Fish,

Who are these small painters that you speak of?

Fish,

Huh. As an American, I thought my mom was the only person who referred to them as cheese toasties.

Fish,

I already wear a jock strap. How much more comfortable can I get?

Fish,

Is Proton Pass worth using yet? It’s relatively new, and it kinda seems like Proton tries to juggle too many different services. I’m already paying for Proton so I might switch over from Bitwarden eventually.

Fish,

Who said I’m a doctor?

Fish,

I was finally able to get rid of the ads in Windows. I’m sure that it doesn’t block everything, but editing the ‘hosts’ file helps. At least I don’t see any ads in Windows anymore. Here is an simple tutorial that I found on how to do so:

youtu.be/IJr2DcffquI

Fish,

No, it was included when I bought my laptop.

Fish,

Nah I don’t see any examples of bisitting. This must be the chart for straight people

Fish,

Step 1: Disable Twitch adblocker.

Step 2: Log in to Twitch.

Step 3: Re-enable Twitch adblocker.

That’s what worked for me.

Fish,

Just bring a Machinery’s Handbook with you and you will be a god.

Fish,

Because CoD Black Ops requires internet in order to access most of the content, such as multiplayer. Undertale does not. You got any other, more relevant examples?

Fish,

What about some sorta duck-goose hybrid?

Fish,

Yeah, i bet you don’t have guns though. I’ll take my guns over my safety any day!

Fish, (edited )

Well, the sign is missing a lot of the original text, so we can only assume that it said “titties and ass”.

Fish,

They were boring anyway

Fish,

Here is some useful information for people wanting to move instances. For a list of instances, along with with stats for those instances:

fedidb.org/software/lemmy or lemmyverse.net

Also, tools for migrating instances:

github.com/CMahaff/lasim (easy) - Latest Version Download (just select your OS type and run the program)

github.com/wescode/lemmy_migrate

github.com/Ac5000/lemmy_account_sync

Fish,

Yeah, it is. It’s nothing new. Here is a post about it from 3 years ago:

reddit.com/…/reddit_community_points_faq_guides_m…

I love shitting on reddit as much as the next guy, but I don’t think they are actually implementing this.

Fish,

Thanks for this! I was having trouble finding anything with a recent date on it related to Community Points.

That makes me wonder if Reddit is trying to keep this under wraps until release date, so that their remaining userbase doesn’t have another protest. It’s kind of crazy that they have been working on this crypto garbage for three years, yet don’t have the foresight to see that this is going to backfire. Is there anyone, aside from crypto bros., that are even interested in crypto and NFTs anymore?

“Failure to follow and comply with the above rules may constitute a breach of the Previews Terms and result in a temporary or permanent ban from Reddit or certain subreddits or removal of your access to Reddit Econ Goods.”

So they can take your coins at any time if they don’t approve of something that you do.

“By using any Feature, you understand that the Feature may be canceled at any time for any or no reason, in our sole discretion, without advance notice or liability to Reddit. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any Feature (in whole or in part) at any time, with or without notice to you…There will be no refunds if any Feature is no longer usable on or through the Services.”

Also, they can get rid everyone’s coins at any time without reimbursing them. I hope Community Points will be the final nail in Reddit’s coffin. It would be really funny if Reddit was killed by crypto.

Fish, (edited )

I’m not sure if I agree that crypto is going to swing back up, or at least not like it did in 2021. The subreddit may have more than 6 million users, but it doesn’t have any posts in the past week with more than 1000 upvotes. In reality, the crypto subreddit has a smaller userbase than Lemmy. That’s probably not entirely representative of the entire crypto community, but I think that it does indicate that a lot of people have lost interest.

I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how it all goes down though. Makes me glad I’m on Lemmy now.

Fish,

I moved to a different instance about a month ago, after lemmy.world got hacked. I haven’t had any issues on Midwest.social. I suggest other people do the same if they want Lemmy to be feasible in the long term. Get the fuck off Lemmy.world.

Here is a list of instances sorted by user count if anyone wants to move: https://fedidb.org/software/lemmy

Fish,

I recommend people move away from Lemmy.world. Having ~28% of Lemmy users on a single instance is not good for the health of Lemmy overall.

For those that want to move to a different instance, here is a link to Lemmy instances sorted by user count: fedidb.org/software/lemmy

Fish, (edited )

No idea. But if I were to guess, it looks like ‘www.hexbear’ was added in July and then reposted in August in an attempt remove the ‘www’. I assume their intention was to follow the same syntax as everyone else, but they weren’t able to delete the original ‘www.hexbear’. Probably user error, but that’s just a guess.

Fish,

I haven’t used them, but others are recommending these tools for transferring your user info:

github.com/CMahaff/lasim

github.com/wescode/lemmy_migrate

Fish, (edited )

Lemmy is a federated network (part of the Fediverse), meaning that, for the most part, all instances are linked together and share most of the same information and comments. If people move from one instance to another then their experience will be almost identical.

If you already have an account on Lemmy.world then you can transfer your account information to an account on a different instance by using one of the many tools created by Lemmy’s users. The reason you would move away from Lemmy.world is that it helps decentralize Lemmy’s data, so that if one instance goes down it doesn’t have a large impact on others’ Lemmy experience.

If you are using an instance with only 10 users, then here are some issues you might run into: there are less users to update the instance’s ‘communities’ page, so you might have to add some communities to the instance manually; there aren’t as many people maintaining the instance, so it might not be as well-maintained as some larger instances; the server costs might not be worth hosting for just 10 users (donate to your host, if you have the means to do so). However, there are a lot of smaller instances that are just as well-maintained as Lemmy.world (like Midwest.social).

I hope this helped you understand Lemmy a little better.

Fish,

Because Firefox is better.

I don’t care what the CEO of a corporation is doing because most of them are conservative pieces of shit.

Fish,

Revenant is on DIsney+. The Wailing is on freevee and tubi?

Fish,

Too bad Disco Elysium 2 will be a soulless cash grab. It’s a bit ironic that the developer ended up getting destroyed by capitalism.

Fish,

I bought a ps1 classic to use for emulators, back when they were on clearance. It’s only good enough for 5th-gen gaming (N64-era), but that’s good enough for me. I can use my PC for everything else.

Fish,

My issue with Kbin is that it’s missing some of the communities from Lemmy. For example, [email protected] isn’t available on Kbin and I can’t add it. Also, it annoys me seeing empty image placeholders on every post. Last time that I used Kbin, it also kept showing error messages every couple minutes. Kbin just isn’t ready for mainstream adoption. Lemmy is.

Fish,

There is a 20-character limit. I tried.

Fish,

This is why I recently switched back to Firefox.

Fish,

Reddit has had a good run, but it’s over. It’s been corrupted by money and I don’t think that can be undone. People need to move on, like they did with Digg. Let the product die.

Fish,

Why is it pink?

Fish,

But why is the creamy bussy sauce pink?

Fish,

I approve this message.

Fish,

You could say the same about microwavable rice.

Fish,

The main difference between them is that far more research goes into carseats than gamer chairs.

Fish,

Then 2023 has got to be a pretty good year for you too, with the releases of Final Fantasy 16, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Diablo 4. I have enjoying Diablo 4 and am really looking forward to Baldur’s Gate 3 (I haven’t played the early-access).

Fish,

To me, Kbin isn’t really ready to be used by the average person. I get a lot of error messages and many communities are missing, no matter which Kbin instance I choose. I’ll move to Kbin when it’s a little more fleshed out. For now, I’ll stick to Lemmy.
