"Finally, and perhaps most importantly, it is stressed that artificial algorithms attempt to mimic only the conscious function of parts of the cerebral cortex, ignoring the fact that, not only every conscious experience is preceded by an unconscious process but also that the passage from the unconscious to consciousness is accompanied by loss of information."
"In this study, we developed a soft robotic model of the right heart that accurately mimics RV biomechanics and hemodynamics, including free wall, septal and valve motion."

The terrible human toll in Gaza has many causes.
A chilling investigation by +972 highlights efficiency:
An engineer: “When a 3-year-old girl is killed in a home in Gaza, it’s because someone in the army decided it wasn’t a big deal for her to be killed.”
An AI outputs "100 targets a day". Like a factory with murder delivery:
"According to the investigation, another reason for the large number of targets, and the extensive harm to civilian life in Gaza, is the widespread use of a system called “Habsora” (“The Gospel”), which is largely built on artificial intelligence and can “generate” targets almost automatically at a rate that far exceeds what was previously possible. This AI system, as described by a former intelligence officer, essentially facilitates a “mass assassination factory.”"
"The third is “power targets,” which includes high-rises and residential towers in the heart of cities, and public buildings such as universities, banks, and government offices."
#AI#Habsora estimates in advance the number of innocents killed for each "generated" bombing target:
"Five different sources confirmed that the number of civilians who may be killed in attacks on private residences is known in advance to Israeli intelligence, and appears clearly in the target file under the category of “collateral damage.”
According to these sources, there are degrees of collateral damage, according to which the army determines whether it is possible to attack a target inside a private residence. “When the general directive becomes ‘Collateral Damage 5,’ that means we are authorized to strike all targets that will kill five or less civilians — we can act on all target files that are five or less,” said one of the sources."
#IDI stands for the Intelligence Division of the Israel army. Here is some praise of technology usage:
May 2021 "is the first time that the intelligence services have played such a transformative role at the tactical level.
This is the result of a strategic shift made by the IDI [in] recent years. Revisiting its role in military operations, it established a comprehensive, “one-stop-shop” intelligence war machine, gathering all relevant players in intelligence planning and direction, collection, processing and exploitation, analysis and production, and dissemination process (PCPAD)".
This week I facilitated a session in a mechanical engineering course on values-sensitive stakeholder analysis. We talked about social and political challenges around renewable energy siting and how considering stakeholder values in design can improve outcomes for all.
Lengpui #airport in #Mizoram is quite an #engineering marvel. A lot of hills were ‘grinded’ down so a plane could land. Around the time it was being built, an MLA of the opposition MNF party famously said, “Not even a crow will land on that place. It’s for Lalthanhawla (the CM at the time) and his cronies’ way of making money.” Credit to the ruling INC government of the time who pushed the central government that Mizoram needs this airport
The state government currently controls its operation but I hear that the IAF is salivating to take over it and run it on the lines of the one in #Pune.
This week I taught an ethics session in a class on engineered living materials. Before class we read about a brick made of plant fiber, fungus, and programmable bacteria, which could make temporary structures in disaster areas. In class we played a game about decision-making in that context, and discussed their ethical reasoning.
ETH Zurich is developing a new radiation-robust microcontroller that uses the triple lock-step method to validate its own computational results. The basis for this is a RISC-V based design.
Lockstep is nothing completely new in the RISC-V area either, but the focus on energy consumption is interesting. Perfect for satellites!
Hello again #Brighton people, once again I am looking for a room to rent for a newly minted #refugee, also from #Eritrea, also a woman, but this time mid twenties. She is super lovely and has a background in #geology and #engineering
Mazie’s Amazing Machines should interest young inspiring inventors and engineers ! It is a fun and really smart read ! I love how the author explains the functioning of each machine at the end of the book. It is the perfect read for young dreamers who want to imagine great things !
An advanced computer-aided design program, called AD2000, available from Control Data Corp., helps to automate the industrial design and drafting process. It was used to create this automotive component model displayed on a computer graphics terminal (1978).
We have received the first A-samples of our new V2X ("Vehicle-to-X") Nodes!
V2X Nodes are part of our Advanced Modular Prototyping System #AMPS.
This is very exciting for us, since it's one of the most complex Nodes so far and packed with features.
This Node enables you to plug in a Raspberry Pi CM4 (or any other compatible alternative) as well as M.2 cards and Raspberry Pi HATs or even Adafruit FeatherWings. V2X radio is on-board.
V2X technology enables vehicle-to-(anything) communication, e.g. for traffic control, traffic warnings, etc.
