I don’t normally enjoy children’s books, but this cosmic, Blakeian fantasy about race, freedom, creativity and spirituality is pretty mind blowing!

Very excited to have paper copies of my new favorite books, the Dragon Blood series! It's been a while since I bought any physical books but these were worth it. Even though I already had all the ebooks 😁

I've started E. M. Anderson's The Remarkable Retirement of Edna Fisher , and I already love Edna so much, I sneaked at the end, if she will be still around. The older I get, the less I like getting my heroes killed.

Empire in Black and Gold, by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

Excellent, as with all I've read by him, but I prefer SciFi over all, so not as amazing as his SciFi. Still, an interesting world with interesting characters. Lost magics, technology rising, and fascists on the horizon. A mixed band (young and old, different motivations and philosophies) sets off to save everyone from their blinders. I'll read the second one.

Looking for new additions to your TBR pile or gift list? LitHub's Natalie Zutter is recommending seven sci-fi and fantasy books that are published this month, including Chịkọdịlị Emelụmadụ's debut novel, "Dazzling," which is about two girls coming of age at a Nigerian boarding school, and Geoff Ryman's "Him," which muses on what would have happened if Jesus Christ was born a girl.

The thing I like so much about looking back over all the terrific books I read over the past year.

Today's DecRec is 'How Rory Thorne Destroyed the Multiverse', by K. Eason.

Imagine that the fairy tale fantasy land of fairies granting wishes at christenings, and magic and alchemy, moved forward in time and developed spaceships and interplanetary trade alliances. This is that. Quirky and fun, with a dry wit and terrific characters.

Starting my thread with this essay about my books & my cats. I created it a few years ago & keep it updated. It's whimsical, it makes me happy, and it's a good intro to my writing. I hope you enjoy it.

Note: All images in the blog post had alt-text last I checked. Book pages on my site should all have alt descriptions as well. Should. It's a work in progress.

In time of war and stress I turn again to T. Kingfisher for some soothing escapism.

How can a blue beard re-imagining full of body horror be relaxing? Leave that to T. Kingfisher.

You just know that Rhea will get all the support she needs to succeed.

Happy 2nd day of to those who celebrate! Today's recommendation is 'Even Though I Knew The End', by C. L. Polk. A thoughtful, wistful Chicago noir about a supernatural detective making deals with demons to sell (or redeem) her soul. Wonderful setting, clothes, mood, vibes; and a bittersweet approach to demon bargains that feels more real, somehow, than more traditional tales of this nature.

I've finished: Over the Woodward Wall, The up and under book 1.

While this is a middle grade novel, it is self aware, noting, making use of and subverting fairy tale tropes.

Both teaching the younger audience to note and subvert, and speaking to the more experienced reader.

It's not exactly breaking the fourth wall, it's more meta.

In this time of war and stress I find solace in lighter, hopeful novels, with happy endings.

My short story is live on Kindle Unlimited! I had so much fun writing this tale. We combined some of my favorite holiday things like a big performance with lights (courtesy of magic), a chorus singing, hot drinks, gift giving. And then fused it with a low stakes fantasy adventure and magical creatures. I hope you enjoy it! The Lady’s Crownbearer: A Cozy Winter Fantasy Adventure https://a.co/d/72ZHIwY @bookstadon
