FrameXX,

sends requests to websites that can identify you

What requests? I though that only information that the browser gives to website regarding dark theme is that your preferred-color-scheme is now dark.

FrameXX,

I also have a 120hz display and use Fennec and can state that it works smoothly and scrolling feels like 120hz.

FrameXX,

I think you are over exaggerating here. This isn’t just a case for Chrome to first introduce the new features to iOS, but many other cross-platform apps choose to do so. And it doesn’t need to be because nobody cares about Android. Android still has a larger user base especially when it comes to Chrome. But when you develop for iOS you optimize for tens of devices (maybe not even that) and maybe the latest 3 iOS versions, but when you develop for Android you optimize for thousands of devices from different manufacturers, that put different skins on top of Android, where one runs Android 13, the other one Android 11, and the another one Android 9. Hence when releasing a new feature you first put the work to the iOS version, see the user feedback, change and tweak some things and then put the work to make a functional Android version. I am not a professional dev myself by any means, so I can’t really say everything in confidence, but developing for Android probably takes more debugging and time, because of the variability of the environment the app will run in.

FrameXX,

No one is able to write the name right 😅. It’s Kvaesitso. I mean no bad. It’s pretty uncommon name. It just makes me smile to see it written wrong more often than right.

Oh and an android TV version while you’re at it

It could hardly get better than SmartTubeNext.

FrameXX,

AFAIK this is not all. Doesn’t Shizuku allow apps to also execute shell commands with higher privilege?

FrameXX, (edited )

Anything music related? Well, there’s a nice app called Tuner.

FrameXX, (edited )

Our local Google competitor has an map app and they did add Android auto and Apple carplay support.

FrameXX, (edited )

It uses openstreetmap data, except for our country and slovakia, where it uses its own map data. Although it has a some features aimed only at our country it can be used by anyone around the world without problem. In comparison to google maps it’s much more usable for hiking and cycling thanks to it’s less dull map graphic. Since the app is owned by a profit company it requires you to login to be able to use some of the basic features, like saving routes or recorded tracks, which is a pity. I am not really fan of Seznam (company behind it) and their services, but their maps are probably their most useful and well-done usable service. It has a web version too: en.mapy.cz. when it comes to navigation it has no traffic information except in our country. I would say that the navigation is average, but generally works well.

The video is based in mentioned sources. I don’t see a reason why every video from LTT should be non-credible.

YouTube has gone far from Material Design long time ago. The thin ugly icons are just one from many of the examples.

You can download any visual studio code extension from the visual studio extensions marketplace as far as my experience goes. There’s a “download extension” link for every extension which will give you a *.vsix file. Only pity is that you won’t get any automatic updates for the extension.

8 just took a look and the VS marketplace website on my mobile and look at what I have found under the “resources” section! This is same for every extension.

FrameXX,

And also FOSS is just cool. That’s a cherry on top.

FrameXX,

Ouch! Thank you for noting.

FrameXX,

A think that a lot of devs take “themed icons” as a gimmick feature on top and rather focus on app stability and other features, or they just don’t care because they don’t see it as a deal-breaker in any means.

FrameXX,

Even though they might not be for the techies they feel much more transparent than other companies. I don’t think Nothing is even trying to be for the techies. They are just going their own way.

FrameXX,

Is this really the fault of the format or the fact that it just isn’t that much well supported?

For easy fast sharing over local LAN there are services like pairdrop.net which are far from hard to use. It may not be as fast as USB, but in most cases it works well. I just wanted to point out that sharing things over LAN is not that hard.

Even better service is LocalSend.

Microsoft cuts ties with the Surface Duo after just 2 Android version updates (www.windowscentral.com)

Microsoft is done supporting the original Surface Duo, three years after it first launched on September 10. The company has stated from the very start that the Surface Duo would receive just three years of OS updates, meaning today is the last day that Microsoft has to stay true to its word....

Regarding privacy on iOS, I recommend watching [this video] (www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHnBOUNxHsw). You can get more privacy on Android with some tweaking (custom ROMs, AdAway, uninstalling pre-installed bloatware, etc…). There are several ways to get more privacy, some easier than others. I know most people won’t even try. On the other hand, with iOS, you’re handing your privacy over to Apple in good faith, but you have far fewer options to take things into your own hands. People want privacy out of the box, but that often clashes with companies’ interest in making as much money as possible (simply put). Some companies use privacy as a selling point in their marketing campaign, but often it is just false advertising.

FrameXX,

Key mapper is great for remapping keys, but it is not a replacement for an automation app.

Meta services is not a part of any package, but it’s an independent package com.facebook.services that a lot of manufacturers preinstall as a system app, because they get paid for that by meta. The package runs in the background and most meta apps communicate with it, use it for push notifications etc… You can uninstall the app with ADB command adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.facebook.services.

If you have com.facebook.services you may also other meta system packages com.facebook.system and com.facebook.appmanager preinstalled on your phone.

FrameXX,

I do so. When you start the browser it’s bloated of course, but you can customize it and remove almost everything you don’t like. The browser itself has a lot of its own neat features, so it’s not really just a reskin of chromium. I am tired of pretending it’s only bad.

FrameXX,

AFAIK you can download every extension as vsix file from vs code web marketplace and then import it into VSCodium. That’s how I have been installing missing extensions so far and it works well.

FrameXX,

Because he hates his child and wants her/him to suffer, so he forces him to use windows vista. That’s an obvious answer.

FrameXX,

to ensure she doesn’t break anything or end up where she shouldn’t…

So she uses an operating system that’s near to 2 decades old OS with years of live without any security patches whatsoever? I would say that’s rather more dangerous for her, than using an up to date operating system.

Just install an up to date os of your choice (be it Linux (Mint) or Windows) and create her an account without admin privileges and some reliable antivirus (especially on windows). If you want to be really safe you can filter her network traffic. There are countless tools for this. One of the easier ones to use is NextDNS even though it’s possible there are even better solutions.

FrameXX,

I can approve you that the settings mentioned here doesn’t even exist in Pixel 4A. Only some ROMs add this option into their settings on their own, but it’s not a stock Android feature.

FrameXX,

Sometimes just a simple phone restart can do a lot. You could also try changing the navigation mode to gestures and then back to buttons which should force update the navigation bar position.

FrameXX,

Yeah, but that is not an op’s desired solution. I think he/she is aware of the navigation gestures option.

FrameXX,

Ouch!

Is it just me, or is Play Store making it harder to scroll when ads are on-screen?

I normally use the Aurora frontend, but I used Google’s app to check something. I couldn’t help but notice that when I swiped and then let go, the page would barely move past the point I had let go. It had no momentum whatsoever. As soon as I got past the ads, scrolling was back to normal and the exact same flinging motion...

FrameXX,

It is potentially unsecure both as a process and with its consequences, but if you know what you are doing (carefully read tutorials and guides step by step especially if you have no beforehand experience) you have a very low chance to brick your device or corrupt it in any other way.

It’s important to note that rooting is different from device model to device model and especially from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some manufacturers totally prevent rooting. Officially you lose the warranty of your device if you root it.

Some of the other commenters have mentioned that some apps check for root and refuse to work if the device is rooted (or only because the bootloader is unlocked) which is true, however if you are rooted there is variety of tools to prevent these apps from recognizing a rooted device (or just unlocked bootloader) so I wouldn’t count this as that much of a problem. I am using banking apps and google pay on my rooted phone just fine.

FrameXX,

But it should still work in cases when you lost your phone and nobody else rebooted it, shut it down, or even wiped it, which is still a large portion of cases. I wouldn’t call it “completely useless” in that case.

FrameXX,

*Only for opening rar files. Not creating them.

FrameXX,

You won’t get video recommendations on your home feed (and maybe also other parts of youtube) if you have watch history disabled in your google account settings (you request google not to save your watch history).

What's the best app for Youtube right now?

Years ago I used NewPipe but when I wanted a little more from my app I switched the ReVanced until it started giving me more and more issues. For the past 3 months or so I’ve been using a cracked Youtube Premium app, but now it’s dropping every video after about a minute. So what’s everyone using these days to avoid all of...

FrameXX,

I don’t see a reason why Google should start supporting sponsorblock if even newpipe didn’t go that further to support it from ethical reasons.

FrameXX,

You may or may not agree. Here is their explanation: newpipe.net/…/newpipe-and-online-advertising/

FrameXX,

Can you share the command?

FrameXX,

but at some point it broke on the custom ROM

The life of custom ROM users 😅. I sympathize with you.

FrameXX,

Thanks!

FrameXX,

Because the battery is less stressed when it is in percentages near 50% than if it is in percentages near 100% or 0% AFAIK.
