The NL is voting to cut the 30% ruling. This will affect academics, they will not come to the , if they have to pay half the salary or more for housing. I think this is not the place to get the budget for student grants, they can be found elsewhere for sure. Otherwise, students will have grants but no professors, and we know some universities are short of staff. @academicchatter

in - in 1609, Judith Leijster was baptized in the - the daughter of a brewer, she likely started art lessons to help pay for her family's needs. By 1629, she'd painted her first known/signed work and by 1633 she was a member of the Haarlem Guild of St Luke (possibly the first woman member!). Well-respected by her contemporaries, she saw success in her lifetime, but she was forgotten, her works attributed to someone else, until 1893.

EU House stresses ‘side-effects’ of Romania, Bulgaria Schengen blockade

A non-binding European Parliament resolution adopted on Wednesday calls for Bulgaria and Romania to join the border-free Schengen area by the end of the year, stressing severe side effects for the two countries’ citizens and slamming Austria for blocking their accession without a legitimate reason.

Be ungovernable, like birds who make nests OUT OF ANTI-BIRD SPIKES. A new study describes resourceful Dutch & Belgian corvids besting evil architecture by stealing metal anti-bird strips and using them like thorny twigs, to construct their homes.

Like thorns, the spikes may protect their nests from predators.

Lead author Auke-Florian Hiemstra wrote an epic 🧵 about his research that's worth a read: https://twitter.com/AukeFlorian/status/1678703433900064773
