Aux,

The best Linux is Windows 11 with WSL. It will work nicely with your battery.

Aux,

Imagine buying an expensive thing and using 10% of its capabilities.

Aux,

Ukraine has already lost. No amount of aid will help.

Aux,

Reddit doesn’t have dead clones. Lemmy is full of them.

Aux,

We’re talking about dead clones here, which pollute Lemmy.

Aux,

You want privacy? Turn your phone off.

Aux,

You can change IMEI at will. IMEI doesn’t do shit.

Aux,

Idk, NMS is bloody amazing!

Aux,

From the start. I mean survival is part of the game. What did you expect?

Aux,

Oh, another fan of living in a stone age.

Aux,

If the power goes out on a global scale, you won’t be able to spend cash either.

Aux,

Since forever.

Aux,

Cash is traceable in most countries for decades now. Cash doesn’t mean privacy.

Aux,

Cash is traceable for decades now. Don’t worry, everyone knows what you’re doing.

Aux,

I understand that it’s a meme and all, but, guys and gals, please, use a secure password manager and never type a password again!

Aux,

Which company? Ever heard of KeePass?

Aux,

Don’t you have multiple devices, most of which are unlocked with a fingerprint or a PIN? Literally a non-issue.

Aux,

What? Check the app, it cannot sell anything and there’s nothing to steal. Man…

Aux,

You don’t use your phone with static elements for as long as you use your monitor.

Aux,

If you work 8 hours a day from home and then do a couple of hours of browsing, your 5000 hours will expire in two years. That’s a bloody joke to buy a new monitor every two years! And don’t get me started on that fucking pentile layout…

Aux,

What do you do in your life that your phone screen is for 7 hours straight? I guess you’re just imagining things.

Also, while I don’t know which phone you have, stock Android changes the status bar constantly. For example, you scroll your Insta feed and it’s light grey with dark grey icons. You tap on a video and now it’s black with light grey icons. Then you switch to Maps and now it’s semi-transparent and each pixel changes every time you move the map around.

Button bar on the bottom also changes non stop together with app theme. And button icons change all the time. Android doesn’t have a single static element on the screen. And you NEVER keep screen on for 7 hours straight. It is completely different to office or industrial work. Heck, even my IPS gets a temporary burn-in (ghosting) all the bloody time!

You can check LTT video about LG TV Linus was using for work. He was so happy about it at first. One year later - it’s a total burnt garbage.

Aux,

Wealth is not money, can’t buy bread with a staircase.

Aux,

That’s my point. Owning a home doesn’t make anyone rich. Owning multiple homes which generate income is a different thing, but people here assume is that if you bough a house in London 20 years ago for pennies, then today you are a fucking Bezos swimming in money. That’s not the case.

Aux,

If you leverage your equity to buy bread, you’ll be homeless very soon.

Aux,

It doesn’t increase out of thin air.

Aux,

We’re not talking about Musk here. Most home owners can’t leverage their equity to buy some bread.

Aux,

You’re confusing house price with equity.

Aux,

Do you even read?

Why do most people refuse to accept that they are wrong

I have come across a lot’s of people like these. like 99% of them. Sometimes it makes me think twice if what i am saying is wrong? What’s wrong with them. Is it so hard to swallow your pride and acknowledge that the other person is speaking facts? When they come to know they are wrong they proceed to insult/make fun of...

Aux,

Go see a doctor then.

Aux,

Go see a doctor for sure.

Aux,

Sichuan frogs legs are amazing.

Aux,

Doesn’t your country just have a few standard designs you just copy/paste everywhere?

Aux,

I see. It’s just that here in the UK a lot of infrastructure like that is literally just copy paste boxes. I’m from a xUSSR country originally and there all the infrastructure is just factory built all the same stuff. Something custom is super rare. I guess everyone knows copy pasted Soviet house blocks, so yeah, infrastructure is the same.

Aux,

QA what? You can’t QA and optimise huge ass textures to fit into a gig. I can tell you a story about high res images. My partner is a photographer. She did a commissioned project of 7 collage photos to be printed in large scale. She bought a 512 gig drive to work on a project. These 7 photos took 95% of the space of this drive in the end. Yeah, 500 gigs for 7 bloody photos!

Aux,

They are collages, meaning that each PSD file contains multiple super high res photos. But the end result is just 7 huge pictures on the wall.

As for the final pixel size, I don’t remember now, but they’re over 100mpx of 32 bit per channel of image data (that’s 16 bytes per each pixel instead of regular 4).

Aux,

Unless someone from Biobank has strong Tory connections. Then it’s all good.

Aux,

Just find a job which you love and which pays a lot, problem solved!

Aux,

Not by a cheetah. They are easily scared and will run away even from smaller opponents.

Aux,

The communication method doesn’t mean anything security wise. Here’s a simple example.

Device #1 is an ESP32 based WiFi device with your own firmware. It won’t phone its Chinese parent company every hour because you made the firmware yourself. It’s no less secure or more wrong than using your phone hooked to your WiFi.

Device #2 is a ZigBee device. It doesn’t have any connection to the internet. But you need a hub to interact with it and you decide to use Amazon Echo for simplicity. Now your house is fully owned by Bezos.

You need to inspect every device to see if they suit your needs.

Aux,

Qualcomm chip won’t be binary compatible with Apple chips, so nothing will change for you.

Aux,

M3 is not faster than any AMD or Intel. And PC chips are using very old process nodes. Once Intel gets to 2nm, Apple chips will feel like dumbphone SOCs from the early 2000-s running J2ME applets.

Aux,

Who knows? Intel works in mysterious ways.

Aux,

10nm.

In what world does a VPN need access to Camera and Bluetooth? (i.imgur.com)

I am fully aware of what vpn services to use and not. I am not using Express VPN, I am simply doing research for a master thesis, when I came across these results from Express VPN. If you have any ideas or corrections, please let me know why a VPN provider would need to have access to these permissions....

Aux,

You don’t want to scan secure QR codes through Google APIs. You can be at risk of Google stealing the contents.

Aux,

But you’ll need access to the camera then.

Aux,

Mate, you need to give access rights to someone. The camera won’t open magically. The reality is that it’s safer to do everything inside your app, especially when you advertise security.

Ways to pirate music as convenient as Spotify?

The reason I gave up on MP3’s and subscribed to Spotify was because Spotify was easy. I’ve been listening “Iron Maiden - Empire of the Clouds” song every day and like a week ago, its removed. This was the last straw for me. Right now I’m trying to find “Stremio” of the music world. Can someone assist?...

Aux,

Spotify is pretty much the only quality tool to learn about new music which fits your taste. Google services tend to disappear after a while, like Google Music did, and the only other option is Apple Music I guess, but I’ve never used it, so not sure.

I remember the days before Spotify still: downloading gigs of music, only 1% is ok, loads of time wasted. Fuck it, I’ll pay for Spotify and then download what I like for permanent collection. My time is a lot more worth than a subscription fee.

Aux,

What if you self host in AWS and Amazon decides to fuck you over? What if you decide to self from home and your ISP decides fuck you over? What if? So many what ifs… How do you even live in this world?
