@donkeyherder@gardening In the UK I’d leave them on the vine as long as I can before frost. In your climate I would harvest the ripe ones earlier and cure them in sunshine (if safe from frosts) for a couple of weeks before storing.
@BroadforkForVictory@gardening the one thing unusual about this year is that we’ve been in a low key drought all summer, after a nice wet winter and spring. I’m doing drip irrigation so the plants don’t care, but the ground isn’t soggy and we’re only getting light rains right now. It’s perfect weather for things to ripen slowly on the vines. I might even get ripe melons!
@donkeyherder@gardening Obviously I’d hope a little more rain comes your way but it does sound ideal for squash ripening on the vines. This is where I’d normally ask how long your growing season goes to and when your first frosts will be but I couldn’t answer those questions myself with any certainty anymore.
@BroadforkForVictory@gardening I mean we only moved here in 2021, so I’d just be looking up the answer myself!
I thumbnailed several of them and one delicata is ready, but the rest are soft. I’m gonna wait until I need a fall roasted veggies tray before I pick it.
