ExceptionalCow,

I can confirm. Have been using this with swipe library for a while now and it made me finally ditch gboard 👍

ExceptionalCow,

Sehr cool. Vielen Dank dafür! 👍

LineageOS for MicroG update speed

I had reimaged my old Samsung on LineageOS as it seemed to be the only alternative that supported my model. It was fine until I installed OSMAnd, which couldn’t get a location. Shame on me for not noticing that I would need microG for that. Not feeling comfortable with all the rooting and flashing needed to shoehorn microG...

ExceptionalCow, (edited )

The guy on this page

milaq.net/android-degoogled/

(under chapter “Wifi/cell location”) put together an installation package for location services without microg. I have been using this on “normal” lineageos for a while and while it may not be perfect it’s certainly better than using GPS only.

ExceptionalCow,

Still it would need signature spoofing which isn’t currently possible on normal LineageOS AFAIK since haystack and tingle won’t work on newer versions anymore. So if one doesn’t need any GMS-dependent apps and doesn’t want to wait too long for monthly updates on Lineage for microg then milaq’s package looks certainly like a decent option, at least for me.

ExceptionalCow,

Erinnert irgendwie an Banksy… 😁

ExceptionalCow,

ExceptionalCow,

Danke 👍

ExceptionalCow,

You can backup and restore with Neobackup which can be found in F-Droid. In my case it works for all apps except Signal which has its own backup routine. You can then pull all data from /sdcard with “adb pull /sdcard” to computer. Then do “adb push . /sdcard” to the new phone, point Neobackup to your data folder and restore everything you need. I usually only restore user apps with data, you could easily bork your installation otherwise.

ExceptionalCow,

ExceptionalCow,

ExceptionalCow,

Doesn’t really look good:

ExceptionalCow,

I had the same problem. I was fed up with my Amazfit GTS 3 and pairing a Mi band 6 wasn’t possible when I tried. For now it made me turn back to my trusty Pebble Time Steel (left wrist) and an oldish Mi band 3 (right wrist) which I intended to put on eBay but fortunately never did. Gadgetbridge is connected to both simultaneously. With the Pebble I can even mark tasks (in LoopHabit) as done and have as many reminders as I want. The Mi is only there for pulse tracking. I’m happy with this combination but I can of course understand that not everybody would like this as one has to charge two devices. Edit: the Mi 3 was the last device without encrypted server side pairing if I remember that correct.

ExceptionalCow,

I also thought about getting a Fossil Hybrid as it’s supported by Gadgetbridge. I’d miss sleep tracking though and I’m still too much of a Pebble fan to let go. I have 3 PTS in good condition and one ugly scratched PTS with mushy buttons for parts. Have been eyeing a PTR but I too would be annoyed by having to charge it every 2 days so I think I’ll refrain from that. I’m not really good at repairing things but if one of my PTS fails I’ll at least try to replace the broken part.

Anyone know how safe Pebble apps are?

I’m probably one of the few people still using a Pebble smart watch (still alive and kicking with Rebble!), and I’ve just gone through the app store and found a few cool apps that still work. Given that you have to give the Pebble android app quite a few permissions to be able to do its thing I’m now wondering if all the...

ExceptionalCow,

Not helpful, I know, but take your upvote from a fellow Pebble user for a really interesting question 👍

ExceptionalCow,

After going with Xiaomi devices for some years (with Gadgetbridge) I revived my trusty Pebble Time Steel only yesterday. This thing is 8 years old and doesn’t do heartrate but it still tracks my sleep more precise than any of Xiaomi’s devices ever did. Maybe you can find a device in good condition on eBay? Be sure to ask sellers for daylight pictures of the screen with settings menu or a bright watchface. If the battery is dying the screen looks like nacre cause it’s being lifted by the battery.

ExceptionalCow,

You sound like me when I was young. I would easily explode for no reason and it felt like rage would burn me from inside. To be honest I never found a better way to deal with this other than simply getting older. At 48 I’m much more relaxed and don’t get that easily upset anymore. There are of course still things that annoy me but it’s by far not that intense anymore.

ExceptionalCow,

I’m running LineageOS on a Moto G42. I bought this device with LOS in mind (also it is one of the very few devices with headphone jack and MicroSD slot). So far I’m happy. I always rooted/custom flashed every device since 2012. I’m no longer rooting anymore though. Shizuku is sufficient for my needs.

Am I even able to root Motorola g73?

I’d really like to be able to root/install lineage OS on my Motorola g73, but it seems it needs custom software written for it to have a custom ROM, or even TWRP, which I need to install Magisk. I could also patch the boot image, but that isn’t distributed by reputable sources for my phone, and my phone would already need to...

ExceptionalCow,

Would Shizuku be an option for you? That’s privilege elevation similar to root but you don’t need to unlock the bootloader for it. Pro is definitely that banking apps and OTA will still work afterwards. Cons are it’s a bit finicky and apps written for root still won’t work if they don’t explicitly work with Shizuku, too (some of them do). You’ll also be able to uninstall apps for user 0 which aren’t uninstallable otherwise (like gboard on G72, when I had one).

ExceptionalCow,

Ok, thanks for letting me know.

ExceptionalCow,

Damn, me too and I was in the same age.

ExceptionalCow,

Why am I not surprised. These birds are among the smartest creatures on Earth and I have to admit I like the irony of them using materials initially made to deter them. They hold the mirror for us…

ExceptionalCow,

Most people won’t for sure.

ExceptionalCow,

ExceptionalCow,

Can't believe nobody's replied yet. But then, I found this community now, so maybe it simply need more users... What has definitely helped most to get some structure in my life was putting a Tasks widget on my Android home screen where my tasks for the day are visible until they're done. Still i procrastinate some tasks but at least I manage the most important things and this helps immensely. ADDitudemag is a good resource, thanks for the hint.

Edit: I absolutely have no clue why the first reply wasn't visible earlier. Maybe a federation issue. But good to see I'm not the only one replying 😊
