Thanks for sharing, it seems like my family’s next vacation will be in Slovenia again, which is just as beautiful and less expensive/hostile.

Vacations are expensive enough without the added tourist tax.

hollyberries,
@hollyberries@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

The article says €5 “apiece” which is €60 for the whole family unless I’m wrong in my understanding? Enough money flows into the local economy without tourists needing to be forced to “contribute” even further. Thus, hostile.

Venice has been pointing to longer-term tourists as key to its survival since they tend to spend more. Brugnaro said in no way does the new day-tripper contribution discourage tourism overall, but just seeks to manage it better.

We tend to stay in Italy for 2 or 3 weeks at a time, with our lodging being in between multiple destinations in the surrounding regions. Venice is off the table if it is an extra €60 per day. It would also cost significantly more in terms of travel if lodging was also in Venice. We would rather spend the money in Piran or Koper, so the “contribution” is doing its job in managing.

For what its worth, even though we are Dutch, we refuse to visit Amsterdam for the same reason and instead stay in the surrounding cities. A tourist tax is simply a local government giving up on finding real solutions and instead is hoping to price people out of visiting. If Venetians are really worried about sinking, they can ask us for help. We have a bit of experience with keeping the sea away 😅

THIS. Painting nails is like painting anything else - prep is 90% of the work. Note: I do not use a nail buffer at all until the end. I find that the surface becomes too smooth for polish to stick to, so I use it only for a finishing touch.

Here’s my process:

 1. Clean hands and nails well with a bar soap that doesn’t have moisturiser. Cheap brands are best and make things literally squeak.
 2. Prep the nail bed with a nailpolish remover that doesn’t have moisturiser. Bonus points if non scented, as perfumes contain oils.
 3. Dry them off well with a paper towel.
 4. Paint one semi heavy layer of base coat.
 5. Paint two medium layers of polish.
 6. Paint one thin layer of top coat, wait for it to dry fully and clean up any mistakes.
 7. Use the nail buffer to smooth out any imperfections.
 8. Paint a normal layer of high gloss clear coat.

My usual products:

KIKO strengthening base coat
essie polish
essie top coat
Rimmel 60 second super shine top coat

My black polish is quite cute, its essie Liquorice

EDIT: I finish with essie cuticle oil after everything has completely dried and hardened.

Also, another note: As stated above, capping the nail helps prevent chipping from the tips of the nails

EDIT 2: formatting

I saw something on the Memmy community a while back about imgur uploading being against the imgur TOS.

Specifically this under “Stuff not to do”

Also, don’t use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network.

That may have something to do with it.

hollyberries,
@hollyberries@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

You’re welcome! I think it is a fairly new TOS update that came when they purged the porn and anonymous uploads.

You are just seeing more posts, which is skewing your perception.

I suggest you become familiar with blocking people, words/phrases, and communities. If you use a third party app you can even block entire instances. In your settings you can also block bot accounts. Blocking the news bots cleaned up my feed and I mainly browse new posts on All.

I’ve been toying with the idea of writing a dead man’s switch in the form of a telegram bot that monitors my profile for automatic account deletion, if thats even possible. I’d have it send my partner an email with everything she needs to get into bitwarden and to cash out hidden assets. Having it trigger a mass deletion instead would fit your use case.

I’m working on too many at once, mainly because I have too many things I need to finish. My goal is a 100% rust stack.

Right now my bigger project is a soft fork of rgit to add some features that I personally want that are outside of the scope of the original. The task at the moment is connecting to git http-backend to serve clones via HTTPS. My goal for that project is ala-carte feature patches that anyone can cherry pick and build their own.

I havent pushed my changes yet, too unstable.

git.holly.sh is everything I have that I have cleaned up and am willing to share. That also runs the working copy of sparkle-git.

1&2 - Can be solved by your DE and disabling notifications altogether with a toggle. XFCE4 panel has a notifications plugin that I have switched to DND when installing the system and haven’t turned it off since. It’s been 3 years :)
3- I can’t comment on as I use #4. When it works, it works. When a bad update is pushed, it really doesn’t work
4 - Garuda

I like the fact that on MX F4 button is associated with xfce4-terminal --drop-down. Also, is there a better ways to swtich tabs rather than press on the icon or Alt+Tab?

I can’t comment specifically on –drop-down as those annoy the heck out of me. How to demonstrate to people the importance of privacy by showing the data collected about them?

I wish to convince my friends and family to avoid using privacy-invading ad-based services and apps. Seeing people discuss how much data these companies collect off of us, I want to know if there is a way you could get a sample of that data by yourself and show it to them for them to realize the gravity of the situation...

hollyberries,
@hollyberries@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I personally like to show how easy it can be to cyberstalk someone.

I pulled up a friend’s LinkedIn and pasted their bio text into Google line-by-line until I got a trail to a very old LiveJournal which had links to a NSFW Tumblr (before the purge). What led me there was a phrase that they used frequently in conversation and on the bio. It was their “bone apple tea” moment that made it VERY easy to pin down. I also followed the username trail to some fanart on DeviantArt, and a snapshot of an old website on archive.org.

I present that, then tell them if I can build a profile like this with less than an hour’s work, imagine what data processors can do with the amount of data harvested from voluntarily accepting an “invasion” policy, especially if they (the data processors) are able to automatically match speech patterns to users!

That moment of anger and confusion when you install a fresh Firefox and type in “ublock origin” in the address bar and get violated by Google’s consent popup. The frustration with yourself because you should’ve known better as you go to addons.mozilla.org and type your query in yet another search box, setup uBlock Origin, block 3rd party and resist fingerprint, and no single website will ever work correctly again. trauma dumping___ - “man up” - “quit being a pussy” - “you really want something to cry about?” - “go get me the board of education” (the board was a paddle with slots cut into it) - “i didn’t bring you into this world but i sure will take you out of it” - “your own mother didn’t give a damn about you, what makes you think i do?” that last one hurt a whole lot more than the board

The funny thing is, the p***y thing is what cracked my egg. I was talking about a time I got bullied, which got derailed to some issues at home, and that word came up a lot and from there it was a big “oh shit” moment a couple days later when the information finally processed lol

Any rss reader which aggregates feeds

On Thunderbird for example, there’s no way to aggregate feeds from different places, into just one common view. I’m looking for aggregating all feeds from different places into a common view, where I can globally just keep what I want to read from everywhere and remove what I’m not interested on....

I can’t troubleshoot your exact issue, as you seem to not see what is happening in the background and are relying solely on error pages. We need to get to the container logs.

So, I removed all of the containers, deleted the data and database folders, re-made the folders, and re-deployed everything. Now NOTHING works and I can’t get nextcloud to re-do its initial setup.

Did you remove the old containers and volumes?

Clean up unused containers, networks, images, and volumes

docker container prune
docker network prune
docker image prune

DANGER ZONE LOSS OF DATA IF YOU DONT HAVE BACKUPS

docker volume prune

That will give you a clean environment to start over with your compose files.

If youre still having issues, inspect the live container logs to find the errors.

docker container logs --follow

Then post the errors.

SoftMaker OnlyOffice is a good option. I use it, and it works with everything I’ve thrown at it, including paid templates from designers. I would say the compatibility is 100% in my own experience. There is a trial available if you want to take a test drive before you set sail ;)

Shower thought(?) : some labels are less helpful.

Since starting my questioning journey, I feel like some of sexual orientation labels make less sense. I like girls (a lot apparently). I have always liked girls. Therefore as amab I am straight, I realize one day in the future “fuck it, I’m transitioning” and then I’m not longer straight. It honestly would make a lot...

hollyberries,
@hollyberries@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I 100% agree with this. I actually went to check to see if I made an alt one night because this is like reading my own thoughts lmao I’m a bit wasted atm so I hope this makes a bunch of sense. These labels are so frustrating to me.

I’m hung up on my own label because there are so many that I end up self-excluding. AMAB. Married to a woman for 10 years. I find both sexes physically attractive. Have slept with both, vagina is 100% for me, and penis 100% isn’t. If I were single, an effeminate trans man would also make my knees weak.

I came out as nonbinary last year, almost exactly one year ago and have been 100% in girl mode for 9 months now. I own nothing male anymore. By all definitions, I’m trans and a raging lesbian. Except I’m not on HRT, and have zero desire to be. I have body dysphoria, yes. It is mostly remedied with clothes, makeup, and hopefully hair removal. Most of my “I wish I looked like her” stems from the fact that I’m not petite, have wide shoulders, and feel like my jaw line is too sharp.

So what is that? A cross dresser? I feel like thats still a slur. I’ve been calling it Holly. AKA, me. Just plain Holly. That’s the name everyone besides family knows me as now. I still don’t feel like I belong in any of the labels. I just don’t feel like I am trans, or even nonbinary. Just Holly.

Labels are fucking hard, man. :(

hollyberries,
@hollyberries@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

“you don’t know how you feel, don’t try to feel a label.”

My wife has been saying the exact same thing for months. It is incredibly difficult to change your thinking process like that and I’m still not there. Kudos to you for getting there! I think with enough therapy I’ll get there too lol

I’m in my late 30s so our age difference isn’t too great. These feelings came out of nowhere and are SO confusing.

"The Moment", a lot of oversharing, and possibly relevant trauma dumping (sorry)My realisation came when I was in between therapy sessions and trying to unpack childhood trauma. I was quite the angry person, and my therapist said “let’s try a softer approach” and the word “soft” triggered me like milk coming to a boil. I couldn’t figure out why. A few days later I was cleaning and “processing” and picked up my wife’s skirt and put it on my lap because it looked cute (a little black lace and tulle one) and the elation I felt was off the charts. I felt soo happy, and then like most of my happy moments at the time, it was fleeting. I had to break the news and it was an extremely rough time. Back in therapy, most of the events that I could remember were abusive, but couldn’t figure out why until after that day. Almost all of them were because I would be playing with my sisters’ dolls, “mother’s” makeup, being affectionate and telling family members that I loved them, wanting to wear colourful clothes (it was the 90s for pete’s sake), I was too SOFT, and things like that so we concluded that it was beaten out of me. Now I wonder how I would be if I had a supportive and nurturing family?

Tangent over. Here I am inching closer to my 40s with a lot of unresolved teenage angst, more questions, confusion, and everything in between and beyond. I didn’t understand. There were SO MANY SIGNS that I (and everyone else apparently) ignored/were blind to. It’s a lot of picking up the pieces, and it does get better as time goes on. At least I think it does. As I said last night, labelling is still the biggest issue. I never felt like I fit in anywhere, and now I feel like I fit in here on blahaj.zone. I ran away from Mastodon last year because I encountered a bigot (from our own community, no less) that made me feel like absolute dog shit for not feeling dysphoric enough to want HRT. I’m back on there now, and have been since I came to Lemmy, but I may move that over to the main blahaj.zone since I post more about gender than tech.

I feel you on the body stuff too. Like, I want to present more femme, I have big-ass shoulders for guys even. I am also one of the hairiest people I’ve ever seen in my life, like literally continuously head to toe, front and back. How do I not look like “creep in a dress”?

The hhaaaairr!!! I have this cluster of hairs on the inner corner of my mouth that grows back every 3 days. THREE. I was told that waxing and plucking was supposed to make it last longer. It aaabsolutely does not! I feel like we’ve been lied to lmao it makes me not want to even attempt laser removal because of how expensive the treatments can be, for what may be little personal gain. My 5:00 shadow starts less than an hour after shaving and can definitely relate.

If you don’t mind, I have a tip to help with some of your shoulder dysphoria. Pad your hips if you can. This video by Bernadette Banner helped me understand quite a bit on how to style for the body I have. I lost a lot of weight in the past few years, and I managed to lose weight everywhere except for my chest and hips. The rest is loose skin, and I have a bit of a natural “ratio” going that my wife is jealous of if I use a shaper and boob tape lol… I still hate my shoulders and body overall because long things become short things, but padding the hips definitely helps with the silhouette image if you want to give that a try. A-line skirts and dresses are my favourite kind, as they taper on the way down and then poof back out after the waist. Perfect for our shapes!

“Creep in a dress”… ugh. I hate those thoughts, and they are frequent. I wear high waisted skinny jeans and leggings out in public with a blazer, hoodie, or t-shirt most of the time because of those thoughts. They rule my life. I buy dresses in public, drape them over myself to check fit, buy them, and scurry home to take pics for my wife and friends so that they can tell me I’m pretty 💀 It’s not healthy and I cannot wait for the general public to not give a shit about what I wear.

Also, as I understand to idea of “trans”, it can be as broad as not being 100% inline with gender/body ideas, non binary could be considered under the umbrella of trans.

I agree. Nonbinary could and should fall under that umbrella. Some nonbinary people undergo HRT to conform to their dominant side so it absolutely should apply. :)

This has gotten quite a bit long, its a passionate subject 😂

I use Duplicati connected to Storj with data volumes that incrementally get backed up once per month. My files don’t change very often, so monthly is a good balance. Not counting my Jellyfin library, those backups are around 1 TB. With the Jellyfin library, almost 15 TB.

Earlier this year, I recovered from a 100% data loss scenario, as I didn’t (and still don’t) have space for physical backups. I have a 25 TB allowance, so my actual cost was €0. If I had to pay, it would have been under €1.

hollyberries, (edited )
@hollyberries@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Definitely 25 TB. I’ve used the service for a long time, since before they accepted credit cards. I attached my credit card one day and got a bump to 25 TB. Since that happened, I pay basically nothing and my account is still 100% storj token funded.

Edit: I dug up screenshots I sent someone recently

hollyberries,
@hollyberries@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

That’s fair. I’m 100% onboard the decentralisation train, and do my hardest to practice what I preach. In the event that the service does go bust, I can make a backup on a different S3 compatible service immediately as long as my working copy is intact. The likelihood of the backup service AND the working copy dying at the exact same time would be my cue to take up knitting.
