I knew the face, even the image was familiar, but I just don't watch TV, and famous old white guys all look so similar, so I looked it up. Figured somebody else might also wonder, so be a good Lem and saved some folks a click.

KER-unch! User name checks out. :-D

The transient nature of this sort of image is one aspect that I really appreciate. Someone on foot, in a car, on a bike will run over it. Or the Sun will come to melt it. Regardless it will only be there for a short time. Ephemeral beauty has an urgency and immediacy to it.

" Believed to have originated in a cave in Roquefort, France, blue cheese is available in a handful of varieties including gorgonzola, stilton, and cambozola. The blue veins characteristic of blue cheese develop from the bacteria Penicillium Roqueforti that grow within small punctures created on top of the cheese loaves at the beginning of the cheese ripening process.

Though blue cheese is typically high in sodium, it is rich in dairy protein, dietary fats, and essential vitamins and minerals including calcium, phosphorous, potassium, zinc, and vitamin A. What makes each variety different is the type of milk used, the length of ripening, and the result texture and flavor."

Bah! Missed that. Thanks for the catch! I was looking for nifty things blue cheeses did nutritionally. Mostly seems they are just cheese.

From Wikipedia, "In addition to his art, Ufer is known for his social activism. He helped victims of the 1918 flu epidemic being treated in the local schoolhouse and collected money for miners on strike in Madrid, New Mexico.[3] He was also a member of the Industrial Workers of the World and follower of Leon Trotsky.[1]"

He was also a member of The Taos Society of Artists (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taos_Society_of_Artists).

I saw something like this, which piped exhaust from a generator thru a container of water and algae, with the idea to capture the co2, etc produced. Sure why not. I'll still prefer trees.

"The main active component of Japanese wasabi is a biochemical called 6-MSITC, a known antioxidant and anti-inflammatory known to exist in only trace amounts elsewhere throughout the plant kingdom, Nouchi said. The double-blind, randomized study involved 72 healthy subjects, aged 60 to 80. Half of them took 100 milligram s of wasabi extract at bedtime, with the rest receiving a placebo."

“There is no more time for Xochimilco,” said Zambrano. “The invasion” of pollution is very strong: soccer fields, floating dens. It is very sad.”

Umm, what are "floating dens"?

ForestOrca,
@ForestOrca@kbin.social avatar

Thank you for the clarification! Delicate creatures, like axolotl end up being markers for and victims of pollution, alas. If only we could find a way to respect all of Earth's creatures while enjoying ourselves, doubtless we would benefit, also.

I left reddit, and pretty much stay away from it. I don't want to give advertising revenue to reddit. And so I suggest federating with reddit is not a good idea. As you say, "it's over there, if we need/want it", to paraphrase.

I've been trying the subtle 'send friends cool posts from the fediverse', as I wasn't having much luck explaining what the fediverse is/ why we should leave the corporate social media behind.

Time to ditch #duckduckgo (lemmy.world)

In the last couple of months I have noticed an increasing trend of supplying me search results that are completely unrelated to the current query and tie back to my location or previous searches. I can say this with a high degree of certainty this is without a doubt beyond the 100th instance this has happened....

Same. I've been supporting it for some years now, but I'm upping the ante. I have many friends, family, and business associates I've been able to get on Signal. It's a super useful app, and a crucial privacy service. Let's do what we can to keep it going.

ForestOrca,
@ForestOrca@kbin.social avatar

Umm, doesn't one have to backup anything one wants to save/ have access to in the future? Aren't upgrades a thing will all software? I'm not sure how this is different for Signal versus any other messaging app. Or any app / client that produces documents, etc?

ForestOrca, (edited )
@ForestOrca@kbin.social avatar

I just checked the Signal Support (https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/articles/360007059752-Backup-and-Restore-Messages). And it appears there is a method generally, but not for iOS. Tho' screenshots work. And I understand how not backing up, and disappearing messages contribute to security.

You really need this to get the effect: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=CVZHk0nt5j4

The full effect requires at least 100+ little kids merrily singing this nonsense song at the top of their lungs.

The article is about "TCE, or trichloroethylene, is a volatile organic compound that humans are frequently exposed to in a variety of settings, though those who use products with the chemical in an occupational setting are most at risk. It’s also commonly used in carpet cleaning treatments, hoof polishes, brake cleaners, pepper spray and lubricants." SYAC

8 inch rear, and 20 inch front wheels - it'll be a slow and bumpy ride, when they finally work out all the bumps in development. https://civilizedcycles.com/pages/commercial

Civilized Cycles has a starting price of $4999 for the CC Model 1, 60 mile range, released in 2020.

In the mean time , the cool thing is that truck bikes already exist, e.g. the oldest US bike manufacturer, Worksman Cycles, and they've worked out the electrification part, too.

I'm currently working on rebuilding a Worksman Front Loader, which has a 500lb load limit, and 3 speed sturmey-archer hub.
