Sure, but pricing was the main driver. There doesn’t seem to be readily available historical pricing data but even as late as 2018 the price of SMS in Europe seemed to be €0.07-0.11 . Which means it was even more expensive back in the early 2010s when WhatsApp and others were beginning to take off. For the US the price per message is and has been $0. I think the extra features were ultimately just a bonus when compared to being able to send messages for free. The fact the US still hasn’t switched is proof enough that it being a better experience is not enough to compel people to change off of the default. Money is a huge motivator.
I am trying out Fedora for multiple unrelated reasons (use RHEL at work, new config, it might be more optimized) and I noticed a number of concerning caveats, even in mind with the fact that I already use RHEL:...
I think Im starting to realize why these 10%> distros are where they are. Every time I go out to try something like OpenSUSE or Fedora it is always the same kind of issues. This 0 hour “what the hell, why cant I find a basic thing” questions that come up even well into being an advanced user.
The Debian and Arch sphere are well deserved to be having the largest share these days. I guess I made a mistake throwing off Debian every time just because I wanted something “cooler”.
Thats it. That is indeed THE main issue (or ballpark of issues) of Fedora. Like it should actually be needed to get fixed to get somewhere.
So can we talk mugs? I tend to make a half liter (~17 oz) of coffee in a French Press in the morning.

I was in one with all of the proper setup, fucking 10/10 CI pipelines, tests, the works. Someone just made stellar templates. 0 documentation tho and if you need to launch something in dev, get fucked. 0 task management, minimal meetings, barely a trello, and often you’d be like “okay what I do now?”.
Unterschiedlich.
Arab-Americans form a large population in the mid-west swing states. This is a known fact.
They are a requisite component for the coalition that allows the Democratic party to win presidential elections in the mid-west swing states. This is also a known fact.
It requires very little intuition to know that Arab-Americans will react negatively to a person who approves of and enables the genocide of a civilian population group that they identify with.
That is what happened. Support has dropped for Biden among Arab-Americans in the swing states to a single digit.
Every other typically Democratic voting demographic group could vote the same as they normally do, and Biden would lose due to loss of a key member of the swing state coalition.
Biden took that action, knowing it would likely blow up his Arab-American support so that he could give weapons and support to a group that has so far killed at least 5000 children. If you sort them in order of age, it takes six pages to get to a child older than 0. That was what he was willing to destroy his chances of getting re-elected for.
I’m not arguing that anyone should vote, or not vote for Biden. I’m saying that a win is now impossible due to his administrations actions regardless of what I, individually, do. If you want to be angry about Trump becoming a fucking dictator, be mad at the person who made it a certainty so he could help kill 5000 children.
The argument for Fahrenheit based on a perceived “0 to 100 scale” representing a percentage of heat can be critiqued as it misunderstands how temperature scales work. Temperature is not a percentage system; it’s a measure of thermal energy. The notion that 70 degrees Fahrenheit represents “70% heat” is not scientifically accurate as it implies that temperature is a linear scale capped at 100, which it is not. The Fahrenheit scale was actually based on arbitrary points: the freezing point of brine (0°F) and the average human body temperature (96°F at the time, which has since been adjusted to 98.6°F).
Celsius, on the other hand, is based on the freezing and boiling points of water at 0°C and 100°C respectively, under standard atmospheric conditions. This makes it a decimal and scientifically consistent system that is easier to relate to the states of water, an essential reference in science and daily life.
Comparing temperatures to percentages, like test scores, is a flawed analogy because temperature doesn’t have an upper limit “score” and is not designed to be read as a proportion. The scale from -18 to 38 in Celsius correlates directly with the physical properties of water, which is logical for scientific purposes.
Moreover, many argue that Celsius is more intuitive for everyday weather-related use outside of the U.S., as the scale is more granular for colder climates (where a one-degree change in Celsius is noticeable) and aligns well with the metric system, which is used globally for scientific measurement.
