Do any @wfpb people have experience for a whole day? Do you bulk up on anything before the fast? diets are generally low in calories, so I want to be sure the fasting is safe.

Here it is, just 24 hours old. I'm going to leave it in the incubator until I go to bed (about 9 hours from now), and then leave it out.

This new batch of greens has a warm spiciness that will become muted after refrigeration for a day. It's enough to last a while.

Wonderful, true story of mutual rescue.

Eric O'Gray and Peety.
He went to the shelter and asked for a dog like himself - obese, middle-aged, and depressed. And in walked Peety.

I liked the previous batch of this mix (https://leisureguy.ca/2023/09/04/chickpea-purple/) so much that I decided to reprise it at once (plus I have a lot of desi chickpeas and purple barley on hand).

A bigger batch than usual: 4 cups, not 3.

L: cooked desi chickpeas, seed coat in place; R: cooked purple barley, spread out to cool.

Depressing that "more than half of americans plan to get latest covid booster" is good news, but it's better than last round. Hopefully utterly idiotic partisan divide is starting to wane.

Just get your shots. Yeah even republicans. I fucking hate you but your corpses are fucking up our medical systems, stop it.

My favorite way to eat okra. Lightly fried, simmered until tender with a veggie broth and then at the last 2 minutes fry a couple of cloves of smashed garlic add, stir and squeeze 1/2 lemon for brightness.

@Beckysay That looks good, and I'll to try it that way. I've always cooked it the way my grandmother did: thinner slices (1/4-1/2 inch), breaded with cornmeal, and fried. But that looks very tasty.

A WaPo article describes how dieticians who are influencers take money to give bad info (e.g., WHO warnings about aspartame are "clickbait," a message paid for by American Beverage). Most who take the money to promote disinformation do not disclose that they are paid.

More and more I feel like a whole-food plant-based diet with good balance and diversity (the Daily Dozen) is the best bet.

@sister_ratched @vegancooking @wfpb The Cultured Carrot Cake in a Jar ferment is very tasty. I think it does require a starter because of the shortness of the ferment.

It's the first recipe in this post:

I have three 1.5-liter Weck cylindrical jars I use for fermenting veggies. As soon as two are empty I start a new ferment, figuring that the veggies in the third jar will carry me for the three-week fermentation period.

Here's what I'm thinking for the new one:

Mortality remains high among all racial and ethnic groups, but Black women, and American Indians and Alaska Natives at an increased risk.

I'm about to make this:

1/2 cup organic turmeric powder
1 cup water or a bit more
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

Mix ingredients to make a paste. The black pepper and oil help with absorption.
