Jimmy Fallon apologises to Tonight Show staff after toxic workplace allegations - reports (www.theguardian.com)

Earlier on Thursday, Rolling Stone published allegations from two current and 14 former employees, including production crew and writers, who requested anonymity out of fear of retaliation. Rolling Stone claimed they had approached an additional 80 current and former employees, but “not a single one agreed to speak on the...

CrunchyBoy,

“I’m sorry (this got out).”

CrunchyBoy,

That’s funny, I used to know an Italian with crabs.

CrunchyBoy,

It’s surprising the 90’s didn’t give us a “Speed on a plane” flick. Or did they?

There’s Air Force One, I guess. And there’s probably a Steven Seagal plane movie.

CrunchyBoy,

“Animated Good Internet Find” has bad adjective order, those are GAIFs now.

CrunchyBoy,

I don’t think I’ve spent any money on the Epic Launcher yet but I’m happy to see them try their best. Competition is good and needed.

Are the characters used in syntax of most programming languages dependent on the keys of the standard keyboard or was the standard keyboard made specifically to allow programming with these keys?

The title would probably be confusing, but I could not make it better than this. I noticed that most programming languages are limited to the alphanumerical set along with the special characters present in a general keyboard. I wondered if this posed a barrier for developers on what characters they were limited to program in, or...

CrunchyBoy, (edited )

Fun fact: the standard qwerty layout was made to slow typewriter typing down by putting common keys off the home row and apart from each other. This was done to prevent the little key arm thingies from colliding and jamming when typing quickly.

EDIT: Apparently this is not a fact

I just realized how incredible it is that we don't have toes growing out of our ears.

AFAIK it all boils down to the fact that during embryonal development our cells, which at that point were just a blob of undifferentiated autonomous chemical machines, somehow managed to unanimously agree upon the cardinal directions (up-down, left-right, front-back) for future development - and thanks to this, we don’t have...

CrunchyBoy,

Congrats you invented Rugby 2

CrunchyBoy,

Finally some good fucking news.

CrunchyBoy,

I remember being younger than Bart. Now I’m older than Homer. Next stop: Abe.

CrunchyBoy,

I had one ring for about ten years and I don’t think it was ever noticeable through a t-shirt unless I pointed it out.

CrunchyBoy,

Yeah, I had the same problem. Felt like it never fully healed.

CrunchyBoy,

As a Canadian you should be more concerned with muskeg.

CrunchyBoy,

Ew no. They’re going to taste like silicone and suncreen I bet.

Is personality shift normal?

Ever since I came out to my wife and kids, and started being myself, my personality has changed, a lot. I’m more extroverted, weirdly enough. I’ve been a bit sharper with the kids, not in a mean way, but, more of a no-nonsense kinda way. I used to walk around the house naked all the time, but now I feel compelled to cover...

CrunchyBoy,

Kinda surprised so many people here are alarmed that you were naked in your own home. I mean yeah, if you’re a nudist and in the buff all day every day that’s a problem, but it should be natural for kids to see naked bodies sometimes.

I sleep naked in my bed, or will walk back to the bedroom before taking a shower if I forgot my towel. I don’t hang around and chit chat with my dick hanging out, but kids need to see that people aren’t ashamed of their own bodies.

CrunchyBoy,

Somehow they’ll find a way to pay artists even less.

CrunchyBoy,

I think the “undeniable beauty” bit was a joke.

I think she has a good point at the end. Lots of us think we have skills that can’t be replicated by a machine, but companies would rather have something replicated poorly by a machine if it saves them money.

CrunchyBoy,

True, but I meant to emphasize that the quality of the work is not as important as some people might think. For a lot of bosses the work quality from a machine only needs to be passable, not good. So while one might say “AI would suck at my job, I’m safe” they might need to be worried.

CrunchyBoy,

Pizza Peacemaker. If you’re with a bunch of people with varying tastes and want to order pizza, you open the app and pass your phone around. Each person in turn puts in what they like and how much they want to eat. At the end the app tells you what you should order and how you should split the bill.

CrunchyBoy,

CrunchyBoy,

Younger folks have been raised on apps and other polished devices with oodles of effort put into UX design.

Older folks grew up learning DOS commands, memorizing the IRQ of their sound card, and other clunky shenanigans.

In their current state Lemmy, Mastodon and other services are too complicated for most young folks to bother with. Not all, but most, especially the filthy casuals.

CrunchyBoy,

🎵 These are a few of my favourite things 🎶

CrunchyBoy,

“Do as we say or we won’t let you do free work us any more!”
