‘It’s totally unhinged’: is the book world turning against Goodreads? https://www.theguardian.com/books/2023/dec/18/goodreads-review-bombing

I hate Goodreads. The site is just a continuation of Amazon as a surveillance capitalist nightmare, one that's never updated. Bugs are rife.

I prefer Bookwyrm and The StoryGraph:

Everything's fine, by Cecilia Rabess. He's white, rich, works in finance, has rich friends, votes for Trump. She's black, very smart, is doing ok but her career doesn't fly, has rich friends, mostly white. The book tells their story and it's all in the present tense, giving a feel of inevitability to it all. The story of how you can end up being in a relationship with someone who has very different views to yours. A story that is left incomplete, because how long can you go on telling yourself that Everything's Fine?
As someone who's being slowly finding herself, life's much better on the other side

In case you missed it, the Fediverse has an alternative to Amazon's Goodreads called BookWyrm, which is a social reading platform.

Existing Goodreads users can import their data into BookWyrm.

BookWyrm's entry on fedi.tips is now updated with common questions answered:

UPDATE:

To clarify -- the below feature lets you use the same credentials for PixelFed to create a new PixelFed account, importing your avatar, bio and followed accounts.

ORIGINAL:

Apparently, it is possible to use one's Mastodon account to log into Pixelfed. Is it possible to do that with Bookwyrm and Peertube? I'd like to have a seamless login instead of having to create separate accounts for each service I want to use:

The public library I used to work at hosted a couple events where children got to read to dogs from the shelter. I forget the organization's name, but I knew about it since college. It was one of most popular scheduled programs even though the children's department did smell of dog for a while.
