Bonjour la France!
Mars Express, a French animated science-fiction film directed and co-written by Jérémie Périn, hits cinemas today.

Unfortunately, sci-fi films are rarely produced in France. This one is getting very good reviews, so we're backing it and buying our tickets!🔥

Mars Express will be released worldwide in 2024.

Scavengers Reign ended three days ago, but another original sci-fi show starts today! It's an adaptation of a Hugh Howey (Silo) novel.

Welcome to Beacon 23 (MGM+), where a man living in the 23rd Century works at a remote "lighthouse" in space that serves as a beacon to help passing ships.

Today marks the end of Scavengers Reign on Max.
(no, we don't know if there will be another season, but I have no confidence in Warner. And maybe it's just not necessary.)

This show has already joined my sci-fi pantheon, so I'm counting on the finale to confirm my enthusiasm. 🤞

Invaders from Mars (1953): Half sheet

The director, William Cameron Menzies, was production designer on Gone with the Wind (1939). The legendary producer David O. Selznick would even have invented the term “production designer” to recognize his crucial role.

He also directed Things to Come (1936), based on a novel by H.G. Wells.

The Truth is Out There: The X-Files started 30 years ago today with the aptly-named "Pilot"!

It's hard to believe that it's already been 30 years since I was hooked on what quickly became my favorite series of the 1990s (even though I gave up before the end of the first run).

And to think that the alien episodes were accompanied by so many fantastic, quality one-off stories. It was fascinating throughout my teenage years.

By the way, Tooms should be back in 2023.

I had no idea that the original model of the Enterprise was there. I was BLOWN AWAY.

She's the only star (trek) I've ever met in my life. She was restored since then.

The Creator (September 29, in theaters)
The next film from Gareth Edwards (Rogue One, Godzilla 2014, Monsters) promises to be magnificent.

With production design by James Clyne (ILM VFX art director on The Last Jedi), cinematography by Greig Fraser (Rogue One, Dune: Part 1, the Batman), music by Hans Zimmer...

All we can do now is keep our fingers crossed that the script will live up to expectations.
