lifestyle like that, if i got fat again. It’s fine to maintain now that i have it, no need to revert back in to old habits. But i can’t unequivocally say it’s worth the effort to make that change.

Grippler,

“early internet”(2006-2009)…pick one, they’re mutually exclusive.

Grippler,

This is when piracy is no longer the more convenient option.

Grippler,

I do this with ebooks from them. Just download the epub, strip the DRM, return immediately so someone else can read it and i have my DRM-free offline copy for whenever i have time to read it.

Grippler,

There is only a distinction when written, when spoken everything is words.

Found this lodged in my cat's tail. It was well healed over by the time we found it. (sh.itjust.works)

See pics, found this thing well healed in my cat’s tail. Came out with no resistance and no bleeding. Looks like a tip to something, but not sure. Cat is less than 6 months old. Thoughts? The grooves you see are from my pliers. It’s hollow and seems to be aluminum or some other soft metal....

Grippler,

Lead isn’t magnetic, not sure it would pose a problem for an MRI scan.

Grippler,

For me, the visuals are a huge part of gaming, i simply don’t like the style of most indie games go for. The “artsy” stylistic graphics, the 80’s inspired pixel graphics, the simple polygon graphic is all indie games seem to choose between these days, and in personally hate looking at it.

Grippler,

Just say no to putting your shit on the cloud other people’s computers.

Unfortunately self-hosting is not a realistic solution for the vast majority of the population. Even the best solutions out there for self-hosting are way too complex for most people. If it’s not close to “point-click-done”, with no debugging or maintenance whatsoever, it’s just not a viable solution for most people. I’m decent with tech and do self-host a few things, but it’s a complete PITA compared to “cloud” options.

Grippler,

That’s still putting your data in some internet rando’s computer, because “trust me bruh!”…it’s still putting it in " the cloud", but now in a way that is nearly completely impossible to enforce things like GDPR

Grippler,

I think you’re severely overestimating the closeness of people’s relations to neighbors and availability of people with the skills to pull this off with high enough stability for other people to want to use it…and all in their free time outside of their regular job and personal life.

Grippler,

Maybe, maybe not…it will vary greatly from country to country whether or not close social interaction with neighbors is the norm.

Grippler,

My big issue is rarely with data i need myself, but data i need to share with other people. Using physical storage to pass this between us is not a solution as we would need to send that via mail.

Manually moving files across my devices all the time is also a nuisance that i prefer not to deal with.

Grippler,

Pretty sure “a plague” is referencing covid here, so it’s already on the list

Grippler,

The Sync users in that latest thread with izzy are definitely a bunch of butt hurt people.

Grippler,

Oh hey you’re one of the butt hurt sync defenders i noticed was very active in that thread…nice to see you here too.

Grippler,

I’m not talking about this thread dingus…

Grippler,

you start to form coherency of how some users act across different communities, which allows for much better discussion since it’s not limited to one-off comments in a single thread. The better you know people the better and more nuanced discussions you can have with them.

Or, like you mention, you may see a pattern and know to disregard and not engage with them based on that.

Languages in the EU

I’m about to sound like the ignorant American I am, so I apologize in advance! We’re looking at a trip to Germany, and possibly Prague, and we’ve noticed that a lot of the hotel names are French and a couple hotels that aren’t named in French have replied to comments with things like “Bonjour! etc etc” What’s up...

Grippler,

I’ve traveled quite a bit to different places in France within the past few years, both large an small cities, and the vast majority of people i meet, even younger people (<30), have either so bad English skills that they are really hard to communicate with, or none at all. Meeting someone in France with proper English skill is definitely the exception rather than the rule IME.

Grippler,

My most jarring experience was with a waiter, he asked “English or French?” When I entered the restaurant, I answered “English please” and he just shook his head and said “no”…like, why would you ask then!?

Grippler,

What a fucking ridiculous workaround that’s completely unavailable to the regular consumer…fuck Samsung (and the industry in general) for this approach.

Grippler, (edited )

I haven’t seen >40" monitors at a reasonable price though compared to TVs

Edit: also, there’s usually not any audio output to an amplifier on monitors.

Grippler,

Unless it’s “load this file on a USB stick and plug in in your TV”-easy, it’s still out if reach to most consumers.

But my point is, it shouldn’t be necessary to do these things in the first place. Fucking drop the “smart” element from them completely, they always suck ass anyway and are laggy as hell to navigate.

Grippler,

As I mentioned earlier, use a soundbar or dedicated speakers (most TV speakers suck anyways).

Yes, but there is no audio output (as in a RCA, Optical etc., not built-in speaker) to get the audio from the monitor to the amplifier.

Grippler,

Not true at all…e.g. Chromecast doesn’t have a dedicated audio output and neither does the apple TV, they only have HDMI output. Now the HDMI does also carry audio, but many amps and especially sound bars, do not have HDMI to pass through and rely on getting the audio signal from the TV/monitor if you’re using those devices.

Grippler,

None of the >40" monitors I’ve looked at today had any audio outputs. But finding one that isn’t an ultrawide format for gaming is probably the bigger issues it seems.

Grippler,

You’re completely missing the point…this will add an ugly extra box cluttering up an otherwise clean setup. Of course there is a workaround, there always is, but it’s far from optimal. It’s a bad solution to an annoying problem that shouldn’t exist.
