I saw an effort at trying to systematize solarpunk elsewhere that felt a bit confused, but it reminded me of this. I’m not typically inclined to try to taxonamize everything, but I’ll admit that the appeal definitely isn’t lost on me. This felt useful.
This reminds me of Kintsugi, which is a Japanese art/ philosophy of fixing broken pottery/objects using gold. The idea being that you shouldn’t hide that you repaired something but embrace it because the repair/imperfection is a part of the objects history/being.
I feel like a “Solar Punk” solution to your broken would incorporate this ideal.
Well traditionally, transplanting a brain into any sort of machine has always been portrayed as negatively losing ones humanity. Since Solarpunk is meant to be optimistic there’s inherently friction between those ideas.
But my point is that they use gold because it’s seen as beautiful, that’s why jewelry is gold right. In other forms of fiction the brain is always transplanted into an ugly utilitarian machine (I.E. Robocop, Robotman from Doom Patrol ect.) There’s no reason a machine can’t be beautiful, like a piece of jewelry, cars, apple products. The example you had isn’t “beautiful” at least I don’t think it is.
And if you wanted to practice Kintsugi yourself, you can find kits sold online. I never tried it personally.
IDK isn’t it though, the article mentions the movie directly, I’m assuming that’s where they got the “Metropolis” name. I get what you mean by “solar punk in a large city” and how that’s different but, feel the name is confusing in the context of the article.
I have got my OLED Steamdeck today and made a picture with my old one side by side. The display is a little bit bigger, the touch screen is way better (more like a smartphone).
I can only assume from your inability to answer my question that the answer is yes, you really do talk to people like that. What a strange way to go through life. Why join a social media network just to be antisocial lol.
Angry, no. More confused, I just found your comment interesting and asked you to clarify. You refused to, so I’ll never know what you meant, which is fine. There’s really nothing left to discuss then. Best of luck my friend 🖖.
Think of amps and volts like a hose and water. If you put your thumb over the hose the water shoots out faster. Undervolting works in a similar way. So the goal is to lower the volts but maintain or even increase the amps to improve performance.
This is primarily a podcast, but there is a short article with it. Also worth noting, this podcast came out before the Steam Deck OLED was announced, although it’s possible the participants knew of its existence considering they had an early review unit.
Not to mention every other handheld that’s sold like gangbusters in the past.
Have they though, other than Nintendo. If the PS Vita was making Sony so much money, why no successor? As far I know, the Steam Deck is the only successful non-Nintendo handheld ever.
A total of 22 games sold over a one million copies on the PSP. The number of PSPs sold is irrelevant, the number of games is what matters because most consoles are sold at cost or a loss. People bought the PSP because it was great at running homebrew games. Sony locked that down on the Vita and it sold way worse.
And then you provided a list of other failed attempts to get a piece of the Nintendo handheld market. Just because it was released doesn’t mean it was successful. If the PSP or any of these other handhelds where profitable they would of had successors sold today.
I explained why it didn’t matter, did you read what I wrote? Can you please answer why Sony stopped making the PSP if it was so successful, maybe I’m missing something?
The new Valve Steam Deck OLED didn’t just change the screen: Almost every part of the device has had some sort of revision, from the screws to the power topology of the motherboard. Some of these changes happened silently in the Voyager platform refresh for the Steam Deck, but the majority of large changes are brand new....
They do have that special edition clear one. And technically didn’t they add metal inserts for the screws to go in? Instead of the self tapping screws in the older model, I’m not 100% on that. I know the screws themselves are different for sure.
This is based on benchmarks from Qualcomm, not Internet reviews right? IDK if I’d be buying tickets for the hype train just yet.
Shifting all the software to work on ARM is going to take time. By the time Valve got everything running on ARM, AMD would have released something equal or better by then.
Kind of I guess. Reviewers where allowed to run specific benchmarks approved by Qualcomm on laptops specifically made for Qualcomm at the launch event, not consumer models.
What games run in ARM today? I’m not aware of any games that run nativly on ARM, meaning games would need to be emulate from Windows to Linux, then from x86 to ARM. Not ideal.
And we still don’t have a price. The APU in the Steam Deck is a budget chip, if the X Elite is really 2x the competition Qualcomm will likely be charging almost 2x the price
Only 10% of games are verified for Stream OS, with 40% being listed as unsupported. I’m pretty sure Valve is more focused on stability for Steam OS, switching to ARM only complicates things at the moment. Once they have that figured out they can consider ARM. The games that work on ARM now do so because of developer support, most games aren’t supported yet.
I’m not saying it’s impossible, of course it is. It’s just not the time for the Steam Deck to switch to ARM, SD 3 sounds like a reasonable time to consider it.
I live in New Jersey and all the friends I have that own a home either got financial help from there parents or moved all the way out to West Bumblefuck in order to buy a home.
People also forget that a white woman kissing a Cuban man on TV also wasn’t exactly cool with alot of people in the 50s. Could technically be considered the first interracial kiss 🤷🏻
In reality it was a gradual thing that kind of crept up over time. I said technically earlier because Desi Arnaz is “Technically” white, idk who decides where these lines are drawn, it’s definitely not me lol. William Shatner(cause that’s how he rolls I guess) also kissed actress France Nuyen (half white/half Chinese) on TV, which could also be considered first.
The kiss between Shatner and Nichols is the first kiss between a white and black person on TV. Which if you’re a racist would probably upset you the most so it gets mentioned as the first I guess.
Both terms are clearly defined and people choose to use them wrong, like you did with your examples.
People where always upset with the level of “wokeness” in Star Trek. The difference being that less where aware of it and if you wanted to complain you had to physically write a letter, go down to the post office, buy some stamps, and mail it in. Today you can just tweet some bullshit from your couch.
As a rather left leaning Person I have no problem with TOS beeing “woke” in general.
The way how “woke” ideas are implemented just feels like pandering to the audience. Black, Asian and female characters… At least they got rid of number one after the pilot, no need to pander to the female audience with two women on the bridge crew.
So gay characters should only be in media to tell stories about gay people problems? Is that how you think the real world works, like a gay person never accomplished anything other than progressing the gay agenda. Why can’t there just be a story of a man who does a thing and then goes home to his husband. You know, like how real life works lol.
Woke is an adjective derived from African-American Vernacular meaning “alert to racial prejudice and discrimination”. Woke has been used this way for decades and anyone using it differently is using it incorrectly.
I had this on my wish list from ages ago, it’s on sale for $3.99 now, which is super cheap but I’m not sure if it will work on the deck, or if the game is even worth my time. I’ve already got five other games in the pipe, but if this is really excellent and works well on the deck then I might get it. Thanks for any insight
uxury apartments in premium locations is the first thing I would think of too if I were a developer, but their target buyers don’t sound like the sort of people who currently suffer from the housing crisis.
It’ll have a domino effect, more apartments in Manhattan means less people in Brooklyn, Queens, etc. meaning prices go down in the latter boroughs. I live in Jersey City across the Hudson from Manhattan and a large part of the residents here are just people who can’t afford to live in Manhattan.
are many people going to want to live in expensive converted office spaces if they don’t work near there any longer?
Yes, I used to live in a converted office building in Newark NJ (not far from Manhattan) and really loved it. And yes people will always want to live in NYC and especially Manhattan. Many people, myself included simply prefer living in cities. I’ve also looked for apartments in Manhattan and it’s completely different than anywhere else.
Kinda yeah, why not buy a hatchback instead? The Suzuki being taller will inherently have more wind resistance, hence worse gas milage and Co2. Unless you absolutely need the extra ground clearance, which very very few do, it’s stupid.
I don’t think just because it’s taller it automatically makes it worse.
It makes it get less mpg/range. Also Less “safe” as the higher center of gravity will mean taking emergency maneuvers “swerving to avoid collision” more difficult and the chance of rollover more likely. These are just facts.
And the reason I personally don’t like hatchbacks is because I’m quite tall and I don’t like sitting low as it feels uncomfortable to me and makes getting in and out of a car pain in the ass…
I’m 6’5 and understand where you’re coming from but, your comfort is basically bad for the environment in a small minute way is my point. I’m sure it’s still more efficient then 99% of cars in general by the sound of it though.
The whole point of this post is how cars today emit more Co2 than they did ten years ago. I’m just pointing out that people like you are the reason this is true. The Kona is literally(not figuratively) an i30 jacked up a couple of inches and now emits more Co2.
I’m not judging you or telling you what to buy with your money. Everything I wrote is factual.
The i20 is a smaller car than the i30. When I say the Kona is literally the same car as the i30 I mean literally the same car. Same size, same chassis, same interior, made in the same factory. It’s the same exact car except with one being taller and because of that height gets worse gas milage/more Co2.
If you’re upset that someone wrote an article about your life choices, take it up with them. The authors name is at the top.
Except for all the Mac/iOS Android/Chrome stuff. Or NASA, the NY stock exchange, 50% of servers, Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Department of Defense, Nuclear submarines etc. those run on Linux. But other than those yes, the entire world lol
