@pivic@bookstodon I hate Goodreads, I had an account in its early days and loved how I could add all the books I own to an online library, but a lot of the reviews are just mean. I deleted my account a long time ago. I've read about the recent review bomb campaigns against new authors and it's awful but not surprising. It's such a toxic culture there.
@pivic@bookstodon one of the strangest things about #goodreads is how absolutely terrible its algorithm is at recommendations. You might assume that Daddy #Bezos and #Amazon would know how to make that work but its truly awful. I think I'm like a lot of people in that I use it to track what I'm reading and ignore most of the social functions.
@eddeeMN@pivic@bookstodon i know this is not compliant with feelings of most of the users here, but sometimes I wish there was an algorithm similar to TikTok's one, to help me finding a new book every time I finish one I love.
@eddeeMN@pivic@bookstodon That's been how I've used it for ages. I'm not even going to do that next year. Just going to use a spreadsheet. Spreadsheets are much more fun than Goodreads.
Really now my only reason to still be a member on there is to make sure the details of my books (that is, the ones wot I wrote) are on there and correct.
@beecycling@eddeeMN@bookstodon I'd rather use one of the two sites that I recommended than Goodreads. It's hard to change some erroneous book data via Goodreads. It's easy via The StoryGraph (most often requires moderation via the company) and instantaneous via most Bookwyrm instances.
