There are directories like lemmyverse.net/communities but it’s not straightforward for new users to simply click on a community to join Are there any clients that have this onboarding workflow implemented well?
Well, people ask openly other people when gu instance to move to due to LW instability, if there’s a better scenario than another, we can discuss it together
You are basically asking people to work for free for you
No, the point I’m making is that it’s easier to have a 3k instance requiring 80€ donations from its member, who would feel closer to the rest of the members and their administration team, than a 21k instance requiring 560€ per month.
To be honest, I also think that we should move away from the donations model to an open subscription model. 80€ per month for 3k users is 0,32€ per user, you can implement a system where users pay 0,5€ for their cost, and can even pay more and offer to cover the subscriptions costs for other users. That way you give a real sense of community among members, and allow the instance admins to have more financial stability.
That’s another point. I guess over time some instances would aggregate in clusters. There is probably low interest for a niche software development English speaking instance to federate with a local Japan speaking city instance
Following the spirit of spreading across the Fediverse (and because my main instance is down so many times, because diverse reasons) I’m intrigued about the joining instance process, because I honestly don’t know what criteria to have in order to join another one if I ever want to do it....
Thank you for your message. You might want to have a look at github.com/CMahaff/lasim to sync subs between accounts.
I thought communities synced over instances so if an instance goes down, communities are still accessable.
They are, but not in the way you think: if you follow [email protected] from lemm.ee, and then lemmy.world goes down, you can still see the content of that community on lemm.ee, it does not become unavailable to you.
The issues with choosing a small instance (let’s say less than 500 users) is that your All feed would be quite empty, as only communities that people on your instances subscribed to would show up, which is an issues with discoverability of new content.
As I said in the post, the LCS tool can be a mitigation against that.
The issue with Beehaw is their defederation from Lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works, which prevents accessing some communities (even though I’m not a 100% if it’s bidirectional or only one way)
I see the appeal, but the lack of apps is a dealbreaker for many. I know Artemis is in beta, but the dev having to build it without an API is a high entry barrier
I know, the platform isn’t ready, the platform needs more creators, the platform has technical improvements to do…We could have said the same for Lemmy before the Reddit blackout, the same for Mastodon on Twitter....
I’m kind of new to lemmmy and I could find the answer anywhere but it seems my geddit.social all feed is old. It stays with posts ab 2-4 days old. At one point the top post was like 2 weeks old. While Lemmy.worlds all feed is updating way faster. Why is this? If I want faster feed should I switch? Thanks
What is a good way for a new Lemmy user to browse and join communities?

What are some good European Lemmy instances?
Edit: thanks everyone for the suggestions!...
As badly described as possible, what is your favorite video game?
How to persuade people around me switch to Matrix/Element?
Hello fellow c/privacy members....
Searching for a regional instance
Does anyone know of a list of regional instances? I’m trying to expand beyond lemmy.world but am unsure exactly where to go
What’s a painful experience you haven’t had in years?
Question inspired by a Charley horse that hit in the middle of the night.
We reached 100 users! 🎉🍻

What is the maximum number of active users on an instance before the financial burden gets too high for the admins?
Pretty straight question....
The funny thing about these DDos attacks on Lemmy World is that the hackers seem to forget that other instances exist.
If they’re trying to attack all of Lemmy, or the whole Fediverse, they’re doing it wrong. lol...
What made you choose your instance?

What are your criteria for choosing an instance other than Lemmy.world?
Hello everyone,...
We should seriously start to promote a PeerTube migration everywhere

What has been up with lemmy.world lately? (postimg.cc)
At this point, many people have been bailing from the server due to the uptime issues. What’s the rub?
When you notice Lemmy is quieter than usual, then have a look at the Lemmy.world status
Seems like they are under attack again, will those people never stop? I feel sorry for the admin team.
"All" feed not updating very quickly
