It’s related to the cucamelon (M scabra) and is also a perennial. Pictured fruits are ripe. When they turn darker green they are no longer edible and when they are black, are stinky and work like ipecac.
Please let me know if you want seeds to this when I pass out native edible seeds this fall. More in AltText.
Looking towards next season, I need some recommendations for seed supplier. I used to buy mine at Wilko's, but they're closing, so where would you recommend I switch to?
Will they every bloom, I wonder. Junior Woodchucks' Guidebook says that Salvia hispanica is a “short-day flowering plant”, which will not happen here in Denmark until 3+ weeks from now, and meanwhile the temperatures are dropping. The plants are over 1 m tall at this point, so I'd rather not take the pot inside.
Anyway, a couple of bush crickets have been enjoying the forest for a good while now, so that's a reward in itself.
One of the hardest things to part with for this move. My own little space where many things happened. There will always be another one, tho. #gardening@gardening 1/2
I have to show the end result
All stones moved. Gravel and one of the benches in place … That bench is for sitting in the shade under the bean tree on hot days when it flowers in spring and the air is full of buzzing bumblebees 🐝🐝🐝🐝
Look what I found on the pavement outside my house. It looks like an elephant hawk moth. I watched it for a while & it didn't seem to like what was growing there, so I moved it into my garden. Checked later on the web & it says they like willow herb, which is in the garden. Have a good life, big guy. #gardening@gardening
Yep, definitely that time of the year! A lot of this is going to be given away. It is far too much for a 2 person household. 😁. These are the tomatoes that are left after using 5 pounds to make a batch of sauce.
My cyclamen are up. They did this last year, too, if I remember correctly. They actually bloom a lot, these guys, & at different times during the year. #gardening@gardening
I've picked, roasted, and frozen the last of the cherry tomatoes. They got blight, thanks to the terrible weather, but they did OK. These tomatoes are ripening now in the small greenhouse. They're from seeds saved last year from shop-bought tomatoes and have done very well. 🌱 #Gardening#Tomatoes#GrowYourOwn@gardening
My #SixOnSaturday shows that we are heading towards Autumn here in zone 5. The large sedums are just starting to bloom and the Solomon's Seal and Solomon's Plume have berries. The "Plume" berries aren't totally ripe yet.
I only have names for 2 of the sedums. The lower right corner is Mr. Goodbud (still in its pot and waiting to be planted) and just above it is Back In Black.
Current state of the driveway vegetable garden. In the back, cherry tomatoes covering the 2-meter-high fence, corn that’s so close!, lots of peppers (serrano, jalapeño, najareno, Poblano, and ají amarillo), and a few other odds and ends.
This started as 3 plug size plants this spring. It's clearly something we are going to have to keep watching so that it doesn't take over. It is just starting to come into bloom. The flowers are just starting and should be more impressive soon.
Morning glory Grandpa Otts: this electric beauty surprises me every morning as its trumpets open at different places on the vine. I managed to keep the slugs off (garlic spray!) when they were babies, so now about a dozen plants are climbing through the August garden. Each flower opens for just one day. But what a day.
The morning glory on ivy combo is gonna work so well: the rather young morning glory in a pot near an ivy covered wall has already climbed to nearly 2 m. Come springtime, and I will sow most of my morning glory seeds under the ivy. 😍
Ich habe aus Spaß 6 Kerne einer Zitrone in die Erde gesetzt. Nach 8 Tagen sind die ersten 3 Bäumchen ausgetrieben (Bild 1). Jeden weiteren Tag kamen weitere dazu. Jetzt habe ich einen Zitronenbaumwald 🌳 🍋 👍.
