The great science fiction writer Leigh Brackett was #BOTD
The “Queen of Space Opera” wrote SF/F for the pulps of the 1940s and 1950s. In 1944 she wrote her first mystery novel, which came to the attention of legendary director Howard Hawks. When Hawks needed help on an adaptation of Raymond Chandler’s ‘The Big Sleep’…
But instead of heading to Hollywood after the end of the pulps, Edmond ended his long career at DC Comics. She died from cancer in 1978, but not before turning in the first draft script for what would become “The Empire Strikes Back!” Although her script was rewritten by others, many key elements remain.
...he told his secretary to "get this guy Brackett." She then left for Hollywood, leaving a half-finished tale for Planet Stories 'Lorelei of the Red Mist'. She asked her emerging writer friend to complete it for her, which Ray Bradbury did seamlessly. Her husband was another SF/F writer of the era, Edmond Hamilton.
I'm really making my characters suffer in this one... 😳 After writing this scene, I've just considered what I've done to my main characters so far in this story. It's pretty brutal. And this isn't even supposed to be a horror...

Hi Steve, nice to meet you in the Fediverse.
Unfortunately my author site is currently under reconstruction after a provider change and the conversion to Joomla5. However, my novels of the NEBULAR series can be found in almost all common eBook stores, in German, French, English, and recently also in Italian, Spanish and Dutch translation. At the moment, the first 42 novels and 11 anthologies are still bound at Amazon and available for Kindle Unlimited, but by the end of the year I will release them from the contract and offer them again in all stores. Currently I have 75 novels published (an Addition of three more as a spin-off) and I am about to publish the next regulär one shortly. Some examples for my novels, attached. #autorenleben#selfpublisher#sciencefiction#spaceopera#ebooks
@bookstodon Somebody here reminded me of them and I remembered I liked one or two back in the last century, so I guess I’m reading the whole Liaden universe series now #SpaceOpera
I read this book last year and I loved it so much, it's one of my all-time favorite books. So of course I had to tell my friend Kriti about it, and now that she's read it too, we had a little chat about it! Check it out at : https://armedwithabook.com/the-last-gifts-of-the-universe/
This book also recently won #SPFSC which I was so excited to hear about! (Check out more amazing #SelfPublished sci-fi books at @spsfc ).
