Ukraine is winning, just not as quickly as we’d like.
I know some speculate that the west is interested in drawing this out, to bleed the Russian military as much as possible.
But this war is harmful to the west too, most obviously the economy is generally slowing down because of the increased energy cost. Also hunger in African countries could increase unwanted immigration to the west. That’s apart from the purely humanitarian aspect, of innocent Ukrainians suffering the worst of it.
Of course if you are cynical enough to want the war to drag on, the humanitarian aspects are probably irrelevant. But even for the cynical, there are reasons to want Ukraine to win quickly. The Russian war machine is already ruined. Both their capability, but more importantly the poor performance should make any Russian leader think twice before using it again.
I would absolutely love to see Germany go all in on helping Ukraine, Germany is the biggest economy in Europe, and would make a huge difference if they committed.
IDK how much they help compared to others, but I know it was a historic event that they gave any military help at all. Because they’ve held back all the years since WW2. So that’s quite an accomplishment for Putin on top of everything else, like expansion of NATO and increased military budgets in many NATO countries.
I think it seems like a pretty impressive list of help though.
Oh boy poor Elon Musk, now the ADL (Anti Defamation League) is sabotaging him again. How they do it IDK, but who else could it be?
Good that Elon Musk is taking his strong case against them to court. Because one thing is 100% sure, it’s not Elon Musk and his very clever decisions that are the cause of the problems for the thing formerly known as Twitter.
We used to have trolleybuses when I was a kid in the 70’s, they were so insanely much more nice to ride than a diesel. No bad smell, and they were smooth and quiet.
I guess we will get back to something similar soon, but with batteries.
Yes in some aspects, it’s like we are moving backwards. Funny since the talk about environment is more serious now than back then, still we often use unnecessarily polluting solutions, where the older “too expensive” solutions were viable when we had way less money as a country than we have now?
One would have thought the oil crisis had made us keep the trolley busses?
Twitter was worth around $22 billion, when Elon bought it at $44 billion, but to help pay for it, half of that is borrowed by Twitter to pay for itself! Yes you can do that.😋
So now the company is worth about $22 bil less, because it has new debt.
In my book 22-22 = 0 = zero = nul = naught = zip
On top of that, the original value has declined dramatically, with about 60% decline in revenue that we know of. So the internal value is actually way below 0, but a limited company cannot be worth less than 0, so it remains 0.
The company is insolvent, which means it’s basically bankrupt, except it’s not declared yet. The only possible slight value it may have left, is for tax deductions on the losses.
Since it’s not a stock company, the valuation is speculative.
But the company being insolvent, and running on a deficit without prospective og turning a profit. Would by normal measures render the company worthless, except if there is a tax benefit to take over.
Musk can value it at whatever he wants, I strongly doubt he will find a buyer at any price.
According to Microsoft almost everything from Microsoft is cross platform, because it works in both Windows 10 and 11. That’s good enough for Microsoft to be cross platform. I’m not even kidding!

Funny you are saying that, at a time where the government is more unpopular than it has been in a long time. It’s unpopular on both the left and right, and even among members of the government parties. Sorry if it offends, but you sound a bit like maybe you’re in a dark place. Or maybe you are just trolling IDK.

Was thinking about this in terms of AI. As we create it we are probably going to put fail safes on it. So it would be reasonable then to assume if we were created the same thing would be programmed in us.
In May Fidelity wrote down the value of its stake in the company then still known as Twitter, giving it a value of about $15 billion – or just a third of what Musk paid, The Wall Street Journal Reported.
I think even that was not realistic, and back in May things were not as bad yet as they are now at “The thing formerly known as Twitter”. I doubt anyone would buy it at even half that now. Musk added a debt of $20 billion, that’s about what it was worth at the time Musk bought it.
With that debt, the company became basically worth Zero. Even at the estimate when Musk bought it.
If the $20 billion debt was somehow removed, it would still be worth less than $10 billion. Meaning that its current actual worth is probably below negative $10 billion! Meaning the only value is the tax value of the deficit. And no creditors get paid. It’s basically already bankrupt, unless someone pumps in more money, and I’m not seeing that happening with a company as bad as “The thing formerly known as Twitter”.
Seems like the only way forward now, is bankruptcy and maybe reconstruction after selling the company without the debt for peanuts.
No, you don’t throw away $44 billion just for shit and giggles, not even if you are as rich as Musk. Musk is (probably) a narcissist who thought he could make it work in his delusional mind.
He wanted a mouthpiece for the MAGA crowd, and he probably thought the desire in the population for it, would make it succeed, if he made the platform embrace that. He probably envisioned himself as a great liberator, who would be celebrated for bringing free speech back to America.
Musk has been losing it for a long time, and it seems to only get worse.
Yes, and even the name is probably almost worthless now, he has massacred everything including the original name. It’s to bad, because the original concept was OK, and could probably have survived without the insanity Musk brought.
I agree, but I don’t see the point in this context?
The software to build and run Twitter, is probably not worth much besides for running Twitter. No Twitter means no value in the software for it either.
I agree, you can’t create something similar easily, it’s like to “Google it”. Nobody would dream to say “Bing it” or “Yahoo it”. If they had achieved dominance instead of Google we might, but you can’t just change such things.
Even if X should become somewhat popular, to X it doesn’t really work.
So even with a new service as popular as Twitter used to be, it’s unlikely to replace the term “to tweet”. It could simply go back to “to message” IDK. That would work disregarding of platform name, but would lack the brilliance of tweeting on Twitter.
Absolutely true, being humiliated is just about the worst thing for a narcissist.
An example of that, was when Elon Musk called the diver who actually rescued 13 children in Thailand a pedophile. Imagine that, calling the hero of the day a pedophile because you are butthurt!!
Ah yes, I can see that could make sense. But I think Musk considers himself as much a software guy as hardware, because he works with AI for Tesla. Putting him somewhat on the cutting edge of software too. Twitter should be child’s play by comparison.
Of course Musk has managed to bring Tesla from a competitive position to be way behind the main field, with just a few very stupid decisions. Mercedes, GM and Waymo are now way ahead of Tesla, and Nvidia and MobilEye are probably ahead too.
Of course Musk is now attempting to slow AI development overall, because he is way behind. With suggestions like preventing AI development until we have better regulation and understanding. He is trying to repeat how he stopped investments in public transport with hyperloop. Only this time with AI, because he is losing that battle badly.
He made a huge mistake, either because he was under the influence, or because he is delusional. That doesn’t mean he actually intended to throw out $44B just for shit an giggles. Obviously he didn’t when he sobered up.
We (Denmark) are getting F35 now, so I’m guessing some of those F16 were to be phased out anyway.
Also we have made an arrangement with Sweden, Norway and Finland creating a mutual airforce. Having the aid of Sweden alone, more than compensates, they have several times more fighter jets than we have.
Seems to me a color picker confirms white and gold. Although the white has a bluish tint, some areas don’t even have that, and are light grey. There is no doubt the gold (black) is different tones between brown and yellow, which is the RGB you’d expect for a gold color.
I just saved your image and loaded it into GIMP, and the correct value for the brownish color shown as selected is RGB(256): 78,66,39. (decimal) The same value for both the selection in the read square, and the one left of the RGBA value that is wrong. Brown and yellow colors are dominated by red and green, the RGB value shown in your picture can’t possibly match the color shown as the selected color.
Yes but that could for instance be due to traffic coming from the passenger side that the driver is less likely to see in time. That would be irrelevant to this case.
