I really hope they’ll never ever reduce public offices opening times in my country (which are still reduced are the pandemic). The bureaucracy is already not working due high levels of inefficiency, corruption and absenteeism. It’ll be a nightmare. I’m from 🇮🇹🍕🤌 needless to say

In a serious country that’s true, but we are “creative”. Online platforms are unavailable and offices still with reduced schedules due to “contagion”. Trying to obtain a passport or even an ID is a nightmare.

You are assuming that inflation will stop, but after the new war oil and gas prices (so energy prices, and therefore the price of any retail good) are increasing dramatically. Another cycle of the depressive spiral is coming for Europe… the only positive aspect I can think of is that this part of the world is responsible for the misery and poverty of other areas of the world (say Africa) so in the end this will be a sort of very much due nemesis. But from here to saying that “everything is going to be alright” sounds like gaslighting.

Minimum wage does not exist in all EU countries and, even where it exists, don’t take it for granted. Things change faster than you’d expect.

I think we, as Europeans, missed a chance to help those in need and to stand for the weakest and most defenseless. And I would not be surprised to witness how neighbouring foreign cultures hate us.

You don’t seem to know the South of Europe. Or maybe PIGS should not be even labelled Europe because it looks like a different part of the world, nothing of what you mentioned applies. Collective agreements, minimum wages, measurements to stop exploitative job contracts… what is this Soviet Russia?

Very tolerant… shouldn’t we “on the other side” be more democratic? I wish I could move over as you suggested, unfortunately the only option will be passing away because I’m stuck here. I can’t even get a passport because in my country public offices have stopped working.

Agree to disagree. The old testament is full of YHWH-approved genocides, just a few examples here. It’s not fascism, it’s just religion. It’s part of their culture and not much different from other middle eastern traditions. Which deserve to be studied, understood and respected before frowning upon them with superiority as if in the west we’re enlightened because we have laicism (which we do not even have).

I’m delusional for telling that ancient texts should “respected studied and understood” (as a culture with 5 millennia of history deserves). What would I have been if I had told that the books should be burned and the culture annihilated. To study a text, in my language, implies to put it in the proper context. And my argument was that the roots of today’s mentality are ancient.

It’s happening everywhere, not only in Northern America. We were happy before 2020 and we didn’t know it, but now it’s over.

It does not depend on the image format since the images not displayed are one in webp and the other in png. I am not an expert in how federation (and especially Mastodon/ActivityPub) works though.

I like experimenting and switching, so no choice is ever “final”. Speaking of open source apps: Jerboa is the only native (kotlin+jetpack compose) for Android and its author is one of the very creators of Lemmy itself so he is an authority and I really like his “philosophy”. Thunder offers a very polished and appealing UI/UX. Liftoff is feature rich even though somehow buggy. Apart from the mere app features, the community, the developer attitude, its being an open platform etc. are all factors to consider in my opinion.

The only one that repels me is the one with chips and Nutella. But it’s matter of personal taste. Tomatoes are fruits technically speaking but they’re not sweet. I’m Italy some restaurants offer pizzas with thin slices of apple, balsamic vinegar, nuts and some strongly flavoured cheese (like Gorgonzola) where the contrast between sweet, sour and salty is what they say makes it special.

You are right though: my comment was based on the assumption that, when talking about a traditional dish of a given culture and only limited to that topic, the opinion of someone belonging to that culture is more authoritative than the one of someone else who do not belong to that culture. Which is not true. Even if that opinion is “do whatever you like” 🤣

Not to upset anybody, but after I installed the JetBrains toolbox some months ago, I started having an idea about where their business model is going to. We should be ready to subscribe and pay for the IDEs we use. And considering the amazing work they are doing to maintain the whole ecosystem, it’s worth it. But then I expect customer care for when Gradle builds are broken 🤣
