I'll post about the work we're doing to think about the future of our software, the challenges and successes behind some of our technical initiatives, and support for #languages and #accessibility across 400+ languages and locales.
I'm super hyped to geek out about free and open software online!
Unfortunately we had a small outage this weekend, but this is a good opportunity to remind everyone that you can download entire copies of #Wikipedia and other freely licensed projects for #offline use via #Kiwix!
Check out @kiwix - https://www.kiwix.org and set it up on your smartphone or laptop or boat so you can access free knowledge wherever you go.

The Wikimedia Foundation, which serves as the non-profit host for #Wikipedia, @wikidata, @mediawiki, and other free knowledge projects, has joined the Fediverse as @wikimediafoundation - welcome!!
There is a #Wikipedia proposal [0] to modify the 'Find general sources' template [1]. The template is used on nearly a million Wikipedia pages (esp. talk pages, not articles). Knowledge review circulates between search engines + meta-search engines, academic peer-reviewed papers, and Wikipedia - should #SurveillanceCapitalism retain its power here? This #OpenKnowledge decision-making is #transparent and #participatory.
How can advocacy for a search engine monopoly be reduced (by practical editorial changes) in the English-language #Wikipedia?
This is a fundamental meta-academic question (reviews of knowledge) for which practical participation - with evidence and arguments - would be better than postmodernist gobbledegook or neoliberal empty rhetoric.
