I’ve been on Lemmy and Mastodon for a little while but still not super active on either, and haven’t really kept up with fediverse stuff as a whole....
Politics (any kind) is a part of any social order (except anarchy, of course) and is emedded in human behavior. You do politics from a toddler (get candy for being a good boy/girl). So, if you can’t even have that, yeah, I’d say they’re doomed.
Yep, Mercedes is NOTHING what it used to be… they put in Peugeot engines in new models 🤦… which is not bad, but at the price these cars sell, excuse me, but I want a Mercedes engine in there.
In contrast to LED printers, laser printers require combinations of rotating mirrors and lenses that must remain in alignment throughout their use. The LED print head has no moving parts, and the individual assemblies tend to be more compact.
Yeah, thought as much. LEDs are cheaper than lasers, so stack a bunch of them in a line, polarise the drum, bam, you have an image.
Basically, this is the only advantage. And laser heads break very very rarely. You litelarly have to drop the printer from a considerable height in order to break the laser head mechanism.
But, I can see the appeal. Laser heads and mechanisms are more expensive to manufacture.
Some… all Merc engines go on forever. You bought a Merc, first 500.000km you’re basically warming up the engine. People bought second hand Mercs with 400.000km on them, not a single doubt that it might fail.
A charity I’m volunteering for and a contractor I know insist I have a facebook account for contact reasons. So far I got the obvious tiennamen square posting and that gay putin pic, but...
Plastic seals food, sterile medical implements, medicine, beverages, etc… it’s seems like plastic is used as a way to seal things safely. Post pandemic rising, I see even more. Life cycle analysis studies show that some bioplastics can be made with a lower carbon footprint than their fossil counterparts, for example when biomass is used as raw material and also for energy production. However, other bioplastics’ processes are less efficient and result in a higher carbon footprint than fossil plastics.
Make your own instance, defederate from everyone, make 20 accounts, disable account registration, post from 2 or 3 accounts, upvote from the rest and make conversations.
Yeah, it’s becoming more like FB… like if you post a sexy pic of Mia Khalifa licking a popsicle, you get banned. I think Mia’s face is like a ban trigger now on FB.
No, A doesn’t get the content from C, but if C is not defederated from A, yes, C gets the posts from A (feed). It’s called asymmetric defederation. For example, that’s the case with sh.itjust.works and beehaw.org. Those of us that subscribed to communities on beehaw.org before it defederated from us, we still get posts from beehaw in our feed, but beehaw doesn’t get any from us. And if we actually comment on the post, that comment will be visible only to members of sh.itjust.works, no one else in the federation, because the sync feed from beehaw takes presence over ours, so the instances that can talk to beehaw, get the sync feed from beehaw first (or if it arrives second, ours is discarded, because beehaw is the original instance on which the post was made).
Yep, I can confirm, I visit it about once a day, the content is… boring, to say the least. IDK, it feels like it lost it’s soul. I still need it, cuz of Void, but other than that… no. I’d drop it completely if it wasn’t for the Void sub.
r/voidlinux. Someone already started one (says unofficial, since the one on reddit is official, run by the Void maintainers), but there are very few posts there. Not enough content to actually get engaged. Plus, the maintainers were the ones that always gave the best advice over at r/voidlinux and they’re not here with no plans to move whatsoever (there was a post on r/voidlinux about what the Void community is going to do in the blackout, it got deleted). They see the subreddit as a means to an end (they just don’t wanna hassle with maintaining a forum, so they use reddit).
That is to be expected. Most teens are on mainstream media. They’re still young, their friends are there and are still not fed up of the ads and all the BS noise. When you start getting older, you urge for more than just brainless memes and social circle drama, so you start looking for new places.
You can find the settings of what a certain app can access in Manage Apps in Settings. The permissions that each app has are listed there. You can revoke some of them, but some apps will just fail to start with all of them revoked.
What's your wider fediverse setup?
