I have a home server that I’m using and hosting files on it. I’m worried about it breaking and loosing access to the files. So what method do you use to backup everything?
ITT: lots of the usual paranoid overkill. If you do rsync with the –backup switch to a remote box or a VPS, that will cover all bases in the real world. The probability of losing anything is close to 0.
The more serious risk is discovering that something broke 3 weeks ago and the backups were not happening. So you need to make sure you are getting some kind of notification when the script completes successfully.
Does it have a webcam? It’s Mac so probably. Do they not see an issue here or is this a bug and not a feature? Sure they will do their best to protect it, but how many 0 days do we have to see before we realize that software isn’t the best security.
I don’t care about Karma, but to see a 0 after spending an hour on something means that it will not get seen (when I thought people would enjoy it). So in a way it invalidates my effort, and causes me to reevaluate what people would like to see (and, it seems my content may not be it).
i downloaded a torrent file, and for good practice started seeding overnight reaching more than the 1:1 ratio, should i just delete the file or is there a way to correctly stop seeding?, im using qbitorrent...
qbittorrent has an option to automatically stop torrents when they reach a certain threshold in the options menu. Set it to 0 and it will stop it once download is complete. github.com/…/How-to-disable-auto-seed
No. It's a battery not a capacitor. And no, you won't do home charging at 100s of kilowatts. That's totally pointless. Fast charging is for road trips, when you want short charging breaks. If you could charge a 100 KWh battery at a continuous 350 KW, you'd be done in less than 20 minutes from 0 to full. 350 is about the maximum we can do today and i don't see that growing much higher. Those huge charging speeds being thrown around in these articles are not practically relevant.

I’ve found this interview question at GeeksForGeeks and decided to actually code it in C++. The program currently prints the “value” of the horses (which is inaccessible by the coder so they can’t just look up who is number 1) and then proceeds to sort them and find the position of numbers 1,2 and 3 in a 5x5 matrix with...
I saw that problem a few weeks ago on a youtube thumbnail, it’s quite a nice problem and I think it gets even more interesting if you start to consider 5^3 or even 5^N horses. Cool that you actually coded a solution for it! I like the idea of hiding the actual values to prevent the developer from cheating :)
I haven’t really checked whether you program does exactly what I’d expect it to do since I had a hard time to understand what’s happening. I think a few comments here and there would help to understand what exactly is going on and maybe some better names would hep, too (example: number_matrix - what does it do? I see from the type that it is a 2d array of ints but what does it contain and how does it relate to horse_matrix). I still have some general recommendations for you how you could improve your code:
You seem to use OS specific random numbers, there is a C++ api for that nowadays (std::random_device / std::mt19937)
You call rand() % 26 and check against 0, in that case you reroll - you could instead directly calculate rand() % 25 + 1
As alternative to that manual rand() approach, you could look into std::shuffle
Take a look at sets (e.g. std::unordered_set), they have a containts() function that tells you whether a value is in the set or not. It’s not a big issue here but using vectors with std::count when all you want to do is check whether an element is in a set will not scale well
Consider using an enum instead of the char option. I’d go with something like enum class Option { kRow, kColumn };. If you want to stay with a char, I’d recommend not using a preprocessor directive for this (#define) but instead go with a regular constant (e.g. constexpr char kRow = ‘r’)
Consider using std::unique_ptr<MatrixPosition> instead of returning a raw pointer - that way you avoid memory leaks.
ignore_count and ignore_vector are only used in one function, so they don’t have to be members of the class. InitializeMatrix probably does not need to be a class in the first place.
Consider not using using namespace std. For small projects that’s not an issue for bigger ones you’ll find your namespace polluted.
Something that you might also not be aware of is that std::endl automatically flushes buffers and makes sure that your line is printed immediately. If you don’t need this you can just use n instead which is a little bit faster. But that’s more of a “fun fact” than a general recommendation.
Hope that helps and doesn’t sound too harsh, I know how code reviews can feel sometimes…
@nixCraft Actually some programming languages do start at 1, like Pascal and Ada.
I'm actually now curious if there are any one indexed processors. I've seen some extremely weird shit out of early mainframes, so it won't surprise me if such a thing existed, or didn't treat 0 as a valid memory location.
Specifically, wherever possible we use house price and rental indices that include the prices of owner-occupied properties and the imputed rents on these houses. Imputed rents estimate the rent that an owner-occupied house would earn on the rental market, typically by using rents of similar houses that are rented.
Sprich die “5-10%” bekommt man nur wenn man das Haus vermietet.

As someone who uses Both kbin and lemmy I started removing my upvotes on lemmy because I thought did it by accident until I realized with lemmy it does that automatically when you post something making the default score 1 but on kbin it is 0 because it does not do that. Still the idea of upvoting yourself to get a higher point score just seems silly.
I think it would be useful to change Reputation points into two words "Positive" if > 0 and "Negative" if < 0 and leave it at that.
There's really no need to keep the points because it only feeds stupid behavior like this.
It's gamification of discussions in a place that doesn't need it - we're not hungry for MAU stats, no one cares about MAU because we don't have venture capitalists funding the service.
Get rid of Reputation points.
Use upvote/downvotes solely for page/thread sorting purposes.
Just like Mastodon has done some design choices (like not allowing re-posting with quotes), I think the threadiverse needs to have similar thoughts about the posting culture we want to cultivate.

A small number per capita in a state would not invalidate the fact that people died because of mass shootings. The acceptable number of mass shootings is 0. The points I'm making are 1. that gun laws need to be stricter everywhere regardless of blue/red state, permit carry/not, or any other classification criteria, and 2. Fuck Ron DeSantis
Cali has made it easier for the state attorney to sue firearm industries. Something positive to celebrate in the way of gun control.
How did you get to that epoch? I haven't seen any images of this happening earlier than 2003, so the overflow must have happened late last year or early this year, and whatever week 0 is is some time around 2002/2003. That would also fit with your comment that they were introduced in the early 2000s.
Maybe they just didn't expect the trains to last 20 years 😄
I didnt use any speciall features on plex, but for me the only advantage of plex was the abbility to have all movies/tv shows in one folder. After switching to jellyfin and *arrs the folder structure is sorted so I have 0 reasons to consider plex again

You have to try hard to get negative karma in a sub
You can get -60 karma on conspiracy sub for saying that witches aren't real therefore John Podesta doesn't practice witchcraft.
Also having that negative karma feature on any political sub amounts to a total ban on all politically incorrect opinions. If most people on a political sub are for candidate A, you will never be allowed to share your support for candidate B. Making it wrongly seem like candidate B has 0% support and candidate A has 100% support.
