#Scifi: We've got this great time machine technology.

Me: Great! Let me have a go!

Scifi: Sure, just take your clothes off.

Me: I have to take my clothes off?

Scifi: It only works if you're naked.

Me: OK ... Let me try the interstellar flight instead.

Scifi: Sure. I'll get the hibernation unit ready. In the meantime, just whip your clothes off.

Me: I see. How about I upload my mind the to central computer?

Scifi: Great idea! We need to operate. All you need to do is ...

Dare to Know (James Kennedy) 6/10

This is either a 4/10 or an 8/10 and since I can't figure out which I'm splitting the difference.

Told in first person, this is a story of the midlife crisis of a man whose profession is predicting the precise time of death for clients.

The entire book comes off dark, grimy, and more than a little incoherent/trippy. It's on purpose, but is very jarring.

I either liked it a lot or kinda hated it. I'm not sure which.

I’m. On. Fire! The second writing session of the day (776 words) was even more productive than the first (765 words). 1541 words so far today. If my math is off, cut me a break…wasn’t my best subject. My new character, (name), did a lot in the scene I wrote. #SciFi #WritersOfMastodon #ScienceFiction

May have also bought this today. 🫢

Loved The Martian, and Artemis was okay, but this is supposed to be excellent.

My Kids love , and I am so sick of . I just want that I can watch with the whole family.

I used to watch Star Trek with my dad and family several times a week while growing up, and I'd love to do that with my kids now. We are sorely lacking

Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley. You live 600 years in the future, as imagined 100 years ago, which is still racist and sexist, but especially classist by design through genetic and social engineering, so that everyone is happy in their assigned caste, yet you are still somehow vaguely unhappy. 2 of 5 library cats 🐈 🐈

For those interested, I've a little free sci-fi/cyberpunk short story – "General Ned" – that acts as a sort of prologue to my novel "MUNKi".

You can download the ebook from my website (https://garethsouthwell.com/books/general-ned/) by signing up to my newsletter. The newsletter isn't that frequent, and not spammy, so feel free to unsubscribe afterwards. Just wanted to share.
