Canada, Britain and main EU countries join Myanmar genocide case
Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Britain have teamed up to join the genocide case over Myanmar's treatment of the Muslim Rohingya minority before the UN's top court in The Hague.

#OnThisDay in #history - in 1609, Judith Leijster was baptized in the #Netherlands - the daughter of a brewer, she likely started art lessons to help pay for her family's needs. By 1629, she'd painted her first known/signed work and by 1633 she was a member of the Haarlem Guild of St Luke (possibly the first woman member!). Well-respected by her contemporaries, she saw success in her lifetime, but she was forgotten, her works attributed to someone else, until 1893. #OTD#histodons@histodons
EU House stresses ‘side-effects’ of Romania, Bulgaria Schengen blockade
A non-binding European Parliament resolution adopted on Wednesday calls for Bulgaria and Romania to join the border-free Schengen area by the end of the year, stressing severe side effects for the two countries’ citizens and slamming Austria for blocking their accession without a legitimate reason.
